  1. Reported Version: v0.2.1 (latest) | Mods: none | Can replicate without mods? Yes
    OS: Windows 10 Home | CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7900X | GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 3090 | RAM64

    Severity: medium

    Frequency: high

System Specs: Cpu: AMD Ryzen 9 7900X, Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 3090, RAM: 64 Gb, OS: Windows 10 Home

Description: Whenever decoupling a part from a rocket, every strut on the decoupled part will break regardless of whether it spanned the broken connection and needed to break for the decouple to take effect. This is especially frustrating with large, composite vehicles where multiple functioning subassemblies need to decouple from the core vehicle. The type of decoupler doesn't seem to matter, even docking ports have this issue. I have not tested the issue when breaking a connection that was not created by docking two craft together. The "Core" of the vehicle seems to be determined by whatever part was considered to be the assembly anchor when it launched.

The issue only seems to happen ~90% of the time. It seems to be completely random, but occasionally struts will remain intact as they should. Larger vehicles with more struts seem more marginally likely to have this issue than smaller ones.

    Reproduction steps:

    1. Design and launch a simple craft with struts on an outer stage.
    2. Decouple the outer stage. All of the struts attached to that stage will likely break regardless of whether it makes sense for them to do so.
    3.  ^If the struts did not break during step 2, revert to launch and repeat until they do.

In real life the engineer either nods silently and resigns himself to his 2 hours nevermind what the captain said, or argues with him.

Yep. That's how it is sometimes. "Sure, boss. Whatever you say," Then turn around and do something that actually makes sense.

  3. So, I haven't been on this forum in a while. I burned out on KSP a few years ago, and since I was starting college I had other priorities.

However, a few months ago I officially graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Systems Engineering, and in part I have this game to thank for inspiring me to pursue this path. Unfortunately, with current events the Aerospace industry has taken a bit of a hit, so I'm still looking for a job (By the way, does anyone here happens to be looking to hire a structural FEA or Systems engineer in the Aerospace field?). Today though, I happened across this gem of a job posting:

    Quote

Flight Dynamics Analyst - Human Landing System (HLS)

    ...

    ...

...Preferred candidates will also have experience and/or working knowledge with:

    • Aerospace simulation tools such as OTIS, POST, TAOS, Copernicus, GMAT, or Systems Tool Kit
    • Demonstrate an understanding of multi-body dynamics simulations tools such as TREETOPS, ADAMS, or DSENDS
    • Have a passion for KSP

To my knowledge, KSP can only mean one thing, and although they're asking for someone with a lot more experience, that alone has convinced me to put in an application. So, wish me luck!

@Vaporo I haven't had much chance to play with that excel thing, other than to learn that Microsoft™'s free excel viewer only does exactly that, and being Microsoft™, they want certain favored parts of my anatomy for the privilege of clogging up my hard drives with Office®.  I'll have to see if OpenOffice is still around...

If you don't have Office, then don't bother. The "translator" works using VBA, which is a language that runs almost exclusively as part of Office, plus it references some Excel-exclusive properties. It won't work in any other program. However, VBA is very similar to JavaScript, which is relatively portable... Hmmmmm. maybeeeee... (Gears start turning inside head).

IIRC, an XLSM is just an Excel spreadsheet with macros, since @Vaporo makes references to VBA.

I could be off by a mile an order of magnitude, though.

(also, Book the Third is coming along nicely. Yes, I've read it, even though I haven't read the past two in their entirety. So sue me. :P)

Yeah, an xlsm file is just an Excel file with macros. Excel is perfect for this kind of thing. I'm hoping that CatastrophicFailure can open it.

I was originally gonna go with Custer Kerman, but, well...

I thought so too. Pity. There goes my plan for an entire chapter in "Ussari."

    Well, you've lucked out, then.

A fake cyrillic generator with fully customization output. No promises on reliability, though. VBA is a bit glitchy when handling some unicode characters. Hopefully, this will be useful.

Sorry, I was a bit hasty. I thought TextureReplacer came with a skybox, but since it doesn't your mod should be fine. I might have to make two CKAN entries, one with the skybox EnvMap and one allowing reflections.

Texture Replacer doesn't actually use the ENV maps anymore, except maybe as a legacy/performance feature. They're only still in the download because having them doesn't hurt anything. I've updated the installation instructions to make that clear.

Hi there @Vaporo, you've chosen on Kerbal Stuff to have your mod added to CKAN, but your mod's installation instructions involve deleting files that don't belong to your mod, and CKAN by policy will not do that.

Well, a CKAN version doesn't actually exist. I was going to create one when I uploaded it to Kerbalstuff, but I was lazy and never bothered. I can't seem to remove the CKAN indicator from Kerbalstuff, so for now I'll just put a note on the description that there is actually no CKAN. I might go ahead and create it, if I get some free time.
