Same problem now with a minmus lander. There is enough time to manually put it upright before it hits the ground but this is game breaking. When switching to an allready landed vessel or reloading a gamestate with a landed vessel, then when physics kick in that vessels start a few meters above the ground in a tilted attitude. I cannot imagine landing on duna or any other planet with this game behaviour. Mod list hasn't changed, some were updated in the last days, so everything is up to date on my side. Any questions, data, from squads side to us players ? Edit: Probably one of the mods. More later ... testing ... Editedit: Guys with the same problem, can you confirm that the culprit is RealPlume/Smokescreen ?

Morning. So this was moved, good idea. @Padishar thanks for the link. The dll loads successfully according to the log but i seemingly can't open the program's window. Which could be bacause of the keyboard i use, or kezboard as they write in some aereas :-) My ' is at the position where the english = is, but mod-' doesn't open the window. The = is shift-0 but the mod-key is the right-shift-key so it might be that mod-= (which would be mod(rightshift)-shift-0 on my keyboard) can't be recognized correctly. Or is it nonsense what i'm writing ? :-)

Sorry guys, sunset. Must go to a pub now. Padishar, pls read my doubts about the framerate. Unfortunately the native nvidia driver doesn't show me the actual framerate, i would think ksp is the only other process that would be able to tell if it wanted to tell. I would say it's lower than 25, but not much. This is debian linux 8, kernel 3.16, all 8 cores @3.8Ghz.
-
Build 1473: same, but the framerate shown in the mod-f12 window is fixed (no green line, no slight changes). Seemingly rates below 25fps are not shown .... ? Or am i missing something ? Lights on and whole part it's framerate is around 30, slowly dropps to 25 and then frameratecount seemingly stops ...
-
Hmm, now that you mentioned it i measured (though strictly it doesn't belong here). I haven't played much 1.1.3 but 1.0.5. To be precise, fast atmospheric flight with supersonic effects below 40km causes the framerate to drop, from ~60fps (i limited it because monitor frequency) to ~30. That is certainly acceptable for a mildly complex 4 stage rocket. When i last launched that same craft it felt like the framerate was much lower (in the 10s). Surely the ascent profile was slightly different (and i updated mods from 1.2pre to 1.2 release); but seemingly my feelings fooled me. So, to say it loud&clear(tm), when measured the peformance is nicer than when felt :-) The first huge station will reveal more.

Console Patches Update Discussion
Green Baron replied to James M's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (Console)
romeowhiskeyoneninereightfour (aka angry bird): we've been through this before, no need to overcook this and mere venting will not change anything. Get a pc-version (it's stable and fun !) or play something else until things are fixed. -
With a series of tries i managed to get the ship to touch down on it's legs without tipping over. Then i unloaded the rover. No, when i swicth to the rover, the rover does the same: it starts 5m above the ground in an angle of about 30°, then drops. No problem, it's flat enough not to tip. But either the rover inherited from the ship or the problem is not craft dependant ... Mun, east farside crater.

/home/kemde/KSP_linux_120/saves/Space Cowboy/Kopie von persistent.sfs ... means "Copy of persistent.sfs"

Hi, after i switch to a before successfully landed ship i am able to see it standing upright for a second, then it's translated several meters above the ground in an unrecoverable attitude and falls to the ground. New kraken species :-) ? Edit: the translation seems to happen when physics start. Ship: mods: Edit: Mod list not showing part mods: KW Rocketry, Lithobrake Exploration, MRS. Last log file lines from scebe change: Maybe anyone has an idea ... ?

New Eastereggs ?
Green Baron replied to Green Baron's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
... with green and black squad emblem. Really ? Generated on game start ? -
Hi, this is KSP 1.2. I didn't play much since 1.0.5, so maybe the below is an old thing. Nevertheless, this concerns a possible new easter egg inside Kerbin's SOI. Since nobody else has asked before, if you have found something new as well then read on. Exact position on request. :-)

For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread
Green Baron replied to Skyler4856's topic in Science & Spaceflight
A study suggests the hypothesis that, if bacteria can survive kilometers below the earth "feeding" on radioactivity, chances are they could as well under the surface of bodies in space, "feeding" on radiation. I personally find this very far fetched. Noone can really confirm or reject this (right now) .... -
This was my first addictive PC game. Yeah, the faction leaders are nice stereotypes, almost comic style. Well done by the game creators :-)

[Input desired] Preparing a new college class for Fall 2017
Green Baron replied to adsii1970's topic in The Lounge
Including Kant of course. He wrote even more about space ... If you take Egyptians than don't forget Babylonians. Problem with those peoples (including southern American prehistory) at the fringe of history is that too much "knowledge" went through too many hands to teach in a thoroughly prepared educational class (imho). Might lower the level ... best suited for Discovery channel ... :-) Depends what you want to teach :-) Eeehmmm ... Star Trek ? Well ... no comment :-) Just suggesting. I don't know how big your class is and what level to expect, but in my eyes, the more facts, the less fiction, the clearer the picture, the better the understanding. That's why i suggested renaissance on the one side, the first "free thinkers" after the antique, rooms full of literature documenting the buildup of our view of the world, and the modern stuff, math and physics, theory and practice on the other hand. Dry theory and things that make a noise when they 'splode. Have fun, it's surely a thrilling subject. Almost as thrilling as prehistory [fun]Need someone for the opening lecture ?[/fun] Cheers- 25 replies

Yes, you are right with the distinction of solvent and base. I didn't want to go that deep, just encourage OP to do further research on the subject. And thanks for the hint that CH4-diluted life wouldn't build up an O2-atmosphere. See, one must allways have a broader picture to judge the credibility and a single change can pull a rat's tail of reengineering behind ... :-) Edit: @KerikBalm: You thougt i thought vulcans do exist ? Got you :-)
-
All the elements life uses are based on efficiency of use and availability. They (C, O, Fe, Ca, H) all are abundant in space in what is built in earths metabolisms is very well/best suited for the job. Reality: Methane as a "base" is difficult to imagine. Some bacteria can metabolize methane, either as "input" or as "output". Nevertheless they are carbon based lifeforms like every life on earth is. That is because carbon simply is the best fit element for life(tm) and it is abundant (in space). Other possible, but less reactive base elements could be silicon (like @KSK said) or sulphur, but Fantasy: "organisms" on that base would most probably not walk around but rather sit on a mountain and watch the millennia pass (silicon) or nest near a volcanic vent and lament the cold season (sulphur) :-) Red blood: that is because our muscles need oxygen as an energy supplier and oxygen is best bound by iron (haemoglobin). So red blood would belong to an organism that uses iron as a means to transport oxygen to the muscles. Other possibilities to bind oxygen are less effective or rarer (copper comes to mind- green blood of the vulcans :-)). The bind must not be too strong or too much energy is needed to break it up. Also, the vertebrate's lungs are highly effective in exchanging O and CO2, other organs like tracheae of insects are less effective. Insects had their time in the carboniferous, when atmospheric oxygen level was much higher than today they grow to lengths of a meter. But then again, a high atmospheric oxygen level means that a single lighting strike can light a fire that lasts until everything has been oxygenised -> carboniferous coal. So, what i want to say, converting something (or -one) to fit a selected environment is not easy if it shall look credible, since the whole organism must be taken into account. Study the "models" we have and had on earth and their supposed environments and lifestyle. It's hard to imagine something that is supposed to be totally different without using a lot of fantasy :-) In your fanatsy, yes. But if it shall be credible, then there are limitations depending on material, environment and processes :-)

Thank you. My favourite rocket parts mod ... i'm off to the planets. Edit: Ok, @linuxgurugamer, i have time today and will tag the engines. -
Possible evidence of cellphones affecting human brain found
Green Baron replied to Darnok's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Ehmm, then the search was too quick :-) Back on topic, this was about magnetism and a possible sense in humans to sense magnetism, like some birds or fishes can. Magnetism. Not electromagnetism. Two different explanations of how such a sense could work in an organism have been proposed. @Darnok, would you consider changing the thread title ? -
[Input desired] Preparing a new college class for Fall 2017
Green Baron replied to adsii1970's topic in The Lounge
1.) If you want to keep it historical: I'm a European, i voted Galilei and the European renaissance and a little later. Until Immanuel Kant. There are mountains of literature, much is available in english, historians have scrutinised every single word so you have a good chance of being able to anser every question that aries. Also you could give seminar-like tasks to your pupils, letting each one work on a subject or person, depending on the level. Mayas, Aztecs etc. haven't influenced our (mine) culture and information is sparse. Too few facts, too much legend. Asians ... well if you're an Asian ... is there enough literature to work on ? German pre WWII ... nah ... let's keep it civil :-) I'm German, that's why i like Renaissance :-) 2.) If the focus is actual space exploration then of course the practical things, from Ziolkovsky via the first theoretical things to reaching orbit (side note WWII) and the moon. Commercial sattelites, and the new trend reusablity and private companies. Enough to work on, no ? :-)- 25 replies
