  1. Ugh. Thanks for pointing out that typo. Well, the ancient romans named the planets without being able to see surface details. I agree we should hold off on naming it until we've seen it. The IAU rigged it though.
  2. Forgot Harambe memes. Like we did with all the celestial bodies in the solar system? Just don't let the people at http://nameexoworlds.iau.org name it. Checkout this proposal for Epsilon Eridani (a perfectly fine name to begin with) and its planet. "Gejalbis Our group has realized it would be a best option to create a random name with no meaning for both the star and the planet, remembering that each and every word in all languages were, in the beginning no more than a random sound to which was used to represent a concept. To give a clearer example, much before becoming the name of the biggest planet of our Solar System, “Jupiter” was only a sound that was used by the first Latins to refer to their god of the storms (and then the planet). By proposing such names, we intend to create a similar effect." "Stafar31 Considering there is no known information of how the planet looks like, only artistic conceptions, we can’t name this planet after its appearence (like Neptune, which has been named after the roman sea god because of its bluish color). Therefore, we suggest a name that has no meaning behind it with a random number" Proxima Centauri B is a fine name.
  3. I raise you one Adam Savage. "Failure is always an option" - Adam Savage, on MythBusters Unrelated to the above: "There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that “my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge." - Isaace Asimov
  4. I hope you aren't talking about failing classes. Congrats worir4! What's your major? I'm doing my senior year of HS at uni, to stay eligible for freshman admission and take some classes I haven't taken in HS, with the hope of getting admitted to MIT.
  5. Probably not the best place to ask. I'd recommend asking on StackExchange, probably the StackOverflow subsection or SuperUser sub. Also, this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9353444/how-to-use-install-gcc-on-mac-os-x-10-8-xcode-4-4 Might help even if it's old.
  6. “There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs." - John Rogers
  7. It's difficult to compare the two games, though I get where the author is coming from. A KSP/NMS hybrid that blends the sandbox nature of KSP with the art direction and procedural generation of NMS would be awesome.
  8. Alcubierre Drive. It's plausible and being looked at by real scientists (Eagleworks Labs). As far as the real-life possibility of FTL, we can't definitively say it is impossible. For all we know a 'new' physics could be developed that is to relativity what relativity was to newtonian physics.
  9. Some people refuse to accept that it simply isn't intended to be multiplayer. Hopefully my iMac can run it. I got Win10 from the uni I attend (I would say for free, but I probably payed some fee to get it). CPU and RAM should be fine, the 680MX GPU is what I'm worried about. I feel sorry for Sean Murray; he creates the game of his dreams, only to have players give planets and other things names like Planety McPlanetface. KSP has made me much more appreciative of post release game development, and the fact that content will continue to be added to NMS makes me more willing to buy it.
  10. 1/10 Doesn't fit or make sense.
  11. Quote in my sig. And this: "Too often we... enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought." —JFK
  12. Got wine? You can run Orbiter on Linux/Mac with wine (I've done it.) It's a bit complicated but it works. I just got Windows Bootcamp set up for No Man's Sky, so I may try running Orbiter in Windows to see how it performs.

  16. Ok, I wasn't aware if that, thanks for letting me know.
  17. Not sure what that has to do with anything. I was simply stating that I didn't expect a Roscosmos site to include USA and ESA achievements as well, especially given current tensions. Then again, I don't think it is actually created by Roscosmos.
