Agreed. Well, almost always. A full wipe and reinstall is the surest way to get rid of a virus, though depending on how much software one uses it can be a hassle.Remember to copy important data to another medium beforehand, and exercise extreme caution when restoring it. I'd advise not even touching it for a couple of weeks just in case there were new viruses that the scanners need to catch up with, then thoroughly scan any files you want to restore.

Granted. But you aren't a cosmonaut so you don't get to even see them. I wish for self-making food.

You Will Not Go To Space Today - Post your fails here!
cantab replied to Mastodon's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I have encountered a bug where the actual terrain fails to load properly, leaving just the map view shown. That cause me to hit something with the chutes never fully deploying. Maybe you got the same issue? -
http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/rescuedisk This is the one I'm referring to by the way. Also, I recommend removing the links from your OP, since they're almost certainly links to malware.

From a known safe computer (ie *not* the infected one) download Kaspersky Rescue CD. Burn it to a CD and boot the infected computer from it. Update the virus definitions (*essential*) and run a scan. For future security, give your brother an account that's a standard user and don't tell him the administrator password.

I would contend that tea as hot as lava is not nice :-P Granted. Your stuff was on the Cygnus that just "launched". I wish I could think of a wish.
-
Thanks, I caught NASA TV literally as it launched. It just blew up...
-
Granted. But since I don't know what your wish is, I simply grant you everything. It collapses into a black hole around you. I wish for a nice cup of tea.

Made a ship break apart from aerodynamic forces - in stock aerodynamics. And not on chute deployment either, just from aerocapturing at extreme (25+ km/s) speed with a bad orientation. It went so quickly that by the time I took the screenshot the other half of the ship was just gone. Lucky the view stayed with the important half, the bit with the Kerbals and science, which landed safely.
-
Granted. But gets stuck in your head for the rest of your life.I wish the kitchen was clean and hygienic and safe to prepare food in.

The Macbeth 1 mission to Duna, Ike, and asteroid 2 Bill that had its first launch back in April has come to its conclusion by killing Bill himself. The lander used some sepratrons to help cushion touchdown. I fired one pair a little early but landed safely anyway, but my reactions were too slow and I fired a second pair that sent it down the slope causing a crash. I think I've left him a fitting memorial though.

Granted. It's a komodo dragon. I wish I had a SpaceX Dragon.

Spaceplane vs. Rocket - Eve Rescue Party
cantab replied to Sovnheim's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
An Eve ascent is one of the biggest challenges in KSP. I suggest redesignating your mission as a colonisation and coming back to them later -
What Are You Planning/Hoping To Do In KSP In The Near Future?
cantab replied to michaelsteele3's topic in KSP1 Discussion
With the .90 announcement that it will mark the completion of career mode, I'm put off a .25 career. Once I'm done with my current missions I think I'll take a break from KSP, at least until I can get a better graphics card for my PC. -
Edit Ore Deposit To Spacecenter
cantab replied to Ryds's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
If you aren't averse to further mod use, last I checked TAC Fuel Balancer lets you fill kethane tanks when you're on the launchpad/runway. Might work for ore as well. Of course that won't help you test mining rigs but you can do the construction part. -
One sentence you could say to annoy an entire fan base?
cantab replied to Fr8monkey's topic in Forum Games!
Final Fantasy X-2 was good. And I played it. -
A practical issue with any sort of hovering vehicle is that your acceleration and braking are the same. Wheeled cars can brake much more quickly than they accelerate with brakes much smaller than their engines. A hovercar will need an 'engine' that's overkill for acceleration in order to have a stopping distance that's short enough for safety. And no, turning off the hover and dumping the car on the ground as an emergency brake isn't a good idea, because you'd have no control over the car as it skidded. Turning off the hover and dumping the car onto regular wheels equipped with steering and brakes would work, but if you're carrying around regular wheels why are you hovering at all?

Edit Ore Deposit To Spacecenter
cantab replied to Ryds's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
IIRC kethane uses a random number generator with a seed that's in the savefile. Change the seed and you change the distribution of deposits. You'd have to use trial and error until you get one that puts a deposit at KSC. -
I was interested in .25. Not "OMGMUSTPLAYNOWHYPEHYPEHYPE", but I planned on giving career mode a go after I'd done my current missions (still in .23.5, they've been taking a while!). Then .90 was announced as adding the final major element to career, upgrading the KSC. My interest in playing .25's almost-but-not-quite career mode vanished.

Granted. There are around ten thousand new parts in KSP .90, mostly just the same thing with tiny changes like a bit more fuel. There is no search or sort facility, it's impossible to add any using mods, and impossible to run the game without every stock part present. The new editor lacks the ability to copy and paste a part and resets the part list to showing the first page of the command modules whenever you've selected and placed a part. Have fun! I wish for the next poster to wish for cookies.

New to KSP & Trying to leave the atmosphere
cantab replied to ActuallyImad's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I dunno. While sure, they'll do that, I think it's better for new players to reach the key early milestones without being told what to do by a tutorial. Get to space, get to orbit, flyby or impact the Mun. These are all things one can figure out by experimentation without it taking too long. Most of the game's challenge comes from working out what to do so tutorials take away a lot of that. -
VOID is great for in-flight info, giving a HUD with two panels of orbital and surface info and two more of craft and manouvre info (not seen here), all can be put where you want on screen, as well as windows a la KER for more in-depth stuff. The HUD's more compact than the info windows of KER and Mechjeb so it doesn't get in the way.

Fine Print Flyover contracts
cantab replied to tsotha's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I've not actually used the mod, but any time I've got something that's time-consuming but requires little input from me, like a long cruise, I just stick the TV on while it's going. Depending on your plane's design and how much fuel you have you can cruise at say 200 m/s, at maybe 6-9 km altitude, in the basic jet fine. That'd get you to even the other side of Kerbin in 2 1/2 hours, which might go as low as 40 minutes if your plane and PC can handle 4x timewarp. And that's the worst-case scenario, most places are much closer. -
Android and iOS have the widest app support. I can be confident that whatever I want to do on Android, there's an app for that. Less confident on iOS because Apple tries to stop me running apps they don't approve of. But on Windows, Blackberry, or other minor OSes I really wouldn't have that confidence - any time I want to do something that's a bit obscure, specialist, or technical it's up in the air whether the right app will be available.
