Gilly deployed science.. Cannot deploy part as it is not on the surface of a planet

I cannot seem to make the deployed science work on Gilly.  The part is still floating towards the surface when the message "Cannot Deploy Part as it is not on the surface of a planet" comes up in yellow just under the altitude widget

Is there something I am missing or is this a bug?

So it doesn't land on the surface if you wait for it to fall? Sorry if that's a dumb question but it's not clear to me what's happening for you.

I had this problem too. I used the gravity cheat to work around it.

@Vanamonde well, you can't wait for it as such. When you hit space to deploy the module, it starts floating toward the surface but fails before it gets there. It does get to the surface but only after the deployment has failed and there is no way of re-deploying without picking it up, and then you have the falling problem again..

Success!..  If you can find an incline steep enough, and face uphill, and turn the units to the right angle (depends on the type of unit) the science units will touch the ground before failing to open.

I would just like to add that traversing Gilly with science is painful as you can't pack a Jetpack.. DON'T JUMP..
