Hot Kerbals, bug or feature?

I noticed this in 1.1.1 and it's still the case in 1.1.2; Kerbals getting out of MkI inline pods (only pod I've been able to make the happen with) have a temperature bar showing that they're close to overheating.

This doesn't work so well with lander type craft as the pods are generally protected by something and if not they just explode, but with a spaceplane on a gliding re-entry you can heat the MkI inline up pretty well.  And on landing when you get the pilot out they will be almost on fire! Is this intentional? Are Kerbals supposed to be being slowly roasted in spaceplanes?
There is also something about the Mk1 inline and it's heating that seems odd.  Even while the rest of the plane has cooled down (or at least no longer showing temp bars on any parts) it still shows that's the MkI inline is hot.

In the first pic, after re-entry and dropping the speed to about 1000m/s I then went into a steep dive, note the only part with temp bars is the command pod.  Its still hot after landing and the last pic shows Jeb after getting out with his temp bar right into the red.

Also, he's hotter than the command pod. Having them heat up a bit makes sense, but this looks too much.  So.... bug or feature?
I'm fairly sure that the way the Mk1 inline shows more heat than the rest of the craft is a bug.

That bar is a percentage of max temperature, which would mean that Jeb's max temperature is lower than the cockpit's. I think.

Edit:

I just realized you likely know what it means. I think it's just a bug then.

I think Jeb just has a dangerously-high fever. He'll be fine, but that Mk1 Inline Cockpit may need quarantining until the contagious fever-causer can be obliterated.

I still think that we should be warned just before doing an EVA, if the resulting suit temperature will kill the kerbal. I've never tried to make it happen, but I've done what the OP did, and did an EVA from a capsule just after reentry -- and had an instant red heat bar on Jeb. Scared me silly! But I can easily land a pod that's glowing red and try to EVA from it and see what happens.
