  1. The date is February 20, 1962. NASA is about to launch the first American into orbit, John Glenn. In this mission you will be recreating the Mercury-Atlas 6 flight, which brought John Glenn into orbit and back. It includes some realism, with some things that actually happened during the 3-orbit mission. Operated by NASA as part of Project Mercury, it was the fifth human spaceflight, preceded by Soviet orbital flights Vostok 1 and 2 and American sub-orbital flights Mercury-Redstone 3 and 4. I think I did a pretty good job at recreating the mission using the mission builder, and I hope you will enjoy playing it! Below are some images from the mission: Mercury-Atlas 6 on the launch pad, with the Friendship 7 capsule. Shortly after launch, when you are told to start pitching and what orbit you need to get into. Separation of the Atlas booster engines. Shortly after you get into orbit, and have to decouple from the Atlas. Image of Friendship 7 in Orbit. A problem happens during the beginning of Orbit 2 (like the real mission). The Retro-burn after 3 orbits. Re-entry. About to splashdown, with the KSC in the distance. Also, most of the mission parts are automated (like when you launch, fire retros, separate from Atlas, etc.). So just do what Gene tells you to in the Mission and if anyone finds problems, I will make updates that will fix them. Enjoy! Download Links: KerbalX, Mediafire, Steam Workshop
  2. Godspeed John Glenn. This is my first time submitting a challenge but I felt that this would be a great way to honor a great man. The challenge is this, launch a one manned capsule into Kerbal orbit using a launch vehicle with restrictions inspired by the Atlas that John Glenn used in Mercury. 1. All of the capsule's liquid fuel engines must ignite on the ground. 2. The capsule needs to complete orbit and de-orbit with solid rockets 3. The capsule must sit atop a liquid fueled rocket that is not separated into verticle stages and must have extra engines that stage off during ascent (basically no verticle staging, but the rocket must have a "half stage" with one big tank and staged off engines like an Atlas). 4. Capsule must return to Kerbin safely and splash down. Screw scoring. Let's just honor John Glenn. If you honored Glenn you go on the board. Tributes thus far (in no particular order). 1. @tg626 2. @Jestersage 3. @Rhomphaia 4. @JacobJHC 5. @Chiron0224 6. @illectro <- Scott didn't respond directly to this challenge but I added him to the board of tributes for having the same idea and doing it on his channel here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9OQOgMg80s No cheaty mods obviously and no Bluedog (you can't just build an actual atlas). Let me know if I need to tweak this challenge at all. I don't imagine it will be all that difficult for many of you, I'm mostly just doing this as a community salute of sorts EDIT: finally did my submission https://imgur.com/gallery/LEiBn
  3. I was sad when I heard that he had died, so I made a tribute to him in KSP. I know it isn't completely accurate of perfect, but I though that if I died, I wouldn't care how I was honored so I went ahead with the mission. This is not meant to be anything except respectful. 4. A few days ago the American Astronaut John Glenn passed away, leaving behind a legacy of space travel and bravery. After I saw a challenge to build the Friendship 7 in KSP, I couldn't resist. Since I know some people want to see these types of craft in KSP, I figured I show it to everyone on the forum who wants to see it. Disclaimer: this craft is not 100% accurate Craft Download: https://kerbalx.com/JacobJHC/John-Glenns-Rocket Craft info Mass:52.96t Cost:43,571 Crew:1 Parts: 153 Tell me what you think about it below. I greatly enjoy constructive feedback.
