Basic question on biig Space Plane Wings
Claw replied to davidpsummers's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Friend Bear, You might want to edit your post above so that it flows a little better. You had several posts in a row so I went ahead and merged them. If you have more info to add and it hasn't been that long, it's easier to read if you edit in new information, rather than posting many times in rapid succession. Thanks! ~Claw -
how the hell i pilot an SSTO spaceplane?
Claw replied to JtPB's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
The basic jet is no match for the TurboJet. The TurboJet is a bit imbalanced if you want to compare things to realism, but the game also lacks high performance engines like ram and scram jets. So the TurboJet sort of fills this niche. So if you want to get to space, using the basic jet is terribly inefficient when compared to the TurboJet. ...And considering the performance boost, the TurboJet doesn't weigh all that much more than the basic. Cheers, ~Claw -
I have seen plenty of save games MUCH larger than 2.5 MB. Sounds like you might have something else going on. Do these ships have control parts on them still? The game has a setting for max allowed debris. I think it defaults to 250, and past that it will start auto deleting debris. ~Claw

Crash on loading craft
Claw replied to headhunter's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
It's also possible your ship is corrupted. Were you having any other issues before this? ~Claw -
question about rocket stability
Claw replied to endl's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
To be fair, we are correct about the cupola and it's drag as far as stock craft go. Personally, I'm less aware of the settings on the mods you are using since I play mostly stock. In either case, I'm glad you got it sorted out. Cheers, ~Claw -
question about rocket stability
Claw replied to endl's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Yes, the cupola causes problems in this configuration. You will need to put more wings (top and mostly bottom) in order to control it. The cupola's drag index is set differently than other parts, causing it to have a lot higher drag. Cheers, -Claw -
[0.25] The Maximum Destruction Challenge!
Claw replied to Yakky's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Yes indeed. We moderators ("mods" if you will) were attempting to be funny by saying that we can't be used as part of the competition. [/hijack] ~Claw -
That affects the in-flight UI. ~Claw

Issues with Docking Ports - Again...
Claw replied to capi3101's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Multi-docked ports are connected a little differently in the tree structure. I'm not certain, but I think these multi-ported connections are sort of "recalculated" at times. So while a single docking port has the integrity of any other connected part, multi-docking ports react a bit differently. So what you are probably seeing is the results of the "recalculations" where the port knows it's connected and stops moving when the whole structure is reloaded. I would guess that at times the gaps may even appear different, but I haven't done much of this sort of multidocking myself. And I agree, your ring station looks great. Nice job Capi. Cheers, ~Claw -
[0.25] The Maximum Destruction Challenge!
Claw replied to Yakky's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
What about The Claw? I've been known to summon the kraken from time to time. Hopefully I'm still allowed. -
Yeah, the unfortunately the UI doesn't scale on the higher resolutions. I have no idea when this might get addressed. Fortunately, I think the only problems it causes is being very small (still functions). Edit: Also, moved... Cheers ~Claw

Question(s) about Structural Panels
Claw replied to Turk_WLF's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Depending on how OCD you want to be about it, to get them perfectly aligned you need to actually hit the exact center of the parent panel. When you do, the panel you are attaching will turn vertical. Then you rotate it so that they align. You can also be a lot less precise and still have panels attached on edge. Just depends on what you're doing and how perfect you want it. Cheers, ~Claw -
Hmm. I'm going to guess this is an add-on thing and try moving it there. Perhaps someone can help you out. Welcome to the forums. ~Claw

That's totally cool. The community can always use more help/expertise. The forum is a great place for works in progress. Hopefully you didn't miss that I said you can also edit the wiki directly. Even if you're not ready for directly changing stuff, you can update links and add more info. I'm not much of a wiki or mod creator myself, so help dabbling into this area is always welcome. Also, I've moved this to a more appropriate area so that it'll get the right attention. Good luck! ~Claw

If your aim is to repackage the wiki information, please be very clear about that. It can be insulting to some people when they see their works copied and pasted elsewhere. Also, the whole point of the wiki is for users to be able to edit and update information along the way. Feel free to get an account and update links/info up there. The better the info on the wiki, the more useful it is. Cheers, ~Claw

Kerbonauts, This topic is posted in the "What not to suggest" thread for a reason. It's already been acknowledged that female kerbals will be added. As has been stated several times on threads of this exact topic, using science and physics as an excuse for bringing up an inflammatory topic isn't justifiable. As is always the case with these topics, this thread closure isn't aimed at the validity of suggesting female kerbals but at the derogatory and inflammatory posts that have been removed. Please be mindful of others when you post. NASA has been doing studies for years. While yes, there are differences between how the male and female physique adjusts to space flight, you'd be surprised at the findings. Additionally, kerbals are not humans and deserve their own scientific discovery. Not to mention that individual skills are exactly that, individual, regardless of race, creed, ethnicity, gender, or any other trait you want to pick. Specifically with respect to several deleted posts, please do not try to twist words, quotes, or science into an excuse to belittle any portion of our Kerbal Kommunity. Respectfully, ~Claw

View contracts while constructing
Claw replied to dwleger's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Also, a little known feature in the editor or in flight is that after you open this window you can grab the bar on the border of the contract window and drag it to make it longer. Cheers, ~Claw -
Hi Affinity, Bug fixes go in the support section. If you don't mind, could you supply a picture of your ships or maybe a save file so we can check it out? You can refer to this thread, it will tell you what kind of information to include and where it's located. Welcome to the forums! ~Claw

KSP is taking 10+ minutes to load
Claw replied to MuadDib's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
That's almost always a sign that something else is interfering with KSP. I've heard that Hamachi can sometimes be really difficult to actually get rid of. Also, check your virus scanners and try putting KSP.exe into the approved/white list. -
Yes, you can go into your settings.cfg file and search for the appropriate CAMERA setting (there are many, so it depends on which one you want to set). The settings.cfg file is pretty easy to read. Just make sure you edit it with a plain text editor (such as notepad) and nothing that has formatting options (such as word or wordpad). Many of the settings in settings.cfg have maximum and minimum values when you adjust them in game. However, you can override a lot of those settings by manually editing the file. Just be aware that if you ever go into the settings page ingame, it will reset any values that are outside the min/max allowed and you'll have to manually edit the .cfg again. (And be prepared for possible strange results.) Cheers, ~Claw

You mean something like this? http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/87518-21-Jul-KSP-First-Contract-%28v0-24%29-Frequently-Asked-Questions Cheers, -Claw

Yes, the Kerbin system is laid out very differently from the "real world" Earth solar system. I would caution against trying to apply real distances and other measures against stock KSP. LEO, MEO, GEO, and all the other Earth type orbits are at completely different altitudes. Also, KSP is a patched conic simulator, and not an n-body simulator. If that doesn't mean anything to you, it basically means simplified physics. Certain things like Lagrange points do not exist. There are mods that overhaul the system to provide bigger solar systems, more "real world" representation of the Earth system, and "better" physics. I always encourage users to become engrossed in the stock game first. Once you decide what part interests you, find mods to fill that interest. If you have reached that point, then I would say Real Solar System (RSS) might also be a good mod to look into. As for setting up satellites in orbit, many people will set up a resonant orbit when releasing multiple satellites. If you don't know what those are, you can try the wiki or come back here to ask. Good luck! ~Claw

Bug on EVA, black screen
Claw replied to OgreMagi's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Yeah, this is a known problem although exactly what's causing it is still a mystery. If you figure out how to make it happen repeatedly, please let us know! Unfortunately what you did is about the only way you can recover. Usually you can wait a bit and the kerbal with automatically respawn. If not, there's some save file editing you can do to get Jeb back. Cheers, ~Claw -
Editing Docking Port Connections In Save File?
Claw replied to Franklin's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Capi, Here is the link to the docking port post. Although it doesn't cover multi-dock if that's what you are looking for. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/78863-FIX-Dock-Undocking-Bug-in-0-23-5 Otherwise you could post your specific troubles and I can try to take a look. Cheers, -Claw
