I Remember... (A Thread for Early KSP Nostalgia)

Specifically, I remember having to strut the crap out of my designs, including "stitching" the tanks, and still having the Mainsails slip around in circles under whatever they were attached to.

Pic related: this graph I've made a year and a half ago.

Ah yeah, the Great Strengthening of 0.23.5. The old way made for some funny failures at times but it's much better not having half of your part count be struts.

I agree with you there. I remember using so many struts that they would stop rendering and rockets would fall apart because the strut bars wouldn't spawn in on the launchpad.

Struts...oh god the struts....Putting a rocket of any appreciable mass on the Launch pad was a nightmare. It felt like building rockets out of blunt wooden blocks and trying to hold them together with strings held down by scotch tape. You really needed a lot of strings and tape. I often thought back to my childhood...my lego space shuttle model held together better...LINCOLN LOGS would have been easier to build rockets with!

A better rocket than most of early designs in ksp...

And I remember people on the forums COMPLAINING about the strengthening...it was going to make KSP too easy, lol.

Struts...oh god the struts....

I have said that exact sentence many, many times. ;)

Ah, yes, the old 1.25 meter SAS... you shall be missed:

Yeah, I was sort-of hoping they would down-size the other one.

The one that got shrunken was the one that I liked using as end-caps on 1.25m tanks, due to the red light on it.

I've only been playing for a year, but the main thing I remember that I'm SO VERY GLAD THEY FIXED was the joint-strength stuff several updates ago.

Specifically, I remember having to strut the crap out of my designs, including "stitching" the tanks, and still having the Mainsails slip around in circles under whatever they were attached to. I'm nostalgic about that in the way people reminisce about root canals. :)

Yes, remember that the pretty standard design with two orange tanks with an pancake at bottom needed stitching.

How telescoping during end of gravity turn and circulation burn was an common issue, the high TWR of the almost empty booster caused the core stage to collapse and the mainsail continued trough the craft.
