Deep Diver Challenge: 1.0.5 Edition!

Recommended Posts

Heres my entry:

Im currently still piloting it, at around half fuel so I can still go farther, but I've made it to the Island airbase, or about 20km away. The powerhouse is 4 junos and a wheesley.

Top Speed: 24.1m/s

Top Depth: 601m.

Im sure I can go deeper, but im not interested in the whole world eating event.

This is my first test sub. I'll try and get one that scores some high points :D

So I stumbled upon this, and had to go download .05 just to try it out. First I figured I'd be all cool and dump an asteroid into the oceans of Eve. Slapped together a ship and spent the next two and a half hours getting there, but, well...

[imgur]fHPYH[/imgur]

Final depth (on Kerbin) was 1005 meters. Asteroid-ballasted diving bell.

Well good to know about asteroids on Eve... Until someone sitcks millions of bits of extra ore to sink it.

This is really cool. Now you just need to bring one of those astroids to lathe, and you will have the new high score for depth.

Off the beach at KSC...Barsen K tried for -1000m but touched bottom close to -911m and blew ore ballast tank...
I think WH40krules's entry should be DQed. He used FAR, which really would allow anyone to go faster than using stock aero
Oh dang, really? His speed does seem kind of anomalous.... I'll see if I can get him to confirm. If he did, I'll move him down to Hall of Fame.

Okay, so refresher on the rules for people: No mods besides information or beauty mods, no hyperedit, no debug menu (which means no infinite resources). Your submarine has to be entirely stock parts, and must perform under the constraints of stock physics.

I'll update the scoreboard with all the new entries soon, and I'm going to investigate the WH40 situation. Stay tuned.

Edit: I'm updating the rules to make things a bit less unambiguous, and I'm striking that VAB rule, since nobody has done that, and it doesn't really matter that much.
Does this count as launching from a boat?

http://i.imgur.com/C4s66o4h.png
I... guess? It's kinda dinky, but I'll allow it. The sub itself looks great, though. I'm looking forward to your official submission! Edited by Red Dwarf

OK here is a sneak preview of one of my MAIN entries

can Carrie up to a max of 66 kerbals
weighs over 700 tons
has 6 Big turbines and 4 panthers
can only be launched from the runway

Anyway enjoy :D the preview(had a problem with the Main recording software and it RANDOMLY cut out some footage after I got done recording so im going to have to do a take over again -_- but this time im adding lights :D

oh I also have a mod called Rasterpropmonitor is that ok if I use that with the hud disabled and all on the outside this is somewhat of the equivalent for me? (basically It replaces the useless textured hud in the cockpit with a more functional one that has a nav-ball, crew and ship info, speed, alt etc...) basically a functional system inside the cockpit Edited by Lego8_bit

Yeah, RPM is fine, since it's technically an information mod. This looks to be one of our biggest submissions so far, so I'm excited to see what that thing can do!

Alright, I have decided to put my own entry in here cause if I can do this, anyone should be able to... I got bored at about 22.2km though, so for now that's all I got... 22.2km lateral and 1km down. About to the island.... maybe I'll try some more later... If anyone is interested, looks like SRBs (kickbacks anyhow) are either neutrally buoyant or might even sink if I didn't have a cockpit strapped to it...
thank you for the suggestion but im gonna hold on that due to it being VERY finicy with gravity and it weighting over 700 tons
Also I would have given you a slap on the wrist for using mods to move your subs around :P

I agree, it looks like a very useful tool, but part of the challenge of making a submarine is getting it to the water first

yeah that aslo why i said no and im gonna post the video in 4-6 hrs give or take currently rendering the entry

also i just found out you can build an under water base but you would have to use KAS to attach to the world.

OK here it is my heavy passenger sub.
has traveled over 50,000 M
went to a depth of -944 i think
had a speed of 16-11 M/s diving and 20-40 M/s rising 34 m/s on surface of ocean had to resurface twice (ship remained in tact)
carried 66 kerbals with me the whole trip

total time it took me 2:00 hours to make this and i had to speed some bits up to reduce the time got it down to 1 hr 10 min
i was also checking the cockpit view like a madman to make sure that my depth was in check ( if you see the hud pop up briefly then disappear i paused the game to go afk for a bit then come back)

Overall a fun little thing to do anyway here is the video

hope this counts,

Hey !

So , I decided to make a podracer for this challenge, with a frame-boat to carry it on water.
It has two basic liquid fuel engines and here my results :

Highest depth : 984 m
Highest horizontal speed : 28.4 m/s
Highest underwater speed : 52.5 m/s (vertical climbing from the bottom)
Highest distance travelled underwater : 57.2 km

I broke two of my fins on purpose to prove that I reached the bottom
