Just interesting discussion from my end. Thinking of how a dual-use storage space could really work, and a somewhat realistic idea of the storage space that it could have. Fiddling around with the details is more complexity than I would really like ingame. I make sure the motors are pointed at the ground, Latching the capsule door before takeoff is the little green guys' problem.

I may (By may I mean definitely) have been unclear - Solid wall pressure vessel for sure, with a flexible liner inside that for the liquid storage. Start with the liner folded up against one side when the tank is empty, and the entire interior volume can be filled with either the liner bag filled with liquid or solid stuff packed in the can but outside the liner (Through that hatch in the back), or some combination of the two. The idea is however many liters of cold storage with any proportion of solid/liquid possible up to the full volume of the container. Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Reliance-Products-Poly-Bagged-Fold-A-Carrier-Collapsible/dp/B001QBZI90/ref=sr_1_71?s=outdoor-recreation&ie=UTF8&qid=1402797902&sr=1-71 collapsed inside the can with the fill line plumbed in through the wall. Enough to keep liquids under control, and solid garbage can just be stuffed through the hatch into the (dry) empty space inside the can. The liner shouldn't have to hold any significant pressure. If it ever did the rest of the storage space would be blocked by it. Slight negative pressure would keep it collapsed against it's contents.

As far as grey/waste water storage goes - Might make sense to keep a distinctive shape to keep them easier to tell apart. Might need larger-volume greywater tanks IRL anyways, and cylindrical tanks help with that. As far as keeping them liquid goes, some pretty thin MLI and a little electric heater may do. It might make sense to let some waste tanks freeze anyways to limit leakage problems in storage as long as you can still get stuff into them. An occasional thaw-out for transfer to reprocessing/garbage disposal might be reasonable. IIRC, some of the more-solid stuff has to be refrigerated anyways so that bags of ...stuff don't generate gas and eventually pop. A storage drum with a hatch in the back could be used for both if it had an expandable bladder for the liquid on the side away from the hatch.

Yes, Meant RAID-1. Keep seeing Volume 0, Raid 1 every boot. Must have stuck in my head. What can I say, Some days I count like Jeb flies rockets.
-
Also, If the board supports it (or you install a card) Raid 0 is your best friend. A drive melts down and it's just 15 minutes plugging in the new one and a couple hours slow access as the array rebuilds. Next week, when you have time to pick up a drive and do it. Runs fine with one dead, just needs fixing sometime before the second quits.

Well, That sucks. I'm just getting back up after an unscheduled computer upgrade myself. I hope it wasn't contagious.
-
Sometimes less is a whole lot more - Looks great, especially stacked.

I was hoping for a pointer to the right spot to make the changes myself. Just un-comment some lines? Awesome. That's about perfect.

If you make the cargo wedges un-grabbable, Would there be a simple way to undo that? It makes sense to set them that way and avoid unexpected problems, But I'd really like all the wedges to be movable. Something that had to be intentionally changed to permit that would avoid problems with people unknowingly running into buggy behavior without permanently locking the wedge in place for someone who knows there could be problems if they're not careful.
-
Yes, Very nice doors. They open waaaaay up without being very large themselves. Wonderful work there. Though I wonder if the wedge with the sepratrons could do with a "No smoking" sign. Just in case. Not that anything could go wrong, Right?
-
Wonderful looking work. I'm inclined to quote Jayne Cobb. The extra-wide door is going to be really nice for a cargo bay. if this is the quality of what you do, Please take as much time as you need. It's well worth the wait.

Having part of those sliding hinge/locking blocks flush with the outer skin of the door and maybe popping out a bit when they slide out would make some of the interior-only stuff more visible. Sensible when the mechanism has to fit in a really thin space, and it's not like they would be airtight or anything. No bugs to keep out either. Anything even slightly plausible is going to look a lot better than "Must be a hinge there - The door swings right around that little empty space." Maybe add a couple of locking pins that would be pushed out into the doorframe/other door when closed? Wouldn't even have to move - It's only visible on the interior side of the door when it's open.
-
Anything cam-driven would be pretty much stuck at one speed - Add really short (can't even see them) lever arms to move parts with and The loads on the hinges cold be pretty high. The doors ripping the hinges off when they stop swinging makes for an implausible "undocumented feature". Making it bulkier, heavier, or slower would help that. Hurry up and wait is the simplest option. Opening most doors IRL much faster doesn't do them any favors. TL,DR: Speed looks good to me. edit: typos

An upside-down THIS SIDE UP stamp somewhere would fit right in.
-
Love the cardboard boxes in the storage wedge - The labels especially are a nice touch.
-
Another wedge that holds water? If it's a conformal tank inside the wedge for more volume that's what I was thinking of anyways. Realistic weight, Reasonably heavy and movable weight between tanks for tweaking balance better than just shuffling wedges around.
-
Wouldn't kill me to grab a likely looking model - Maybe the RCS wedge? Something mostly solid, And try changing up the texture some and beating on the thing until it thinks it's a battery. Probably won't look like much, But as long as it works. I'm kinda inclined to ty out a ballast wedge also.
-
Nice! Always thought it was a bit of a bummer the internal models weren't seen more - Both as easier to ID different wedges and plain old eye candy. They really do look good. Any chance of a model for a battery wedge to go with the fuel cell +water splitter setup to reduce how often the fuel cell needs to be run to keep stuff powered? Possibly just a placeholder model to keep things consistent if you'd rather someone else finish it up looks-wise?

Universal Storage 1.4.0.0 (For KSP 1.4.x) 13th March 2018
Chris_Pi replied to Paul Kingtiger's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I don't think I screwed up the math, But someone might want to double-check... To add a bit to what CoolBeer said about double-height wedges: Stretching the tanks to twice current length would add 7.238L volume each by reducing the space lost to the spherical endcaps between the stacked wedges. If the pressure gauge/regulator/neat gadget in the bottom half of each wedge can be swapped out for another single-height tank the total added volume is 43.428 liters more than a pair of current wedges. That looks very worthwhile, both from a standpoint of reducing parts count and getting more storage volume by picking the right parts for the job. ETA: Yep, screwed that up pretty good. Added volume is 3.619 L/tank. Not quite 30 liters extra with a 5th tank added. Not spectacular, But maybe still worthwhile.
