Why are structural panels so DUMB?
Claw replied to MerlinsMaster's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Here you go. I did this example in the SPH. The first panel was flipped down so it's easier to see. Move the second panel left and right until it starts to flip. Get it as vertical as you can, then start moving the mouse up and down. Once the panel goes straight vertical (like in the first picture), press 'D' and it will be perfectly aligned when placed. -
Why are structural panels so DUMB?
Claw replied to MerlinsMaster's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I find that when you actually find the perfect center of the edge of a panel, it likes to flip. So if you can find that exact center point where the panel likes to toggle back and forth, you're very close. Then it takes a lot of zoom-in and patience to get it set right. I'll see if I can dig up (or create) a picture of what the heck I'm talking about. ~Claw -
We are sorry. Our questions are not to imply that you are dumb. It's just that sometimes sometimes people make mistakes or things catch us off guard (like Windows stuff showing up in Mac logs). It's easier to ask questions up front, rather than beating around the bush and hoping for the best. Respectfully, ~Claw

Yes, we have split the forums into two sections. The STOCK support forum is meant for if you find stock problems. This can still apply to stock problems brought on by using mods. HOWEVER, we still need people to help themselves by providing the right kind of information so that we don't have to guess. Likely, all modded installs will be shuffled over to the MOD support forum until deemed it to be a stock bug. It might be worth taking a look at the new layouts and taking a quick scan of the stickies. Cheers, ~Claw

Hey RussianCactus, Depending on what version of KSP you are using, you could be running into a clicking issue with the game itself. Sometimes things won't go away. You can try right-clicking elsewhere, going to map mode, or to the space center and return. Also, I went ahead and moved your post out of the old thread, since mechanics have changed a bit since then. Cheers, ~Claw

Why won't my rover wheels grip? [re-post]
Claw replied to flightmaster's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Oh hi there old thread. You're referring to a version of KSP that is over 14 months old. So I think it's best for you to rest at the bottom of the forum. Good night gentle thread, ~Claw -
I want to build a modpack, BUT… please hear me out!
Claw replied to mololabo's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Yes, Everyone, please refrain from snide comments and personal attacks, even if veiled in sarcasm. While I understand that all that hard work needs to be protected, there's no need to go after someone personally. Side comments eventually result in a derailed (and often locked) thread. Which just causes more angst. Please keep on track. Respectfully, ~Claw -
Hey Commander T, Just so you know, your first few posts need to be approved by a moderator (to make sure you aren't a robot). Anyway, if you want to post a screenshot, you need to use a file hosting site like imgur.com, photobucket.com, or any other similar place. A lot of people use imgur.com because you can build albums and embed them here. If you just want to post an image, then surround it with IMG tags like this: [noparse][/noparse] See an example album below. (Also, moved to forum help.) ~Claw

Hmm, I don't think they are vital for the game to function. It might be that if you are resuming an old save, and Bill + Bob aren't defined, then the saves won't load (because it isn't considered valid). Did it delete your "invalid" saves? (Because it will do that for certain errors.)

Yep, search for the "Roster" section in your persistence.sfs or your quicksave.sfs. You'll need to use a plain text editor like notepad (do NOT use word). Look for this section, and make it match below. Jeb is usually first in the roster. You'll likely have to change the "state" and "idx" values. ROSTER { KERBAL { name = Jebediah Kerman type = Crew brave = 0.5 dumb = 0.5 badS = True state = Available ToD = 0 idx = -1 } Might want to keep a copy of your save file in case you make a mistake. Cheers, ~Claw

What do you do when this happens?
Claw replied to Mighty1's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Which is probably why the asteroids bounce. -
Looks like your log might have been cut off by pastebin. Is there more to it? Sounds like you might have a permission problem. Check this thread (most of the way down) for how to fix. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/24536-Self-help-for-crashes-look-here-first-if-KSP-crashes Hopefully that helps, and welcome to the forums! -Claw

Can make a launch stabaliser go in air
Claw replied to LABHOUSE's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
While amusing, it would be nice if you could supply a bit more information (assuming you're actually trying to report a bug of some sort). Try checking this: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/3610-Bug-Reporting-Guidelines-Bug-Tracker (Also, I embedded your pic.) Cheers, ~Claw -
On this note, while it makes more sense compared to real life... The way parts are hooked together in KSP would make fuel management even more of a pain. It's probably a lot easier to deal with it in a few larger tanks than spread all over the wings. ~Claw

Hey KerBlammo, You'll have to supply a bit more information for us to track this down. Indeed, the stock game isn't supposed to let you place a subassembly first. So if it's doing that, then we'll need to know how you did that. If you're using mods, then you might want to list those and someone might be able to narrow it down. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/24543-NEED-SUPPORT-Read-this-before-posting-No-modded-installs Cheers, ~Claw

0.24 Rescue Mission - Get Kerbal aboard the vessel
Claw replied to melisario's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
You are most of the way there! After you take control of the Kerbal, press "R" to activate the jet pack. Then you can fly him around using WASDQE and get him back to the ship. Smalllll puffs. If you hold down "W" he'll go zooming away. You can also hold the left mouse button and drag the mouse around to make him rotate. Once you get close to the ladder, press F to grab on. Good luck and welcome to the forums ~Claw -
SPH/VAB vehicle positioning woes
Claw replied to Jovus's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
No, because the location of the root part is stored within the .craft file. When you load, it will still be in the same position. ~Claw -
Feature request -- camera clipping
Claw replied to jcd's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Moved to suggestions forum. ~Claw -
I think this thread has served it's purpose. andrikyuzva, if you need further assistance, please feel free to PM a mod (like Stupid_Chris up there). Cheers, ~Claw

I could venture several guesses too, but it would be a lot easier to troubleshoot if you could provide a craft file. It's easier to figure out if I can fly instead of guessing. One thing I will say is that you should not need two tails to offset some stock lift problem. Control surfaces are buggy, but they produce lift on both sides where appropriate. I will say that at face value, it looks like your wheels are too far back. That makes me think you need excessive speed before you are able to rotate. Excessive speed can make a plane jittery, easy to cartwheel, or puts added stress on the gear making it flex. If you are using angled wings, the added downforce can make these things worse. It's also possible that the wings are flexing, which will cause gear flex issues with the wide mounted gear you are using. (.craft file?) Cheers, -Claw

SPH/VAB vehicle positioning woes
Claw replied to Jovus's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Even more annoying is that it's different in the VAB. Z points at the flag and X points out the door... Well, it's not really different coordinates but seems that way because everything is rotated. Cheers, -Claw -
SPH/VAB vehicle positioning woes
Claw replied to Jovus's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Sure, this happens more often that you'd think. There's all kinds of camera tricks you can pull (as per ninja Kasuha above), but if it's really stuck there's an easy-ish way to reset it. Go open up the .craft file (Located in your KSP_Install/Saves/Save_Name/Ships/VAB (or SPH) with a plain text editor such as notepad. (Do NOT use Word.) Maybe make a copy just in case. You are then looking for the very first part in the file. It will look something like: ship = Catalyst I version = 0.24.2 description = type = SPH PART { part = mk1pod_4294809848 partName = Part [COLOR="#FF0000"]pos = 0,5,0[/COLOR] The part highlighted in red is what you want. Change the coordinates to something like 0,5,0. That will put your root part back near the middle of the VAB. Save your edits, then load your craft in KSP (no need to restart). Then shift+click on the whole craft to pull it from the floor (or wherever). In case you need it (or care): For the SPH, imagine the coordinates are X, Y, Z. If you make X positive, it will move the craft right (when looking out the open SPH doors). If you make Y positive, it moves up. Positive Z makes it move closer to the open doors. Cheers, ~Claw
