The Tale of Bob and the Forgotten Parachutes

After being stranded and eventually reverting for 5 missions, Bob was not pleased. He signed up for a final Gilly mission, and it was a success! They (It was a gemini pod with val, too) plotted a course home, and after re-entry they hit the stage button. Just a click was heard, and no FWOOSH of parachutes. “Uh-oh” said bob, at altitude 1,000 meters, and falling rapidly. In a desperate attempt to land safely, he flipped the capsule, pointy-end down. The docking port and monopropellant tanks weren’t enough, and Bob’s capsule hit the ground at 150 m/s, flattening both Bob and Val. One mistake, made 3 years before their return resulted in another revert to launchpad, only to add 2 radial mount parachutes. (For comedic value, let’s pretend they were the orange ones.)

I hate it when that happens. I try to check the little engineer’s checklist at the bottom right of the VAB screen to double check for any brain farts such as a Tylo landing with no ladders (kerbals can’t fly on Tylo). However I still did a Duna landing and return where I forgot to repack the parachutes on Duna and Jeb was still wondering why the parachutes weren’t opening as he hit the ground at 220 m/s. I just quick-save scummed because I didn’t have the dedication to redo the entire mission.
