Cannot run on laptop dedicated graphics (Nvidia=

Recommended Posts

First of all, hi everyone! Congratulations for the wonderful community :)

As in the title, there's no way I'm able to make KSP run on the dedicated NVIDIA GT 750M of my laptop. It always run on the integrated intel graphics, as you can see from the log:

Kerbal Space Program - 0.90.0.705 (WindowsPlayer) BETA

OS: Windows 8.1 (6.3.9600) 64bit

CPU: Intel® Core i5-3337U CPU @ 1.80GHz (4)

RAM: 8076

GPU: Intel® HD Graphics 4000 (3072MB)

SM: 30 (Direct3D 9.0c [nvumdshim.dll 9.18.13.4752])

RT Formats: ARGB32, Depth, ARGBHalf, RGB565, Default, DefaultHDR, ARGBFloat, RGFloat, RGHalf, RFloat, RHalf, R8

I've already tried the following:

-Force to use dedicated graphics through the Nvidia control panel

-Append -adapter x to KSP.exe (tried with x=0,1,2)

-Reinstall graphic drivers

-Reboot

-Wait for the full moon

None of the above worked.

Any ideas?

Thanks

For my Nvidia / Intel combo, I set KSP to use the Nvidia card through the Nvidia experience control panel. There is a place to add programs under the 3D options. I'm also able to set a lot of the advanced settings in there.

Cheers,

Update: I tried the -force-opengl option and to my surprise the nvidia GPU is being used!! The game runs considerably smoother this way, even if some opengl related glitches are present.

I think I can just stick with that, although I would like to understand why with directx it doesn't work. I even tried to force dx11, but again it used the integrated graphics. Should I try to reinstall directx maybe??

Thanks!

Marco

This suggests your driver is supporting OpenGL but not DirectX, at least not correctly, your Dxdiag output would show exactly what driver you have and if all DirectX components are installed, you could also try "-force-d3d11" as well, if you are using an OEM driver supplied with your laptop it may be missing DirctX9.

The DirectX redistributable can be found here.

I installed directx, but nothing changed. As i said before i tried to force dx11 but the integrated graphics is being used (and the game crashes pretty soon after loading)

I think I will stick with opengl for the moment, is working pretty well for me after all, I even managed to make the AA work. I'll look back into this problem when 1.0 will be released.

Thank you all for the support!
