I figured it out myself, it's pixel light count. When I installed Laythe ASP, i set the graphics settings to minimum. I set PLC to 0, and it's dark now! The VAB also got some darker. The launchpad floodlight now is always on. The editor reflections got better. The game appears to work with less lag. Long live the Pixel Light Count!

In 1.1 the SPH was a lot darker. But now is 1.6 and SPH looks like before. And I saw this picture: It's 1.6.0! How can I get this? How can I fulfill my nostalgic needs? When I set the ambient light to -100% everywhere, this happens. It's essentially the inverse of what I want! And it's not Lightsout, because it's day.
