  3. Agreed. This was an often used method on spaceplane re-entry, by mounting a probe core in a payload bay rotated to your preferred angle. You could control from there and have it hold prograde relative to the angled probe, for re-entry.
  4. I usually ditch the inflatable. The regular heatshields provide a valuable shock absorber if you are coming in slightly hot.
  5. I am having a problem with the KSC runway and buildings suddenly floating above the surrounding terrain. Additionally, Kerbin, when viewed from low orbit, has large square tiled appearance on nearest terrain/clouds. I'm still playing a career in 1.7.0 so I wonder if this is a known issue with some mod that can be fixed with minimal save breakage. Any advice greatly appreciated in advance.

  7. They're called fuel cells. You have them. Or, if you wanted less efficiency, you could mount opposing nuke engines to each end of a tank and use the alternator.
  8. Yes; but it's difficult. I have flown an Atlas/Mercury mission similar to Glenn's first orbit using a FASA craft. It took about a dozen tries. You have to have a really good feel for orbiting without aid for it to work. While my stock KSP is MJ free, my RO install is getting MJ added.
  9. Had a feeling this was the case. Extra spicy indeed, as my playthrough involves a hard mode, no revert/quicksave permadeath career. Have a Mun rescue coming up at a 4k orbit. Could be splatty, when coming off rails at rendezvous.
  10. I did sort out what was going on, but forgot to reply back. The rescue contracts had orbits with Ap above atmosphere, but Pe in the 70s and low 80s. I was flying the Navball, so when I wound up in atmosphere after EVA, I didnt know cause. This does bring up one issue with contracts. While they show as complete, the rescues don't advance rank because the orbit wasn't completely out of the atmosphere. (If you don't do a burn prograde to raise Pe before re-entry. )
  11. Playing a career in .4 JNSQ... Seem to have an issue with EVA. Not sure if issue or known about (or even confirmed). Whenever I EVA either for a rescue contract, or getting a science report, upon reboarding or rescue, the Crafts orbit is wildly changed. For example a 100k Kerbin orbit might be slightly sub-orbital after boarding. This is happening regularly enough in my save that I think its a thing.

  15. @Galileo I'd like to say this is a wonderful mod. Was getting a little burnt on stock scale, and have spent the afternoon playing with JNSQ. (I also have a new 1.6.1 RO install, also.) First thing I did was launch the stock Kerbal X to orbit and send it towards the Mun. Then alt12'd it to Eve and use the remaining fuel to de orbit. I really want to say that I enjoy the feel and look of this effort by you guys. The work shows. Well done! Edit: wanted to add: load seemed fast for such a mod.
  16. This is reminiscent of most cars resembling one another when all were designed in a wind tunnel. The mathmatics take them all in the same direction. This effect may be magnified in KSP by having fixed part choices.

  18. Congrats on getting the game. Take a bit and master what you have. If history is any lesson, the DLC will be on sale in a few weeks.

  23. As a parent, I can say that you have to look at it from their perspective. Gaming often gets lumped into one massive category. I was also cautious about purchasing 'certain titles' for my young ones. Please understand that. Explain to them that this is basically a physics-simulating lego set. Take the academic aspect, and sell it that way. Explain to them that some on this board, like myself, are older than they are (possibly 2×) and have backgrounds in mathematics, science, engineering, etc. Good luck!
