An orbit will always have to pass over the "middle" of a parent body. But if you give an orbit a (high enough) inclination and the parent body is rotating, you will eventually fly over all parts of the parent body. You can't have a "level" orbit at high (or low) latitudes. EDIT: That is, the only "level" (I assume you meant 0 degrees of inclination) orbit wrt the parent body is an equatorial orbit.

Sure, but the lid they add on top of the heat is MUCH smaller than continuing to burn fossil fuels. Heat itself isn't so much the issue, insulation is. It's a sad fact that we had developed and deployed the technology to prevent this happening in the 60's (controlled nuclear fission(*)), but ironically the greenies "save the earth - no to nukes" movement has now doomed us to large-scale environmental changes. (*)Not saying this technology is the bee's knees, there are definite issues, but overall it's the best and cleanest that we have Right Now for large-scale industrial power generation.

I've been trying to isolate this issue as well. My prime suspect was an interaction between CLS and SM as I was only ever able to repro with both installed at the same time, and even then not consistently. Main issue is that whenever I got a slowdown there was nothing in the logs to pinpoint anything. But it definitely is triggered by spawning a flag, or KAS-attaching parts, both of which, I think, are briefly marked as Debris". Simply flying in range of another vessel does not cause any issues.

But we ARE doing something. We ARE polluting the hell out of our planet. Of course we're not 100% sure what the consequences will be, the environment is a very complex set of systems, but we DO know that there WILL be some. So by your own argument what you're saying is that we should STOP doing what we are doing (polluting our environment) until we can fully understand the ramifications? (YouTube) I came across last year, which shifts the question of whether or not WE are causing climate change to one of risk management. Not entirely sure of the delivery, but the core argument is food for thought.

Hmm, last I checked, quite a large proportion of the western goods are produced in the east. We've merely moved production somewhere cheaper - cheap labour, and cheap (and dirty) manufacturing. Basically, it's OUR pollution which we've off-shored. And if the west was more willing to share advanced designs (power generation; manufacturing plants) with those countries who actually do our manufacturing for us, maybe they'd build less polluting infrastructure? As for stopping man-made climate change (as opposed to the standard natural variation which we also have to deal with) - yeah, too late for that. But we CAN prevent it from getting worse by cutting down on emissions. Only because we're now committed to X meters of sea-level rise and Y degrees of average temperature increase doesn't mean we should just throw our hands in the air and keep polluting - we can still stop things going from bad to worse.

I asked Albert about adding it to CKAN and he agreed. I've sent a pull request off to the CKAN team so should be available soon. But yes, the mod needs a little TLC; and I'd love to see where Albert was going with it. Unfortunately with the license the way it is, people can post patches and make tweaks in their own copy, but not create and distribute an updated mod.

While you're at it, could you please add support for the K2 capsule? http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/104925-0-90-K2-Command-Pod-Two-Kerbal-stock-alike-pod -
The Linux Thread!
micha replied to sal_vager's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
I've seen this mentioned in a couple of other threads, but not seen it myself (yet). People report that re-starting KSP fixes it, so it seems to be a bug in the loader code which sometimes blows up. -
Antenna Range (simplified RemoteTech) and ScanSat are 2 brilliant mods which give satellites purpose while. Sorry no links due to phone..

1990, first year of Uni for me, and the first year of the WWW. Before that BBS's. I still miss Usenet (NNTP, netnews,or just news). Was -way- better than the www-based forums these days where you have to a) be online, and have to have a separate login for every single bleeding one. Offline based reading FTW - yes, even these days (planes, etc anybody?). Our Uni already had X-Terminals, so got to see a graphical web browser pretty much as soon as it got developed. Replaced all the other hyperlinked systems (archie, veronica, etc) quicksmart. And because in Australia local calls are billed on connection and not time, I had internet access at home too - call in to the Uni on my 2400baud (fast at the time) modem through my Amiga. Spent most of the first years on email, usenet, and MUDs. My first homepage was on GeoCities (Oh! Those blink tags and neon-coloured pages everywhere!)

Glad things are working better for you now! Btw, you don't have to replace Cinnamon to install XFCE - you can install both and then select which one you want for a particular session from the login screen. That's what I do - WindowMaker when I want to play KSP, and KDE when I want to do standard desktop stuff. Can't wait for my 8GB of RAM to arrive next week, and a "new" CPU - a Phenom II X4 965BE. I know, ridiculously slow by modern standards, but should be a nice boost from my current X2 240. Might stay in KDE after that, although tbh I've always had a soft spot for WindowMaker.. -
Hi N3h3mia, I just found a page which might have some ideas for potential logos: http://www.nasa.gov/content/explore-the-diverse-ecosystem-of-experiments-being-researched-on-iss/#.VO8Wy_nEepU Of course the human silhouette would need to be replaced by a kerbal one, and "Nehemia Engineering" added somehow, but as a basis, what do you think?

The Other Linux Thread

It looks like the window isn't getting focus. Tried alt-tabbing to it? Tried running it full-screen instead? Afraid I've never had that issue; for me KSP just installed and ran without issue on Debian x64, initially using KDE but now in WindowMaker. -

Hi Eleven, Unless you have a misbehaving app, pretty much the primary reason for excessive HDD access it swapping. Be aware that KSP0.90 does have a few memory leaks - so if you play with a lot of mods, or for extended sessions you may see your memory usage climb until you're swapping. I generally run "htop" in a terminal window and monitor memory usage, if it gets too high, I restart KSP. Annoying, but hopefully the devs will fix it for 1.0. My KSP tends to top out just shy of 4GB, around 3.7 or so, and that's with quite a reasonable collection of mods. Another thing to try is to use a leaner desktop and close all non-essential programs. My system only has 4GB of RAM installed and I manage just fine, swap stays under 1GB and only hits the HDD when I switch programs (as it should be). As well as KSP I run 1-2 instances of MonoDevelop, and a bunch of browser windows. I do use WindowMaker as my desktop (it's -very- minimal, try XFCE for a lean but more familiar UI). -
Count me as voting for a separate mod. I really like the ShipManifest functionality, but TBH haven't used the Crew features much/at all. That may change, but since the two features appear to be quite distinct pieces of functionality it makes sense to me to separate them out into their own mods. Apart from that, great work!

If you're not keen on the command line, Ark is a WinRar/7-Zzip equivalent in KDE (you said you're using Kubuntu). File Roller if you're using Gnome. The respective one should have been automatically installed, and double-clicking an archive in Dolphin (KDE's file browser) should open it. alternative.to is a good website to use to find the Linux equivalents to Windows software. I've pretty much switched over to using CKAN for mod management. It covers the biggest/most used mods, and you can still manually install any other mods. -

Check to make sure you've got the latest driver for your video card. For nVidia cards you want the actual driver from nVidia, NOT the opensource one. For AMD and Intel (built-in gfx) you want the latest opensource driver. Plenty of online HOWTO's telling you step-by-step how to check and install - make sure you find one for your actual distro (Linux Mint) rather than generic for best results. Secondly, check to see if you've got "half resolution" textures enabled in KSP settings. That will reduce the fidelity of icons as well, although it should be affecting all of them not just some of them. -
One thing I've seen a couple of times is requests for city textures on Kerbin. Please NO! Why you ask? Well, because people would of course (crash)land in a city. And if said city was then just a flat smear of pixels on the ground instead of a huge set of nice 3d buildings with vehicles and Kerbals ambling about it would be FAR more jarring to the consistency of the environment. I like it just the way it is now, until if/when it can all be believably procedurally generated. Until then I'm happy to believe that Kerbals live primarily underground with the majority of their infrastructure. Which is why I don't really like the all-too-human look of the space centre and wish the models could be replaced by modders. (something I've mentioned before). For me, it's all about the consistency. Clouds would be a nice (optional for the low-gfx-card users) addition though.

segfault's are not linux-exclusive. It's short for "Segmentation Fault" and it's a program bug to do with trying to access an invalid memory location. On Linux, the error printout starts with "segfault", hence the name. On Windows you would get a window pop up with a "General Protection Fault" message instead. Same bug, different way to notify the user. As for whether or not to bother with Linux, these days it's pretty trivial to install and try it out, especially from a Live CD (although it'll be a bit slower that way). Go for one of the more user-friendly distros like Ubuntu or Linux Mint and it's no more difficult (and often easier) than installing Windows. Usage is a bit different, but doesn't take long to get the hang of it. -
Fully agree! In fact, personally I prefer a slightly more cartoony or abstract art style as long as it's consistent. The more realistic a game looks the more it suffers from the "Uncanny Valley". For example I have no issues believing a purple ocean in a cartoon-ish world, but in a realistic world I'd be questioning why it's purple. Or I have no issues with the way cartoon-ish characters behave (movement style, speech, etc) whereas in a realistic game I'd be annoyed and jarred out of my sense of disbelief if the animation was less than "human" or the lipsync not quite matched up. On the whole I think KSP looks just great the way it is; I've certainly enjoyed some fantastic sunrises and various glamour shots, and I would MUCH prefer the developers to concentrate on adding/extending features / bug fixing / optimising, than making sure the grain of wood on the window sill of the VAB is perfect or that the

Rocketflight is not desirable to the masses. At least, not yet. Hence no major incentive to pour development effort into it. Cars, planes, mobile phones, movies are all counterexamples. Also I didn't suggest you'd have a TARDIS, just as most people don't have their own plane, but planetravel is certainly accessible.
