togfox
The archives has a locked thread on space janitor and other craft that can capture and return capsules but has anyone used mods to capture or deorbit large fuel tanks and booster/lifter stages? With so many parts out now it\'s hard to keep up. Thx
sal_vager
Hi togfox, If you don\'t mind using mods I\'d suggest grabbing Tosh\'s laser or Yorik\'s particle cannon and blasting that debris out of the sky, as grabbing stuff is a lot of work when you have a lot of debris to deal with.Laser : http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/index.php?topic=6452.0Cannon : http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/index.php?topic=8117.0The laser is probably your best bet, as it will actually overheat and destroy stuff, whereas the cannon seems to just knock things around with tremendous force. vexx32
Aye, you could do that, but if it\'s a serious problem, then I suggest you simply use \'[\' and \']\' to cycle through the debris and just 'end flight' for each. Then, I suggest you do a bit of redesigning to ensure as little as possible debris actually remains intact after leaving your ship (have them fall back to Kerbin or crash into the Mun and such). You can simply remove all vessels marked with this and you can clear your space. As always, be sure to back up your persistent.sfs file before you perform any maintenance on it. togfox
I\'m amazed. This sandbox continue\'s to amaze me. Mech Jeb to ascend, Rincomp to rendezous with junk, lasers to zap target, mech jeb to auto land at the click of a button. Thanks for the suggestions!! sal_vager
This just occurred to me, you could use the Bigtrack\'s cuttlefish lander with mechjeb to grab debris and deorbit it, when the parachute structure is removed there is a lot of room inside.Take a look : http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/index.php?topic=9404.0It\'s a ready made satellite grabber, or try the Damned robotics claw here : http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/index.php?topic=10662.0If you go on a debris hunting mission don\'t forget to take screenshots and show us
togfox
Just for you. http://youtu.be/bMcKIUKEkC4In an early mission I flew a condemned/unmanned prob to the mun to deploy a powersat in mun orbit. That was successful but I didn\'t have enough fuel to return to Kerbin. If I\'d thought about it harder, I should have crashed the unmanned craft into the Mun but I didn\'t, so this thing was on a 10 milllion meter ellipical orbit causing all sorts of space traffic problems.Using RINCOMP I got my laser de-orbiter within 100m of the craft - this took me all night, really, as the mun kept circling around and upsetting my perfectly aligned orbits. The above shot is from two different angles. You\'ll see I\'m really quite close and usually I just zap them at 2000m and be done with it.No sound - sorry - game didn\'t have any and I didn\'t insert sounds! Sorry about the utube quality as well. Very enjoyable - lasering stuff - and effect. Thanks Salv! 8)
Richy teh space man
I\'m gonna leave most of my junk floating up there in case we get the option to salvage and sell them in future or somethingI just hope all of my launches manage to miss all the stuff floating up there in the mean time
sal_vager
Cool video togfox, if you have to clean up, you might as well have a blast doing it
