[0.90] Stock Drag Fix - Mar 19, 2015 (BETA UPDATE)
AngusJimiKeith replied to Starwaster's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
So, how does this mod affect typical ascent profile? Would I still gravity turn at ~9-10 km? Should/could I start earlier? IIRC, the main reason people turn so late in stock KSP is the drag issue, so I would think this would at least help with that. In any case, if fairing drag shielding is implemented, this'll become a must-have for me! -
They likely wouldn't have been uploading new builds over the weekend. Also, we'd probably see them change branches from experimentals back to scratchpad if they found some major bug. Looks more like they're gearing up for a release in the next few days!
-
I'd guess somewhere in the range 5 PM to 2 AM Eastern, because that's roughly when the Daily Kerbal posts are. Pure speculation. There's also some confusion on whether media release has actually happened. Some think it may have been a leak or accidental release since only Scott Manley's video has gone up.
-
Well, I wouldn't call the rest of the media team "randoms," but yes, it's easier to control what's shown. Personally, I think that if this is actually an exclusive, it was done more to build hype. It may not be an exclusive, it may be an accidental early release. We don't know.

1) As per my usual, probes before kerbals. (I keep a module manager file that, among other tweaks, allows this to be practicalin career) 2) No asparagus. It's gotten boring for me. Now it's actually a challenge to design my launch vehicles! 3) Minimal debris: stages need to come back. A rogue decoupler won't bother me. 4) No reverts/quickloads except in case of Kraken or "lemme put this on the pad to see how it works (without actually launching)" 5) No kerbal left behind. More administrative: 1) Clean out my gamedata folder! So many unused mods.... 2) And on that note...update my mods! Some are hilariously out of date...

[offtopic] Oh yeah. My kerbals are currently confused about the embargo on new missions. [/offtopic]
-
It's possible that Manley/The Mittani were given an exclusive lift on the embargo for the time being (certainly not unheard of), but I'm not holding my breath. Still have a few things to wrap up in .23.5 anyway...

The turbopump is usually a part of the engine, though some engines don't use turbopumps at all. Pump-driven engines would be the most expensive parts on a rocket for sure. (Not including payload) Regardless....fuel is dirt cheap compared to components. I hope they tweak the cost of fuel down, because it just seems like too much.

This little prototype is addicting. Love the music too. Also, the sound of the engine in atmosphere is awesome.

Majiir Mod Repo Challenge Accepted! O-Doc on Point
AngusJimiKeith replied to O-Doc's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Ok, sorry I've been silent. Its Memorial Day weekend here in the US, and it's pretty much the only time I'll have with my family until August, so I haven't really done anything. However, I have been familiarizing myself with the current code and will be able to start actual work sometime Wednesday. That said: do we have any way to communicate once the forums go down tomorrow? I know I'll certainly be wanting to communicate as I get going on my tasks. EDIT: And I can always try to grab a nice screenshot, as well! EDIT2: Testing a 40 ton lifter. I thought these looked pretty cool, but I'm no screenshot guru -

My exams are over as well; I'm free to help on this now. Any instructions? -
http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/nmc/spacecraftDisplay.do?id=1971-063D Image on this page is what they looked like. Two were released, on Apollos 15 and 16. The Apollo 16 one had a heck of a ride through the Moon's "lumpy" gravity field.

I'm sure there will be! I wish I could work on this instead of finals...I wish I could work on a lot of things instead of finals! -

(Backend) Interfaces? I can work on that! However, keep in mind I'm not free for a couple weeks. If you need it sooner, please take it on/pass it off to another volunteer. I don't want to hold the project up! -

Okay, here's the deal with me: -My final exams are done May 21. I am unavailable until then, but I wanted to jump on board early. -This will be a "free time" project for me. I have 3 projects already over the summer, which I will offer as a "resume" of sorts (All involve programming work): -This is my summer job and where virtually all of my PHP experience will come from. -Project Number 2 needs a good deal of work over the summer. Most of the coding I've done is through that project. -And this guy...(The website is sadly out of date) Our tracking system desperately needs to be replaced, and I'm working on that. -All of these projects take priority for me. That said, I should still have plenty of free time to work on KSP-related things! /shameless plugs As for experience: Thanks classes and the projects above, here's what I can offer: -I'm an aerospace engineer, not a comp-sci guy. Fair warning. -Related: Most of my programming has been in C++ and has been for RTOS (real-time operating systems). -I've "learned" PHP, that is, I've done the codecademy course on it. Experience will grow significantly over the summer with my job. -Still, PHP "feels" familiar to me. I've got the basics down. -Don't ask me to do GUI stuff. Backend? Fine. GUI? I'm terrible at it. I'd much rather let someone with more experience do that stuff. -I ask a lot of questions. A LOT. It's just how I work, and I feel I can produce better work with input. -

I have some PHP experience and will be getting more over the course of the summer due to my internship/job. I'm literally only at the codecademy level right now but I'm willing to help in spare time! -
Yeah, your understanding is correct. There have been studies with D-IV H crossfeed, but none too serious. More likely they'll put srb's on all three cores to get extra performance. I'll see if I can dig up the source for that. Even Falcon Heavy won't use crossfeed at first.

Better Atmospheres Development Thread
AngusJimiKeith replied to Thesonicgalaxy's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
I did get sleep...Doesn't change the contrast issue though. It's still there, just not as "OH GOD WHY?" now. Removing the BA atmosphere certainly makes a difference. But I like the BA atmosphere, so my one little probe down there will have to deal with it. -

AngusJimiKeith replied to Thesonicgalaxy's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Okay, so your atmosphere just accents the difference because it's so much darker than stock. The "unbearable" part probably came from the fact that I was playing in a dark room at 1 AM after a tiring day
