  1. It all has to do with the fiscal calendar they work with. Research and new tests and projects begin and get go-aheads after the yearly budget is approved.
  2. We'll be sending several billion such ants, trained, in little nano spacesuits, to terraform Mars.
  3. This should be interesting. So I suppose now AOA will become an issue?... how will skip-off be handled? Will orientation be an issue as well?... will capsules receive proper modifications for heat shielding? And the implications for aerobraking? And you're planning on putting a woman at the helm?!? *sorry ladies* Madness. Just madness.
  4. I was at work when it happened. I didn't find out about it until the end of the day when I met with some friends at a cafe for coffee. When I walked in, they were discussing it... and I was like "WHAT?!?!?"... it was instant shock. During the course of conversation, I made a comment about how Revell shuttle models will now become valuable collectables. My friend jumped up at the idea and immediately ran out to a hobby store and bought the biggest Revell model of the shuttle they had. When he returned a half-hour later, he told us that already the store had many people running in to buy models. Us guys, of course being guys, decided we should build the model right there and then. My friend opened the box and dumped the contents out on the table... and he sat there a moment and stared at it... and then finally told us and said "Leave it. I'm going to leave it just like this." It took a moment to sink in. Talk about a 'wow' moment. o_0
  5. If you're referring to the ones at the top of the screen, in Tracking Station and in Map mode: No, I do not... which is to say, I don't have Probes or Ships toggled off - just 'Space Objects' is off. Yes and No. I attempted to migrate from v0.25 to v0.90 when it came out, but the mods (SCANsat especially) were not working... and indeed, I did lose ships (two of them). Once the mods were ready for v0.90 I installed them... I essentially started my Science_sandbox over, from the beginning, building all new ships. On that note, I'm kind of sighing here, because I can see already that when v1.0 comes out, I'll be starting over yet again.
  6. Well, my Max Persistent Debris is at the default, which I believe is 250... but I have very little debris, as I clean it regularly. As for a default number of objects, if that is a setting other the debris; I don't know. Let's see... {goes and checks}... I've currently got 12 probes, 1 ship, 3 stations, and 65 'space objects'. That doesn't sound like I'd be exceeding anything; Then again, I don't know what that default count is. - - - Updated - - - As for time-warping, I do a good bit of it, but I juggle with it. I've 2 probes on their way out to Jool at the moment, plus the science probe I just sent (arrived) to Moho... plus a manned Mun mission which, for now, is docked at its Mun station. I jump around, sometimes time-warping, sometimes killing time with short local missions (with minimal time-warp to get to Mun/Minmus and back).
  7. Likewise, NJ USA. What exit, timsfitz? lol
  8. I'm running Win8.1, KSP v0.90.0 in Science_sandbox, with current Lazor (Romfarer) and SCANsat mods installed. This is the second time in v0.90.0 that I've lost a SCANsat probe in orbit around Moho. The first had finished the low-res scanning, at 250km, and was left in its circular polar orbit; It just disappeared one day, last seen on Dec 26 2014. I put a second SCANsat probe up and allowed it to finish the hi-res scanning, at 750km, and then parked it back down in a circular polar orbit at 250km. It disappeared at some point today, Jan 27 2015... either that, or yesterday. It was there yesterday when I began a new science probe journey to Moho. I noticed today, coming in for Moho orbit intercept, that it was gone. I've checked the Persistent.sfs file, but the probe is not there... just the accomplishments are. I'm wary of doing Moho missions now, of leaving anything parked in orbit. This is the only body I've had such problems with thus far. Why does this keep happening? Is this a 'bug' that should be reported to the Devs?
  9. This thread has me wondering what the age demographics of KSP players is ... seems we've got folks here of all ages. Any other 'seniors' out there, 55+ "Space Cowboys", playing? lol
  10. Actually they put those big glass panels in so the bosses could keep an eye on that maniac truck/lorry driver who feels he must constantly race around the grounds at unsafe speeds. *edit* ...and I want to see an update inside the VAB, all those Kerbal engineers getting mowed down by moving vehicles; Should at least show them splatted or limping around or something.
  11. Well, you beat me to it, because I'd have picked the same. But I'd also go with Shepard's and Glenn's flights, the excitement of the 'beginning'. I'm also a big fan of the Voyager missions... as nobody ever expected them to last as long as they have, especially with the crude technology (by today's standards) used at the time.
  12. I've built a few Ion craft, small scale stuff, worked quite well. The large scale ventures hit similar problems as mentioned, power, and part count. I'd like to venture more into Ion craft, but I'm deterred without access to larger Xenon tanks.
  13. I've seen it turn blue once also, but I forget what the issue was. There doesn't seem to be any mention anywhere about it. the documentation - - - Updated - - - I also have a question... Is there any reason for leaving a satellite up in orbit with scanning active once the body orbited as been 100% scanned? Does the BTDT scanner need it, or does it read from your scanned maps?
  14. Got my SCANsat on its way to Jool, and so begins the Jool mapping missions. Finished up my Mun rover missions. Put a little over 200km on the last ride... very pleased with the rover's performance, I'll be using it on Minmus next. Check out these three, hamming it up for a picture before heading home...
  15. You should have this person seen by a qualified neurologist. They can determine cognitive level. I am the primary caregiver for one of my parents, advanced dementia, rated a 3 on a cognitive scale (0 to 30). It's very similar to managing a 1-year old.
  16. Any decent lab with spectrography equipment could tell them what the 'mysterious' goo is... likely for a lot less than the $8000 per day they're spending for cleaning the birds.
  17. I find that if I wait until my reentry speed falls below 300m/s, the chutes don't rip the ship apart.
  18. I use an AA battery, it's just enough weight to hold a key down on this laptop.
  19. My uncle worked for / did some work for NASA a long, long time ago. He also co-authored a book called "How Far A Star?", in conjunction with NASA, for teaching kids in school... it's no longer in print. He sits here with me daily, our evening coffee chit-chat, and watches me build and launch. Does that count? I've mentioned this in these forums before - my other uncle (his oldest brother, RIP) was the guy who designed the illuminated zero-G toggle switch (Daven Corp.) used in the Apollo series capsules ... I had stated they were used in the Gemini series as well in my first mention, but have since learned that was incorrect (so correction is served here). I also used to work with a guy who had been a QC inspector for two of the shuttles built (1st and 3rd). Engineers are a strange breed of being. So are programmers... that's my excuse. lol
  20. This kind of reminds me of when the arcade video game machine Asteroids first came out (1979)... it cost 25 cents (US dollar) per game (you got 3 ships). People would see if they could play for 25 minutes or more, to get their money's worth. You were considered "cool" if you could (lol). Another goal was to quit the game (die) with the point counter at 99,999 ... so your initials always stayed top on the 'best list'... also added to your "coolness".
  21. You forgot to mention that urea, a chemical found in urine, is used in making explosives. So not only can pee be used for rocket fuel and drinking water, it helps with some nifty explosions as well.
  22. Is your printer auto-scaling the image to fit the page? *edit* You do realize that after rescaling the image (going from 1/144 scale to 1/100 scale), the page size increases (via Gimp) from 8.5 x 11 to 12.16 x 15.87, yes? You may have to print sections of each page, the individual parts, if your printer only handles 8.5 x 11 sheets.
  23. I've never tried it before, but can you save the image (extract it) from the PDF? If not, you could always view it whatever full size is offered and then use something like Gimp to do a screen capture... then you can rescale the image to whatever you want. *EDIT* Forget that. Here's what I did. I downloaded the PDF file. Started Gimp. In Gimp, I opened the PDF file... Gimp will allow you to import all of the images or a single page at a time. Then just rescale the image.
