  2. wait. since when did you become a moderator?

  3. It has been a strange week...

I was told that again, this year, there's no money in the budget for me to be placed in a tenured position. So, I continue onto year 11 on an annual contract.

I'm teaching five classes with three at a community college and two through a local 4-year university. Three World Civilization to 1500 courses, one Introduction to U.S. Foreign Policy, and one U.S. History since 1945. It gives me a total of 137 students for this semester. But still no tenure.

During my office hours yesterday, I had a student demand a list of movies. He doesn't like reading. Also wants oral exams on the content of the movies ONLY without any other coursework. Then when I refused his demands, he calls me a fascist and tells me he hopes I burn in whatever place if eternal torment my faith teaches waits for evil people.

I consider myself a pretty laid back person. But Hollywood history isn't necessarily real history. And then to demand I hand-craft a class according to one student's demands? Yeah, sure. Let me get right on it. NOT!

Maybe once you hit Lead Moderator, you can finally retire from teaching students and focus on teaching people who actually want to learn.

On some levels that could be better than it is here.  At least it keeps traffic moving.  One of the biggest problems where I am is that people don't freaking go when the light turns green.

I have had to honk so many times.  I've had to honk at people going the other direction so I could turn left.

      Put.  Your.  Phone.  Down.

What got me was how there were so many cars when there were no gas stations and nowhere to park.

We also ended up eating at The Liberty Tavern in Arlington.  I can't believe it's legal to charge that much for food.  Thank god I wasn't the one paying.

I highly doubt I'll ever be in the area again.  We were only out there so my wife could bury her uncle in Arlington, and her other uncle won't be buried there when he passes.

Plus the 32 hours of driving is a killer.  And anyone who chooses to drive in that area on a regular basis could be declared legally insane.

Wow, really?  If only I had announced I was going and when I was going to be there, maybe we could have met up and toured the museum together.

It was nice to see Adam Savage's videos, since now I know which CM was in their restoration bay.  (Skylab)

Yup!  I was there a few weeks ago, apparently right around the time Adam Savage was.  I didn't get the special treatment he did, though.

      One down, four to go.

  9. Last night I destroyed my phone by running it in the washing machine.... again.

I should not be allowed to have a cell phone.

I think the best bet would be to get one of those washers that you can control with your phone, and then disable local control... so I have to use my phone to start it.

You know, spend like $3k because I broke a $100 phone. (Maybe... It's still sitting in front of a fan... which probably won't do much since cell phone manufacturers have decided the preventing us from opening then thing up is good for us.)

  10. Earlier today, I realized that it has been four months since my last violation of Forum rule 2.2 - the forbidden content rule. Now before any of you jump up and wonder, I will tell you that I love the art of political discourse. I also have a tendency to jump into a politically baited thread with both feet... which is clearly a violation of Forum Rule 2.2 (and this is why I have received four warnings from various moderators about such comments).

Well, today I was able to NOT take a swing at a low-hanging pitch begging for political commentary... and in celebration of that accomplishment, I present you the newest element of my signature:

I was really referring to the sig image.  My only real concern is newer members might be a little less respective to a mod bragging about breaking the rules.  I didn't mean to imply to hide what had been done or said.

Might be wise to remove this, given recent promotional events ;)

lol, wasn't implying it was.  Just Apache's default start page is basically a slim instruction page.

I'm not even sure what Wordpress is.  Just assuming it was a web server.  Is it specifically for blogging?

"Hello World" is the first message pretty much any programming tutorial will have you print first.

      Never actually used Wordpress!

Thankfully the fresh install page of Apache2 is a little more helpful.

  15. Hello, everyone. So. Life updates!

I haven't played KSP since last time I saw you. Actually, I uninstalled it for the first time in years. I'll probably take at least a year of time out from it, which is fine considering I'd been playing it almost nonstop for some five years.

I have a new job: I now do BI for a (big) insurance broker (which is opening up for other products). I knew nothing of insurance before this, so I'm doing homework all day long. At first I thought I couldn't access the forum even if I wanted to, but recently I discovered the company has both a Corporate and a Pesonal wi-fi networks, and I can use the Personal without a firewall. That means I might be around here more often that I thought at first :) (I may not feel the same about the game as I once did, but know this: I miss the forum. You guys are in my heart)

Unlike my previous job, however, I've been busy the whole friggin' day, and I get home tired as hell. I used to moderate from work, now I can barely catch my Feed. Also, I'm now co-worker with a childhood friend, and that's pretty damn awesome.

My wife's employed again, after a year without a job. She's teaching classes at a university! So, between that and my slightly improved paycheck, our household income has increased by some 110%, which is great for our plans of building our new house.

I guess that's it for now! Hope you guys are doing fine.

Just read that there's an 1.4.3 coming up, I'm crossing my fingers you get a product you can call "THE game". 1.3.2 was so close to being it, in my opinion! 1.4.0 was a big let down to me, but I wouldn't have left the forum if not for a combination of factors including changes in my personal life. Even if I never play KSP again, it was a big part of my life, and I think you guys deserve a definitive edition, just like the game itself deserves to be in a worthy shape of a larger market.

    o/

Just came by to see if I could figure out why I haven't seen ya around much.  Sucks to see you take a sorta hiatus, but glad things are turning so well for you!

Hope to still see you around, and I hope 1.4.8 is everything you need when you get a chance to come back!
