  1. A while ago, I came up with a proposal for a Sedna mission which could run on MMRTGs and use the SLS rocket. Now, with the discovery of 2014 FE72, a Sednoid that is currently far closer than Sedna, this mission could be a real possibility for a New Horizons-type direct mission, with no Oberth assist. Furthermore, it could use a much cheaper Falcon Heavy or Vulcan Heavy. Does anyone want to work together with me to find the nearest launch window using a Jupiter or Saturn gravity assist to FE72 around 2024, then seriously propose it to NASA? For the first time, we have a detached object within reach of current technology. FE72 is slowly leaving the Solar System, and it is just past perihelion. Why don't we take advantage of it to study this bizarre new class of objects we barely know about?
  2. In all simulations, Kupole is a cold desert world only because it does not grow a thick enough atmosphere. Sethlans and Kupole, relative to the center of the habitable zone of Koyash, are at the distances of Venus and Mars respectively. In previous simulations when it was bigger, Sethlans was a super-Venus.
  3. Plugging it in now. ESIs: Sethlans: 0.756 Kupole: 0.744 Indra: 0.563 Indra is now a frozen wasteland, so call it Kratos. Sethlans is a bit hot, but it could support many extremophiles, and it's ocean could host life. Kupole is too cold, and is similar to Mars.
  4. Fonso shouldn't be blue like that. My Fonso's textures are pretty bad, but I feel I got the feel right.
  5. You'd need over ten thousand CubeSats to make a 1km square billboard. This would require an entire Falcon 9 launch. However, a Falcon 9 couldn't lift more than a few thousand CubeSats to orbit at once due to payload fairing size. The average CubeSat costs around $7500, and a Falcon 9 launch costs $61.2 million. The CubeSats' cost would be $75 million, and the Falcon 9s would be another few hundred million. And remember, you'd probably need a few dozen extra, as 10000 cubesats is more than the combined total of every spaceflight ever, and there have been about 5 catastrophic collisions/impacts on spacecraft that caused them to be disabled. All in all, you're looking at a half-billion dollar project. Now, let's see what an inflatable like I talked about earlier would cost. I was apparently completely wrong.. The balloon material itself would cost $16000, and the mass would be.... 2.198 metric tons! That's enough for a small rocket like a Delta II to get into orbit! Sure, we're not accounting for the fact that space-grade Mylar is slightly more expensive, or the R&D needed to produce parts to inflate the balloon, but that can't be that much of a price increase. The cost of one of these balloons would be less than $75 million, enough for Taco Bell to easily afford. The balloon would get punctured pretty fast, but it would last long enough to get 50 million more people to buy tacos. Heck, an EELV, Falcon 9, or Proton could get it to GTO and park it above the US! I'm not sure if the balloon would fit in a fairing, but whatever. Now, I just pray that no one ever launches one.....
  6. You could do a dry run of a Mars flight but with less mass and time, and what about HAVOC?
  7. Agreed. I really wish that they could investigate...
  8. I'm just curious, what would be needed to do a Venus flyby with SLS and Orion? I'm assuming existing architecture such as B330s, Node 4, and MPLMs.
  9. Uhh, it would be in excess of 300 metric tons, too big for any existing launchers.
  10. The ringed moon was supposed to go around GP3 (Titus) and Sotus is the Triton analog for Nool (GP4).
  11. Daphy has been added. It is the closest moon of Sartres, and has jagged grooves and plateus across the surface. With a 4096x2048 map and a 42km radius, this place is quite detailed and has about 25 m/pixel resolution.
  12. Well, you're using my method! How do I get a color-cursor?
  13. All of the textures are handmade. Fonso is my best one yet. I'd be happy to teach how to do it. These look so much better than SE exports.
  14. The views are even better from Fonso. Here it is, by the way.
  15. Hmm... Abolish all celebrity TV shows Multiply the NASA budget by 5000000% Make nerdy be the new "cool" or "hipster", so everyone wants to be friends with a KSP player.
  16. Too much for me to handle. Bowie, Lemmy, Glenn Frey, Kenny Baker, and now Gene Wilder. All gone.
  17. RIP. I remember watching Young Frankenstein when I was 7 or so. Hilarious!
  18. I'm a freshman now, update the OP! New school with nice people, one online class and one in-person class per week. Just had my first online class yesterday. Science and History are so much more engaging! I don't think I could be an astronaut - I'm not that great at math, engineering, or even piloting stuff. I need help driving a canal boat going 5mph, and I use MechJeb all the time when flying stuff in KSP. But I am an amateur astronomer now, and I've invested over $1k in equipment, and sold (among other things) my Magic the Gathering cards just to get more equipment.
  19. I'm basically at Second Class now, about to get to my BOR.
  20. Living in Stamford CT, it's clear tonight. I actually did some astronomical observing with my Meade ETX-90RA, but the tiny finder (ordered a Rigel QuikFinder) made me get annoyed and come back inside. Also, it's a tropical storm now.
