  1. For me, the thud is just used for a little extra thrust at launch. I put them on a radial decoupler and detach them partway through the stage.
  2. Yeah, I forget the names of these things sometimes... So then it's just whatever I think it is with a Kerb in front.
  3. You can change the settings of the game in the difficulty tab to turn Kerbnet off
  4. Or you could upgrade the tracking station and the mission control (I think, but you can see in game) Edit: Yes, those are the correct buildings to upgrade. Also, the wiki has a lot of info on these sorts of things.
  5. A simple rocket that has enough dV to get to orbit is as follows: Mk16 Parachute Mk1 Capsule Heatsheild decoupler FL-T400 fuel tank Terrier engine decoupler 4x FL-T400 fuel tank Swivel The TWR is 1.19, 1.16 if science interments are added. dV is somewhere around 4000 m/s.
  6. If you find yourself rolling on slopes, try building a roll cage to protect the delicate science instruments. If you are skidding down the hills, try adding drought chutes and adding an engineer to the crew roster to repack. Ah. I thought we were brainstorming ideas of how to get to these difficult-to-reach places. My bad!
  7. Ah. I see what you are trying to do... That is difficult because of said "tidying up". I wish you all the luck in the world (or on Kerbin )! Personally, however, I just complete missions to gain science points, and don't bother going around the KSC to gather all science possible. (Except in early game, when science is hard to come by)
  8. Mountains can be found just West of the KSC. I believe there are also highlands west of the KSC as well, but check me on both of these. I think there is a website out there with interactive biome maps of Kerbin... I will try to find it again and post the web address. Good luck! Edit: Again, I understand your problem is landing on these biomes. Mountain would be difficult, but there is a plateau there that you might be able to parachute to.
  9. Yes, the default key was changed. However, if you are playing on an old game that has been transferred to the new version, you need to manually go into the key bindings and change it to whatever you like.
  10. Suggestion: Use Kerbnet, or whatever it's called on a satellite to see the different biomes. It is a new feature on 1.2, so you can see where you need to go and place waypoints.
  11. I am the same as @GoSlash27, as I don't use strategies at all. They just don't seem worth it to me, as all the things are useful. Then again, I have never completed the tech tree, so I don't know about converting science to funds or reputation.
  12. Sorry for the stupidity... I am at school right now and imugur is blocked... I couldn't see the pic. Sorry!
  13. Basically I don't know what's going on. Are the intersect lines flashing, or is it something else? Can you describe what is happening more thoroughly?
  14. Not exactly sure what you are asking. Do you need advice, or are you trying to report a bug?
  15. You will be missed! All KSPers will remember you for what you have made this beautiful game into! Thank you for all your contributions! Kerbal Space Program has greatly benefited from your hard work!
  16. Yes, 1.2 has added the option for parachutes to only deploy when safe, but it is safe in the lower atmosphere right after launch... The only thing I can see doing is have a big heat shield like you said, and the have several of those 80 m/s plus survivable parts like the I-beams in a roll cage.
  17. Another thing is that when big lumps of rock (I'm lookin at you, Mun) get in the way, you lose signal. Not a big deal for beginning missions, but later in the game when you have ground bases, this can become an issue.
  18. I usually do a Mun landing first, then do Minmus. You can use this dV map attached to find how much dV you need to get to the different places. Also helpful is this: http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Cheat_sheet#Delta-v_.28.CE.94v.29 And this: http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Tutorial:Advanced_Rocket_Design
  19. What do they mean by "Localization testing"?
  20. Mine is "Effecting Oberth". (Or "Maneuvering Hohmann")
  21. Hey there, I have found an app on the apple App Store that is really useful for this kind of stuff. It's called "KSP Companion". It has info on all stock bodies, distribution for satellites, and transfer info. Hope it helps you out!
