  1. My guess would be that the OP is still flying up to 10 km and then banking over 45 degrees and instantly flipping out. OP you have to turn way more gradually, Scott Manley among others has put together a tutorial on launching rockets in the new aerodynamics
  2. It's not a bug, it's one of the reasons they're lighter and cheaper essentially they're designed craft that will not be reentering an atmosphere, lightweight ore scanners or permanent moon bases for example. The later ones in the tech tree can be retracted.
  3. If not Duna then Eve, it's exceptionally easy to get to and land on, though taking off again is very difficult. Is a good place to hoover up some orbital science, or set up a ground base. You've also got gilly which is very easy to land on and take off from, but can be hard to get to due to a tiny gravity well next to Eve's and high inclination/eccentricity. The launch window for Duna comes up sooner though.
  4. I've been unable to replicate this, I took Jeb to minmus in a standard rocket then had him eva from minmus back to kerbin, he burned up and died complete with re entry effects at around 30ish km above the ground. It was quite a steep entry though and he did hit the atmosphere at around 3km/s
  5. True, but I've been on forums long enough to know that advertising is often frowned upon, can normally get away with adverts for the game the forum is for though
  6. GOG.com have got KSP at 25% off for £22.39 with £2.80 credit towards a future purchase to account for regional price variations (gog is awesome like that) So if you've been on the fence now might be the time, when you can pick up the game for essentially <£20!
  7. It's not quite as simple as splitting the burn time in half across the node, technically you want to split the velocity change over the node, since as you burn your craft gets lighter and thus acceleration increases.

  9. Actually the steam version of the game gives you full control. you are able to run the exe directly and bypass steam altogether. The game is completely DRM free even the steam version. I have both a 0.9 and 1.0 copy and I purchased from steam.

  11. There is a surefire way to restart any windows PC. This works on any version of windows from at least 95 and up so no matter how familiar you are with the interface or not this will pretty much always work. Press the windows key + R at the same time to bring up the run prompt Type cmd and press enter When the window loads type shutdown /r and then press enter Windows will now restart
  12. Possibly because of your radially attached boosters? The extended physics bubble now means it's possible to chute them up and have them fall safely down for recovery. It might be that, does clicking to expand it out give you any more info?
  13. No actually it's not. The only solution at the moment would be to disable fuel flow on the upperstage tank by clicking the little green triangle (you'd only need to do liquid fuel) then re-enabling it just as you stage
  14. Turn about 5 degrees immediately at launch and then follow the prograde marker. You should end up turning very gradually aiming to be at about 45 degrees at about 10km up and around 25-30 degrees at 25km up. Above this point the air rapidly thins out and by about 35km has almost no affect on your craft, you'll probably be at about 10 degrees by this point. From there it's pretty easy.
  15. Is it dead level flight? Because actually in real life even large passenger jets have managed to glide well over 50 miles after total engine failure maintaining a very slight descent path. An explanation I found I would like to add a bit of explanation. It is not the engines that keep aircraft in the air, it is the wings that generate lift as they move through the air. Whether the engines run or not does not affect the lift generation. However as the aircraft moving through air and wings producing lift cause drag that slows the plane down. The engines compensate the drag so the plane can maintain speed. But when the aircraft flies, it also has potential energy due to it's altitude (that had to be provided by the engines during climb) and that can be exchanged for kinetic energy to maintain the speed instead. The lift is significantly higher than the drag, so the plane only needs to descend quite slowly to keep flying. Glide ratio ranges from around 10 for small general aviation planes to around 60 for good sailplane. A typical value for airlines is around 18 which means from the typical cruise altitude of 10km they can glide about 180km.

  17. The memory in use is not video card memory it's RAM and is capped at 4GB by coincidence since KSP is 32bit on windows by default.
  18. Scott Manley encountered this at the end of his Interstellar Quest series, he had to warp to another star system to escape it!

  20. No such thing does or can exist. The amount of RAM a program can use is fixed by the type of architecture it uses. 32 bit programs can only ever use 4GB of RAM this is because 32bit programs can only assign values up to 4.2billion and it just so happens 4.2 billion bytes is 4GB. KSP on Windows is 32 bit, there is a 64 bit client however it has a lot of bugs, is incredibly unstable for most people and most mod developers set their mods not to activate on it. KSP on linux has a stable 64 bit client. 64 bit programs can use up to 18.4 quintillion bytes or around 18 billion GB of RAM
