Is it possible to switch game modes

I've been doing a science save, and want to switch to a career save. For RP reasons, I want everything (satellites, asteroids, time, unlocked tech) to stay the same. Is this possible, at all?

When the actual career mode came out, it turned my science mode into career, just because in the .sfs file there is a line that defines game mode (and back then science mode was simply called career) You could just try to change it and see if it works. But there is also question about funds you'll get or not.
