[1.0.5]AutoRove - autonomous rovermovement in the background
The Yellow Dart replied to Wotano's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
This sounds great! This might be a dumb quetions but how would one get the coordinates of a location in game? I know it tells you a landed craft's coordinates, but if it is a contract target, is there a way to get those coordinates?- 139 replies

The Earthican Flag, or "Ol' Freebie" -
We might soon see a new entry on SpaceX's employment page: Rocket Washer

Falcon9 today from a boat. Already getting it ready to move.

Yes they probably have some low thrust hydrazine motors on board and will adjust to their proper places over the next few days or weeks. I think I heard that the barge might be used again if they ever wanted to try a second stage recovery. I know I've seen a CG image or video of a second stage re-entering with a heatshield on the front, but I can't find it.

Agree!!! I have posted this a few times. Your idea is a lot like mine, but better. Seems like this should be such an easy addition for Squad but I've never hear them mention anything regarding the soundtrack. Here is my post: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/95220-easily-customized-sound-track/

Also, more on topic, I wish they would do something like this for the title screen, rather than having to load a whole scene just so I can click "Start Game" & "Resume" or whatever it says. Title screen graphics should never have loading times IMO. They should be functional and quick and not hinder me from getting to my game. Drives me crazy when it takes the game like two minutes to start, then after all that loading, there is another loading screen just for the title screen. I would rather have a static piece of artwork any day. And as for the loading screen, does it drive anyone else nuts that the outer planets of the loading animation are moving faster than the inner ones? This is KSP, the very worst place to make such a mistake. And another thing! Why do they make the Kerbals float around on the title screen like they are hovering or something? We ALL know that things in space/microgravity don't just float around in little circles because we play KSP!!! If they put little puffs of RCS from the MMU I'd be okay with it, but they don't. AND ANOTHER THING!!! WHY AM I RANTING ABOUT THIS TRIVIAL CRAP!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?! I guess I've been holding all that in for a while. Sorry.

I don't see it. Is it supposed to look like a head or something?

New Zealand is there, just hard to see. If you put the high res one on full screen and watch where it ought to be, you will see a line of clouds that isn't moving with the rest of the clouds and that is New Zealand, or at least the clouds that get caught on its mountain ranges. Or maybe it is just snow. hard to tell but there is something there.

Yeah, but the shuttle was very different animal. Reentry tiles, two sets of propulsion engines, external tank replacement, saltwater in the SRBs, much larger, and operated and maintained by NASA which doesn't help costs. This is dead simple in comparison. I'm not sure we'll get to the "cut cost of getting to space by 100-fold" mark that Musk has mentioned, but I can't imagine reuse of the Falcon9 could cost more than building a new one, especially since reuse has been a goal of SpaceX since inception and Falcon 9 was designed with that in mind.
-
While I'm pretty sure that the answer to that is yes, they built almost every part of the rocket, so testing and taking it apart will let them tweak and change things to make them more reuse-friendly, now that this first step is accomplished. I'm guessing the next one to land will be test fired and inspected, then sent up on a mock-mission with a mass simulator on SpaceX's dime, both as a test and a technology demonstrator.

Alright Ladies and Gentlemen. Time to start saving your money if you want to be part of the next migration! http://imgur.com/hCMOVn5

Anybody catch the artist of that song at the end? I only caught the title, "Flight" Edit: Nevermind I got it. Test Shot Starfish.
-
Wow, Falcon9 you made it look so easy! Beautiful! So glad I got to see that after everything that's happened.
-
Holy crap! Landing at Cape Canaveral?! I would have thought at least one successful barge landing would be required before they let it get near land or buildings or people! NASA must have a lot of faith in Musk and SpaceX! I will definitely be watching this one!

[1.0.2] Kerbal Launch Failure v1.0.0 (5/29/2015)
The Yellow Dart replied to stevehead's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Glad I found this! Looks like fun, looking forward to an update! -
Oh man, the autopilot makes you feel like a caveman banging the keys with a club. I have landed 2 out of 101, autopilot landed 6 of 7. If the machines ever take over the planet, I'm just gonna pat them on the back. They've earned it. Good find on that game, that is fun!

Good post and thread.

I agree that this is a shortcoming in KSP, I posted a suggestion a while back for a part that would allow permanent joining in orbit, requiring a kerbal on EVA to join them together. Docking ports are for temporary attachments, not for permanent constructions. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/95228-orbital-construction-part-idea/
