I'm starting to feel the call of space once again... I might start streaming my careerbox save again soon.
-
Hey all! I just revamped my forum avatar to use perfect curves instead of the varied curves I had before. It's a subtle difference but makes the whole arrowhead a bit sleeker. What do you think?
-
New avatar! The new face of HafCo. I've been sporting this avatar for some time now outside of KSP, and I figure its time to change here too
-
Still spinning!
Looks like the journey took the craft above the 250 altitude limit, forcing it to the ground. Anyways I"m impressed. It sailed all night.
-
Ah you got it - while the engines can technically lift 500t, I definitely don't suggest it with how low it's operating altitude is it couldn't even reach the top of the VAB before the atmosphere thinned too much to increase altitude. Here's the engine data I uncovered with SumGuy, and here's the craft file if anyone wants it too.
Procedure to launch:
- Press stage 1, wait 2 seconds, press stage 2. If either engine fails to be grabbed by the claw revert to launch and reset
- Extend both inflatable airlocks (This docks them to the claw to make step 3 more rigid)
- Free the pivot on both claws.
- Press final stage and throttle up to max. Craft should lift off when the wheesley's reach 1~09.5 kN of thrust
You can also skip the engine gimbal by switching stage 3 to the start and simply launching. The engine gimbal is still pretty finicky, and changing yaw with the gimbals free causes the engines to fly off so beware of that as well...
Note to Azimech: I increased the number of RCS ports that hold the rotor the farthest joint (the one at the bottom where the gyroscopic precession is the worst) from three to six and also went with a hybrid of six spectro-variometers to keep the bearing centered (since they're massless and don't move much from their parent), and six large landing gear (to share the load from gyroscopic precession when turning at high Gs). I found that the combination worked better than either on their own, and now it's more likely for the pilot error to be the cause of crash than the blades unseating themselves.

You know that propeller I've been posting about lately? Well, I upped the number of blowers and blades to eight per engine and it turns out the pair can now lift 500 tons.
I'm leaving it hovering over night with infinite fuel. It can't ascend more than 250-ish meters before atmospheric pressure drops too low for the wheesley's to hit max thrust, so hopefully it'll balance and just keep traveling towards the mountains at 4m/s until morning. Will report back tomorrow to see if it's still flying.

Going live again sometime around 2:30-3pm PST - got some new progress on my two-point door hinge to show
EDIT:
1:30-2pm--> 2:30-3pm Had to delay an hour -
I was debating adding props to a new transport craft and just realized I wasn't already following you... fixed now!
-
Yeah! It's currently a debate between using goliaths or going all out with a pair of massive propellers. I've got very little practice with propellers though so I might ask your help in the future. Needs to survive time warp... and maybe phys... Concept

After a six month hiatus I'm back playing Kerbal again, and to coincide with that Twitch just sent me an invitation to their Affiliate program! I'm hoping to do some more streaming later this week, if not tonight.
- as a closing note to why I've been away for so long, this isn't the first time I've taken an extensive break from KSP. Not the second either. There's something that keeps drawing me back... Curiosity? Nostalgia? Community? Opportunity? Who knows.

Streaming building the Lego Saturn V if anyone wants to join Should be here for another 3-4 hours
-
Well it's almost 4:30 but I'm finally able to let Spectra v1.0 out of the bag. Gnight everyone I'll be up sometime in the afternoon...
-
I found the culprit. The snow layer on Kerbin was eating up 10 frames. I'm removing it from Spectra until I can find a less intensive way to add snow Without it it should be just about as intensive as SVE
-
Yeah... I did a comparison between SVE and Spectra's clouds, and on average Spectra is ~20 frames slower :') time to simplify.
-
Getting back to work on Spectra. Sometimes the mood just strikes you, you know? The main thing I'm hoping to improve though is frame stutters I'm getting fairly frequently. I'm going to work from the ground up to try and locate what's causing it, and fix it.
@Galileo I might also try to adapt your lightning into Spectra if it's alright with you? It looks gorgeous.
-
New Avatar to match Spectra I also got reports of people worried they were going color blind watching my avatar fade to gray every few seconds...
-
Hey man, I just wanted to say that your Jool ascent has been a bit of an icon for myself and a number of other streamers out there. We where all chatting in discord and started nerding out over that challenge. I saw you're still active and I thought you might like to hear that your old thread is still making jaws drop
-
I've got a new video in post-production now. It should be releasing sometime tomorrow... *checks time* er... today!
-
I think that's it for following requests. I shouldn't be spamming your notifications anymore ;).
-
Sadly none I put that up as a suggestion to be done with the new mk1 remodel porkjet did for this next update. It's an idea which I fully support but I'm not sure it will be added or not. Best to keep hope up though
