  1. Well thats excluding naval artillary with a range of 16 miles or certain 'howitzers' with ranges of 108 miles. lol. Or an meteorite of course could have struck something. Or a wee little person hiding up there who fortuitously chose the wrong time to light up. Dr. Evil was loitering from his supersecret chinese space hideaway and pointed his ultraprecise magnifying glass at the rocket catching the fuel on fire, just and then satiating his satism by killing a few more fire ants on a nearby ant mound. Reductio ad adsurbum.
  2. Justifies a new super sterile mission. Sterility however is defined by the lack of observable contamination.
  3. http://www.nature.com/news/mars-contamination-fear-could-divert-curiosity-rover-1.20544?WT.ec_id=NEWS-20160908&spMailingID=52252265&spUserID=Njk3NjE5NzEwNjES1&spJobID=1001480448&spReportId=MTAwMTQ4MDQ0OAS2 Nutshell, rover is to avoid areas that might have water in an effort to prevent contamination. I think it is incredibly unlikely, the salt concentration is probably way to salty and toxic minerals to allow earthen life to grow, but . . . . .
  4. Update on this. I think the problem was with the docking ports and I forgot to close the game and restart after decoupling the craft from its mother ship. The docking port issue appears to still haunt 1.1.3, I notice that engine fairing do not decouple from the ports, and characters and walk through them as if they are not there. I cannot be sure, but what did manage to work is that I pulled the gear from the lander section and put new gear on (LT-1) and it worked this time, reorbited, separated, went to space center, then reloaded the craft, no problem, gear landed at 5 m/s and could be retracted and extended without incidence.
  5. They have to make a decision whether duplicates of the same number have to be qualified in the next posting. It seems by rain-dreamers interpretation in the last correction they do. Their interpretation is not mine, mine was that if you edit a number an null it, as I did, then it was no longer a number and you could post another number. Concerning the previous revert. According to that part of the interpretation: To edit a number and otherwise nullify it meant it was no longer a number, just like text or anything else, therefore you wouldn't be following a number if you added a new post, which I did, but unfortunately the forum server updates consecutive posts by appending them. So the current interpretation is that if you post a number and its an error, you cannot delete, you cannot alter it and it cannot be followed unless you detail why it was an error and which post should be followed. If two post occurred in the same minute, then the last is valid and no error occurred, but if not, then an error occurred and the next posting should have the correct post identified. Theoretically a duplication should not be a problem, since it is not ambiguous which number is being followed, either could work, but that is not explicitly stated.
  6. Thats part of the business, if the operators don't already know the risk, then they should not be in the business. This conversation has become pedestrian.
  7. The lander isn't really that big, the last time I landed the touchdown velocity was 1.5 m/s. Poof. When I went to the space center, the lander had dissappearred. This was a fresh load of the game after insertion into munar orbit. Previous to that 6.5 m/s. Poof. and then gear dissappearred. Has to be a bug.
  8. Well you assume they would have bought it, some companies self insure or assume a high deductable.
  9. Not neccesarily, there are three parts to the corner that converge.
  10. N1 and N2 are rated at 100 maximum. This is not endurance rated but safe rated. That means that over the life of an aircraft it is expected the the turbines will warp to the point that at N1 or N2 the turbines will fail.. There are circumstances where pilots have gone over these, it does not mean that it was unsafe, but it would be for continued operation. The endurance N1 and N2 are at about 80%, but this is seldom a goal since other parts will wear out and typically over the life of a long lived commercial jet the engines will be replaced anyway for other reasons (regulation, fuel efficiency), after all a jet engine is nothing but a big kerosene burner with a huge operating cost. i believe that N2 is coomonly experienced max during the rotation and climbout. This is when the craft is burning the most fuel. N1 is more often experience near coffins corner, this is because the air is thin the aircraft is moving fast . These are different maxima for different turbines inside the engine. The set turbines are not the same some have three shaft. I believe that N1 sets the flight celing for any given weight, not sure.
  11. Its a goof. Last good. My error, did not get marked.
  12. Sorry they were not posted at the same time, it was just a goof. The person that followed my last post also goofed sign and direction of change conflict.
  13. In that case i errored here. Orrect value should be -80.
  14. Its not one guy, your as bad as gpisic.
  15. Yeah thats the problem with the interface. You can't really control the outcome of two successive postings. But a deeper problem exist, because the rules create a big delimna. A false post is essentially jibbereish, i coukd have edited the previous to text, and then reposted (and maybe the stinking editor would not have appeneded) in which case the rule would extend as far as saying you cant post a statement and then follow with a number change. for example i posted a message, then posted a number, on one occassion it did not count as an edit but then i refreshed at a later time and it did. So the rule basically mean you cant post anything and follow it with a number.
  16. Kurtosis is the forth root of some sort of deviancy. You can be skewed but not kurtotic, kurtotic but not skewed but in either case if values deviate more than a unit from the expected your distribution is abnormal. Ironically it does not infer fault in the distribution, just any comparative statistics that might be performed on it. This is why classic physics and quantum mechanics ultimately cannot be reconciled. That and 42.
  17. The radiation is much less of a problem than the complete lack of air in the belts. Short exposure to much higher doses are not too much of a problem, chronic exposure to highe doses is a problem, because cells have to replicate through damage DNA whereas short exposures tolerate repair. This is for ionizing radiation, for atomic radioactivity thats a diiferent story. The radiation belts take out some of the higher energy cosmic radiation alot of it still reaches the earths atmosphere. If you are traveling from Earth to mars you major concerns are going to be the interstellar cosmic radiation and the occassional solar magnetic storm, which can be avoided when passing through the radiation belts by timing the departures.
  18. The attitude is notably ignorant. Its not about proving whether it works or fails, its about observation. Ignorance leads the result of an experiment with a conclusion.
