  1. I'm not a mac user, but I noticed that in the log file you provided there were a number of 'UnauthorizedAccessException's. Try running the program from terminal using sudo maybe?
  2. Yes your overall energy increases, but this can be offset by the Oberth effect, depending on the exact scenario. If your burn would be complete before you reach the altitude where you would circularize, a direct ascent is slightly more efficient.
  3. Sounds to me like you need to learn the magic of transfer windows.
  4. I've found that KSP has a tendency to make common Linux desktop environments malfunction in some way or another, from the window just jittering a bunch in LXDE and XFCE4, to Cinnamon crashing outright and not being able to recover. The only DE I've found that doesn't have issues is, unfortunately, the much-denounced Unity desktop that ships with Ubuntu. If you find Unity usable, I would recommend switching to that, as I've done.
  5. The documentation on the wiki doesn't seem to have any instructions on how to develop plugins using a standalone text editor (such as VS Code). Could someone please tell me how to set up a directory with all of the resources I would need for standalone add-on development, and how to use those resources?
  6. A word about Linux compatibility: I don't know if @Arrowstar knew about this when he added the section on Linux usage (or if this even existed), but there's an official MATLAB runtime enviroment linux port available from their website. I can't check if KSPTOT itself has compatability issues with the linux version of MATLAB until sunday at the earliest, but theoretically it should run far better then trying to coax the windows version into working with WINE.
  7. I don't remember that particular flavor text, I just remember reading something about it in the devnotes way back when. I never actually tested that, good to know.
  8. It seems like your question about outsourced R&D has been answered already. As for the docking ports, i'm fairly certain the disadvantage to the Jr.'s is that you can't transfer crew between 2 ships connected by them, as you can with the 1.25m docking ports. Resources can still be transferred, and the Kerbals can still be transferred via the old EVA-from-capsule-to-capsule method, but you do lose a lot of convenience.
  9. you can attach parts radially using symmetry, remove their parent part, and reattach the parent part, keeping the symmetry of the child. I've found this especially useful for attaching landing legs on some designs.
  10. I actually used, back when I first built my desktop but before I ordered my dedicated GPU. It wasn't that bad in all honesty. My framerates were nothing stellar (no pun intended), but that's really not a big deal.
  11. Remember that RAM is only really a big issue for KSP if you install a ton of mods. And even if you do start to run short on an IGPU-based rig, there should be enough swap available to at least prevent a CTD from RAM shortages. I mean, even my $200 chromebook *can* run KSP (after installing Debian 8 via Crouton), just not above 15 fps in the VAB lmao.
  12. I think this is a great idea. The issue, however, is that i'm kinda broke atm lmao.
  13. hype for like the 5th devnote tuesday: thusday edition
  14. hell I still do this for mun encounters when i'm too lazy to make a proper maneuver node
  15. I'll try to make ships look better, but not at the cost of performance. I just never understood the form over function mentality.
  16. Ok, I figured out what was causing the issue. It's a mod conflict with the 1.1.3 continuation of the Quiztech Aero Pack. Not @inigma's responsibility to make a fix for this ofc, but I thought I'd post the cause for anyone else who's run into the issue.
  17. Despite the fact that my school doesn't even offer physics lmao
  18. If the limitations are with PhysX's math calculations, why don't you use a better integration/float system (say, from a non-PhysX library) and have the rest of the PhysX calculations be done with the value from the separate library? I don't know anything really about the PhysX backend, but it seems like something you could do. Then again, if that was possible, I guess it would probably already have been implemented.
  19. I used to be of the same opinion, but recently I've found they work pretty well if you need to add just a bit of extra TWR to a 1st stage, particularly for 1.25m early/mid career lifter designs.
  20. I don't have a naming scheme for my rockets, but for planes I use the following: KCA [stands for Kerbal Civilian Aircraft] -[number of previous designs + 1] [name of an animal]. For example, the first early career transport workhorse I designed in one career save was the KCA-01 Tahr. I've never gotten the the point where I've unlocked BDarmory parts in a career save, due to losing a mid-career save to my OS excrementsting itself, and just not having gotten around to unlocking that node in my current career save, but any future military aircraft would be named with the KCA being replaced with KMA [Kerbal Military Aircraft].
  21. These are also bugs in sandbox. In the case of the bug with planes, it just only occurs with the primitive lower-tier non-retractable landing gear used early on in career and science mode saves. You have no reason to use that kind of landing gear in sandbox, so you never notice the bugginess. As for the EVA issue, this is something I've noticed in both career and sandbox since the release of 1.1. Again, you probably just haven't noticed it yet in sandbox, since there isn't usually much reason to go EVA in that gamemode.
  22. If this thing could actually be made, i would use the excrements out of it. I currently have at least 2 hours of free periods at school, with nothing but a chromebook on my school's wifi, which blocks just about all even remotely entertaining sites (it used to block wolfram alpha, for crying out loud). But since I have Debian installed on the chromebook through the magic of Crouton, this sort of application would be a perfect time-waster while i'm not in class.
  23. I usually have a few metric ass-tons installed at any given time, but I honestly can't play without a few specific utility mods like KER, tweakscale and navball docking alignment indicator
  24. By the "swiveling rocket" I assume you mean a LV-T45 "swivel" engine test contract. Make sure all of the requirements for speed, altitude, etc. are met when you perform the part test, as not all part testing contracts are supposed to be performed from the launchpad.
