  1. Besides the planets, this is what i am waiting for. It would make plane building significantly easier
  2. Recently I have been playing around with space planes so I think the visual cues of thrust, lift, and drag are going to be really helpful
  3. This past week I have been taking on the challenge of building a completely SSTO Space Plane (which i succeeded and will be posting it in the Spacecraft Exchange soon) but through out the ordeal that is learning how to pilot said space plane, I came across one issue that I could not solve to my satisfaction. This is issue is when to engage my rocket engines to go into orbit. At first, I would go to about 11-13km at an angle of attack of 60*; when I noticed the Prograde marker start falling I would engage rockets and burn into orbit. Though this got the job done I couldn't help but feel that I didn't really use the full potential of my Air Breathing engines. Later on I tried for a more horizontal angle of attack, but then realised that, while I had a faster velocity when I engaged my rockets, I would lose quite a bit of Delta V to atmospheric drag and gravity loss (At least, I think that is what it was). Still, I was able to make it into a sub-orbital trajectory. Long story short, how do YOU do it? Do you go for a sharp angle of attack and maximise your rockets? Do you go more horizontal? Both? Neither? Do I make any sense? Discuss your experiences.
  4. Was that your face in the bottom right? 'Cause that's Hilarious! How far can you get with that thing?
  5. So I went back and fixed what was causing the middle stack wasting away first ( It was cross-feeding). Then I read up on what specific impulse means, realised that big booster on the second stage was unnecessary; replaced it with the older gimbaling engine. So i tried going to the mun with this new design and quickly realised this design is actually MORE efficient than my previous ship. So I tried landing it Hilarity (and an idea for a new design ensued) I'll upload the David XIII to the Original Post. P.S. The first image is me just boosting as far as possible for funzies
  6. I would like to have my new Mun Lander Design added David XII The Link is to my thread so there is WAY more info there.
  7. UPDATE! I have uploaded an improved version of my rocket capable of true SSTM Hello everyone! With the coming of 0.16 I had to revise and remake all of my rockets, good fun! I bring to you the 'King' of my Rockets, the 'David XII' Single Stage Mun Launch System (SSMLS) I\'ll be uploading a .CRAFT file at the end of the gratuitous pictures of me making it to the Mun and back. Miscellaneous Info: - This is the biggest and most powerful Rocket I have built so far, therefore I decided to name it after the most powerful king of Israel, David, in the Hebrew Scriptures. - This baby is a polluter, ALL of the stages in this rocket end up in orbit of some body in the Kerbol system, be it Kerbin, Mun, or even Kerbol (the first stage usually does this because of a Munar Gravity Assist) - This rocket works best when using controlled burns, I usually try to keep my G marker around 1 and accelerate accordingly - Command Module has RCS because I don\'t like the fact that it just moves on its own - The strange layout of the second stage was inspired by this lander made by 'deadshot462' and of course the Apollo Missions Thanks for checking out my designs! I\'ll keep posting new ones as I make new ones that I consider to be cool! P.S. If you guys want, I can attach Davids IV-XI, they were all failures is some way or another, it's hilarious!
  8. I don\'t orbit Kerbin at all when I go for the mun. I think I figured out what the OP did by sheer trial and error; it definately is nice to see all the maths though
  9. I\'m flying it now and I like it! The only thing that is weird is that when I reach about 20 degrees to climb and hit the asas, the thing bobs up and down like crazy! How do you stop that?
  10. My new Jacob VIII Rocket First Stage Ascent Second Stage Orbital Burn My First Successful EVA
  11. Hello everyone! Just got this game four days ago and wanted to stop by and make a contribution to The Kerbal Space Program The ABR-II It uses four LVT-30 and 1 LVT-45 Engines for liftoff purposes in the first stage which can reach about 90km in under 3 minutes if you go straight up. (When I took this image, I forgot to put my Gimbaling engine in the first stage, the uploaded CRAFT file has that little hick-up fixed.) During the second stage, the four LVT-30s are discarded and the LVT-45 is used to correct orbit and transfer to the Mun The third and final powered stage can be used for to get the Mun and return safely Extra notes: -The Third stage has only half a tank of fuel, so if you aren\'t careful you can run out fairly quickly -The second stage of the rocket can power you to the Mun if you plan it right and the third stage can actually get you into and out of a stable orbit with the Mun and even Minmus -The first stage has five boosters but only four of the gas tanks are used -ABR stands for 'Abraham' I intend to name my line of space vehicles using bible characters This vehicle could probably even be made to land on the Mun if it had some landing gear; My piloting skills and knowledge are extremely poor so far so I am content with just making countless passes of the Mun. I am trying to design now a ABR-III which will probably include landing gear on the final stage and replace the LV-45 for the 909. Still with this very minimalist build it would have to make use of slingshots and what not, something I really cannot do at the moment, seeing as I still have issues getting into Munar Orbit Alone XD.
