Civil War Planes

Recommended Posts

Here is my sort of showcase of planes that will be featured in my story, Civil War (coming to forums near you this _______).

For now, I haven't built the planes, so a simple drawing and description will have to do.

The planes are split up into 3 classes: Fighter, Attacker, and Bomber. I have actually made more bombers than everything else, but to be honest, that class has the most room for improvement. Hope you all enjoy the planes, their descriptions, and the story to come. :)

*NOTE: These planes are for the National Army ONLY!!! I haven't planned the designs for the PRNS (Peoples Republic of the National States) yet.

Fighters: Fast, small, and light, these planes normally have 1 cockpit and a light armament.

Spoiler

F-61 “Lightning”; A fast, small fighter jet with good maneuverability; Recommended for Air-to-Air combat, Bomber Escort, and Long-Range Interception. Crew: 1 Engines: 1 Weapons: 2x .50 cal

Design: N/A

Picture: N/A

F-31 “Freedom”; Faster than the F-61, but also a little bit larger, as it utilizes brand-new Jet Engine technology; Recommended for Air-to-Air combat, Bomber Escort, and medium to short range interception. Crew: 1, Engines: 2, Weapons: 3x .50 cal

Design: N/A

Picture: N/A

Attackers: These planes, similar to the Fighters but longer, hold bomb payloads, allowing them to perform well against both ground and air targets.

Spoiler

A-36 “Falcon”; Larger than the Fighters, the A-36 utilizes it’s medium speed to good effect when it comes to bombing runs; Recommended for Bombing and Air-to-Air combat (Bombs not on the wings), as well as Bomber Escort. Crew: 2, Engines: 1, Weapons: 4x Mk. 82 bombs, 2x .50 cal Turret (1 at front for air combat, 1 at rear for defense)

Design: N/A

Picture: N/A

A-63 “Falcon Mk. II”; Slightly smaller than the A-36, it’s predecessor, the A-63 is faster, slightly more maneuverable, and has a larger bomb payload, and also utilizes the Jet technology. Recommended for Bombing, Air-to-Air combat (Bombs removed), and Bomber Escort. Crew: 2, Engines: 2, Weapons: 6x Mk. 82 bombs, 2x .50 cal Turret (1 at front for air combat, 1 at rear for defense)

Design: N/A

Picture: N/A

Bombers: The large, slow planes that are bombers normally have a large amount of bombs, and require an escort.

Spoiler

B-12 “Fortress”; Using mainly Mk. 3 parts, the B-12 uses its size to carry multiple amounts of bombs in one cargo bay. Recommended for Bombing (Requires escort if enemy fighters are present). Crew: 4, Engines: 4, Weapons: 20x Mk. 82 bombs, 4x .50 cal Turret (for defense), 2x CBU-57 Cluster Bombs

Design: N/A

Picture: N/A

X-4B “Ultra-Bomber”; The sleek, fast design of the X-4B utilizes a low-drag, high-speed build very well, as it utilizes both large wings and Jet Engines. Recommended for Bombing (No escort needed; it’s too fast), and CAS (Close Air Support). Crew: 2, Engines: 7, Weapons: 10x Mk. 82 bombs, 4x CBU-57 Cluster Bombs, 4x .50 cal Turret (2 at rear for defense, 2 on wings for CAS)

Design: ko7PnoX.jpg

Picture: N/A

X-5B “Gunship”; Basically the same as the X-4B, except it has more fuel, more guns, but less bombs. Recommended for Light Bombing (No escort needed) and CAS (Close Air Support). Crew: 2, Engines: 7, Weapons: 5x Mk. 82 bombs, 4x CBU-57 Cluster Bombs, 1x M230 Turret (At rear for defense), 4x .50 cal Turret (On wings for CAS Missions)

Design: Same as the X-4B; just with guns and a smaller cargo bay

Picture: N/A

KN-1 “Fisher”; a multi-purpose, high-speed naval bomber capable of landing on an aircraft carrier due to its low stall speed. Recommended for Naval bombing (Escort most likely needed; not required) and CAS (Close Air Support). Crew: 2, Engines: 2, Weapons: 4x Mk. 82 bombs, 2x .50 cal Turret, 2x CBU-57 Cluster Bombs, 1x Mk. 82 Snake-eye bomb, 1x M230 Turret (At rear for defense)

Design: N/A

Picture: N/A

So, what do you think? I'm going to try to get the pictures of the designs and the actual pictures of the planes in flight up as soon as possible; I just don't have that much time.

Are you taking submissions?

mmmaaaayyybbbeeee; If I do it'll be for some other nation that sends volunteers every couple or so chapters.

By all means you can submit some, and I would be honored if you did; they just might not be a main staple

Not gonna lie, I clicked into this thread expecting to see some vintage aircraft from some sort of alternate-history American Civil War era of aviation. Whoops :sticktongue:

Well then I would have something from the Wright Brothers XD!!!

@DarkOwl57 I could quickly make a Juno-powered fighter if you want. I'm assuming you want stock craft? :)

Stock is good; The fighter would probably go towards the later end of the story since I'm having the National States (The good guys) Get Juno's at Chapter 5, the PRNS (People's Republic of the National States (The bad guys)) get them at about chapter 10, and everyone else in the world gets them at around 8 or 9. But submissions would be GREAT!

Sure, I'll see if I can have one up by this weekend. :)

Would the use of a few mods (Propeller engines, Procedural parts/wings) be OK?

Also, the craft will not come with weapons because I cannot get BDArmory to load on my KSP. Whoops

Propeller engines are just fine (Firespitter or Airplane Plus would be GREAT) but The only other mods I have besides that are KerbinSide and BDArmory

Alright, any preference to the type of fighter (Early biplanes, monoplanes, bombers, the like)?

Since it's set in WW2, I'd prefer single-level wings. If you do a fighter, it has to have only guns. Attackers have at max 6 bombs, 3 guns, and 1 turret at the rear for defense. Bombers can have as many bombs as possible, although they have to be in a bomb-bay. Turrets at the rear are encouraged, although some turrets on the side for CAS (Close Air Support) could work as well.

The problem is, like I've stated before, I can't get BDArmory to load properly in my save file. Would it be OK if I sent the planes to you and then you could add weapons to your liking?

well what version are you in? I would prefer 1.1.3 because then I could use KerbinSide with it
