Parts are unlocked by buying them with science in an online auction

Recommended Posts

Since some parts are pretty valuable for construction, such as the cubic octogonal strut, players will purchase two or three nodes in advance to acquire them early.

What if the price of unlocking a part in the game was determined by a free market?

Let a server release one of each part per n seconds, and hold a brief online auction to determine which connected player gets to unlock that part in their game. They must bid science they earned in-game, and pay the bid if they win.

The auction rate is adapted to meet average demand for parts in general.

Terrible idea. It means that people will be denied access to parts because they are essential for ship design. The first thing I'd expect to see is a huge bottleneck for decouplers - a part which is currently one of the first you unlock for very cheap, and for good reason.

And it also ties the game to a server, which can go down or be shut down permanently, thereby crippling your game.

In a multiplayer game this might work but not in single player.

Especially in single player this would put new, inexperienced players at a huge disadvantage. Experienced players just starting over for fun know how to grind science even without those 'vital' parts and have more science points to spend, inflating the prices for the people that REALLY need the parts.

Don't pull a Diablo 3 on KSP.

EVE-Online you mean? Terrible game by the way, literally not fun in any sense, and I tried out everything.

It literally took vast areas of space and somehow made it boring :P

Anyway as previously mentioned, some people do play offline so they can never get any parts at this.

Jesus christ guys I never suggested it should be stock. It might just be a neat mod like KMP, for people who are interested in economics. You can always just turn it off.

If it's not for stock, what are you doing in the suggestion forum? You should be in the mods forum
