KSP does not show any menu content

Recommended Posts

Hi, I just bought KSP (Steam), but unfortunately it does not fully working for me: In no single menu, any text, boxes, buttons ... is shown:

8ziuuayo7

I've read about a possible fix for my Problem, so I've installed the Microsoft True Type Fonts ( apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer) and it seems like the OS (Ubuntu 16.04) is recognizing  them (able to use them in libre office).

But again - same problem: no content is shown. Don't know what to do next, hope you guys can help me.

Additional System information:

OS: Ubuntu 16.04 - Xenial Xerus 64Bit

CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-3317U CPU @ 1.70GHz × 4

GPU: GeForce GT 635M / Intel HD Graphics 4000 - Ivy Bridge

KSP-Version: 1.1.0.1230 (Steam)

Hi @votec, there are a few workarounds for this, as you have an Nvidia card you will need to force KSP to use it in the nvidia control panel

Another option is to start KSP using the -force-glcore Unity engine command line argument.

You can do this from the terminal with ~/pathToYourKSPinstall/KSP.x86_64 -force-glcore

Another workaround is to manually set your resolution in your settings.cfg to 1 pixel lower than you are using, for example 1023x767 for a 1024x768 monitor.

Or keep testing lower resolutions until one works.

As to why this is happening, it seems the open source drivers of all cards are not compatible with the Unity5 stencilling at this time.

KSP is probably using your Intel, which is why you see this issue.

Great @sal_vager!

You saved the day on long business trips. Lowering the resolution by 1px did the job with KSP 1.1.3 on my Intel i5-3230m + int. graphic (Manjaro 16.06 KDE 64bit).

Cheers!
