I still don't get how experience works. If I plant a flag on the Mun, Jeb should gain 5 XP, not just 2, as he got after recovering on Kerbin. Is it right? Could someone explain?

You only get the experience for the highest scoring event on any given body. One event per body, that's it.

You could look at it this way. Getting to orbit of the Mun gives you experience. When you land and plant a flag, that is a higher scoring event, so the getting orbit experience is removed and the plant a flag experience is added.

So lets break that down. You enter the Mun's spehere of influence +1 point. You establish orbit -1 point +2 points. You land -2 points + 5 points. Plant a flag is the same as landing in this case, so it would be -5 points +5 points, but that is just for the Mun. Total maximum for the Mun... 5 points.

However, if I now go to Minmus, that's a different body so it's a different counter.

How many XP did Jeb have before this, and for what? And had he ever been anywhere near Mun before, on a previous mission?

I don't remember, a bit more than level 1, but i did a mun fly-by and a complete orbit in two different mission before the landing, in order to gain more exp as possibile. But now i think that also the orbit gave me only 1 XP instead of 2 (don't remember about the fly-by).

Do you know how to check the amount and the history of experience of a kerbal? I didn't find them in the save file, only their activities.

You can sere the log, including XP earned by right-clicking the Kerbal in the astronaut complex.

The idea behind the second quote doesn't work. There is a maximum xp value available for any body, and the smaller tasks leading up to a flag planting simply take from the total for flag planting.

In this case, the wiki tells me that a Munar orbit is worth 3xp, leaving just 2xp available for a later flag planting.

If all the biggest missions Jeb has done at different bodies so far are, orbit at Kerbin, and Mun flag planting then he should be just short of level 2.

You can't get more in later missions. If Jeb already had 3 points for the Mun, you only can get 2 more. It's 5 max points per Kerbal forever, not per mission. Simply put, you can't fully level a Kerbal by returning to the same body over and over again.

Ok, now I get it. It's not the biggest achievement in the mission, it's the biggest achievement for each celestial body that really counts. I had simply misunderstood the wiki guide.
