I managed to weld it so you could possibly use it without breaking your computer.

Copy .craft file into your savegame. Copy UbioWeld Folder into your GameData folder (it contains the welded parts)

I believe two or three. Main problem was lag buildup in the SPH. When you load the craft it's okay, but it gets worse the money you tinker around. Had to restart the game ever 15 min or so.

Update: With the welding mod I got the part count down to 564. Framerate ranges from 4 to 9 at the moment. Maybe I can improve that a little... not sure how far though.

Made a welded version and put it in the original post. With 570 parts instead of >1700 it's actually usable.

This is abolutely amazing. Personally I think the escape pods are the best bit. I'd never thought of using ion powered escape pods. Are they good enough to de-orbit the pods to Kerbin?

No those pods are designed to get stranded Kerbals from anywhere in the solar system back to Kerbin orbit where they would be picked up by a rescue mission. I would not advise trying to land one of these things. Although... you could attach a chute and it would probably land safely.
