Please, for the love of god, fix this!

Recommended Posts

I will try and say this as calmly as I can.

In the SPH, there are 2 modes for symmetry and the radial symmetry can seriously just get removed. All it does it infect a build of mine and screw it up and .... me off.

For example: I will be building a plane and all of a sudden it goes from mirrored to radial and I can't switch it back, it just keeps going from mirror to radial.

This single bug/"feature" is really getting on my nerves and making building things almost impossible without killing myself.

Please someone, somehow, try and tell SQUAD to fix this.

Hurry, before I rip my eyes out.;.;;.;;.;;.;;.;

What if instead of removing it, we made a "Lock Symmetry" button, when it's on, symmetry can't be changed?Sound better than removing it.

I like this idea. Switching between symmetry modes was badly needed, so taking it away would be a step backwards.

Both radial and mirror symmetry are useful in both the VAB and SPH. Switching between them is just a matter of hitting the 'r' key. Perhaps symmetry inheritance is causing you grief: if a parent part got attached with radial symmetry by accident, new child parts will also start in radial, no matter what mode you set the editor to before attaching them. It's a matter of finding out what mode the parent part is in and swapping it to mirror.

Parts inherit the symmetry of their parent, if you need to avoid a symmetry mode then you need to ensure you do not use that mode for a parent part.

That effectively "locks" the mode.

Single placement avoids the issue and subsequent parts can be placed in radial or mirror mode.

I've been having the same problem, and it has nothing to do with "symmetry inheritance". I know this because with the plane I'm working on, I haven't used radial symmetry once.

I can't believe a bug this game-breaking hasn't been addressed yet. I can't build a spaceplane that requires fuel lines because every time I try to attach a fuel line, the symmetry switches to radial!

Actually, I will venture a guess that it is symmetry inheritance. Even if you never use radial symmetry in the SPH, it still defaults to radial symmetry when placing singular parts. So singular parts, under certian circumstances, will transfer their radial symmetry attribute to children parts. This can happen, even if you have never used radial symmetry, even if it isn't selected.

There is no specific stock workaround for this, other than being aware and careful how you build. Even that won't prevent it all the time.

If you aren't opposed to add-ons, there's a fix for this in my stock bug fixes (SymmetryActionFix). It has several fixes for symmetry bugs, including defaulting to mirror symmetry in the SPH, and mirror symmetry in the VAB for singular parts.

Cheers,

-Claw
