Your Tallest Structure to Another Planet/Moon

Recommended Posts

This thread is for posting the tallest stock structure you've ever landed on another body. Below is my best thus far "the great tripod." It was launched mainly in one go, then received some extra fuel and engines in orbit before heading to the mun. My goal was to land it right next to the armstrong memorial, but targeting of the landing zone proved very difficult due to the large mass and low thrust. Ended up landing about 30km away.

Obviously the buran cams aren't stock but all the actual engine/fuel/phsyics stuff was. I have preliminarily built a second version with a docking clamp on the top - the idea building I could keep sending small additions to keep adding height. But that structure hasn't gone anywhere yet.

More importantly, what's its purpose? Besides looking completely amazing of course.

I guess you guys didn't grow up in an oil field?

It's dereck for a well-head. From the looks of the "Christmas Tree" it looks like it has plenty of pressure too. I guess they hit pay dirt.

It's a completely eye-candy derrick, correct?

I didn't think it was a derrick at first because it did not become narrower as it grew taller.

I'm Texan, I know about the stereotypical oil well.

Yup, MSC Launchpad. It's over 180m away. On top is the sperical cockpit from the Deep Space Mission Pack:

I built a tower on Minmus once. About 4 VAB's high. No uploaded screenshots yet. Hopefully on my PC @home.
