[1.4.3] Parachute icon doesn't appear

Parachutes don't do anything. Once placed you can change settings, however, the parachute icon doesn't appear at all to activate it. In addition, it cannot be activated by clicking on the component. This makes it near impossible to land on Kerbin.

Which icon?  The staging one?  Are you in flight or in the VAB?

 

Has this always happened or after you installed some mods?  Which mods?  Did you try removing the ones installed before the bug occured?

Yes, the staging icon. Even when I add only a pod and a Mk12 parachute or radial parachute the stage does not show. I first noticed the problem in-flight while trying to land, but it is also missing from the VAB.

It did not happen before today, but I updated all of my mods today as most were 2 months old.

It takes so long to load with mods I didn't want to do the 'remove one at a time' method unless necessary, but if that's the recommended solution I'll give it a go.

It's not speedy either, and it's not always fool proof, but it's faster than restarting, in the alt-F12 menu, you can reload the database, which is very similar to re starting the game.    Might help you out.

 

But, is there an "enable staging" button in the VAB for the chutes?  I don't recall one for stock, but with a bunch of mods, it may be one of those, and the default is counter intuitive.

 I have these also, so maybe you can ignore those initially as you try to whittle down the culprit.
