  1. this Toshiba 1000Gb SATA3 DT01ACA100 Review were literally flame-wars, so I gave up and got the first price. (Nothing I should change in my build ? (/g/ conseilled to give up on the GTX970))
  2. Hi everyone. 2 questions : 1) Is this configuration decent ? I5-4690 GTX970 16 Go Ram (in 4 different slots) corsair 550VS asus B85M-G 2) is the corsair 550 VS (550 watt) enough for this ?
  3. Hi everyone, I am asking (again) some advice for to build my computer (because I finally got the money *trumpet and joy*). this computer would be for gaming and that's about it. Kerbal space programm and whatever is in sale on steam (I am a cheap .......). The budget would be 1200 € maximum, including a windows copy but not including the keyboard nor the headset and mouse. I am from belgium and I will go buy on site from this shop http://www.microcity.be/webshop/catalogue-7-microcity-Pi%C3%A8ces%20d%C3%A9tach%C3%A9es%20&%20Accessoires.html It's near my appartemment and commanding via internet is a big no-no (Imagine a building with about 500 sudents dedied appartemment). I don't really have any specific request about it. (mainly because I don't know anything about building pc) I already looked a bit and found those (But I want to stress out that I know nothing) The CPU: http://www.microcity.be/webshop/produit-7-5-12-1434622-microcity.IntelBX80646I54690s1150-4-Core-I5-4690-6MB-Cache-4-Thread-35GHz-39GHz-Turbo-Graphics-4600-84W.html I5 4690 (3.5 GHZ) The graphic card: http://www.microcity.be/webshop/produit-7-5-10-1903032-microcity.GigabyteGV-N970WF3OC-4GDGeForce-GTX970-OC-4GB-3Fan.html GTX 970 4GB dedied For the mother board I think that this one should do the trick (If someone that know about it can tell me if it's really ok ?) http://www.microcity.be/webshop/produit-7-5-9-940502-microcity.Asus90MB0G50-M0EAY5s1150-B85M-G-mATX-VGA+SND+GLN+U3.html The Case : http://www.microcity.be/webshop/produit-7-5-21-1340712-microcity_Corsair.CC-9011052-WW.Spec-03-Red-LED.html 77 € might be a tad costly, but the reviews say it got an great airflow The Ram : http://www.microcity.be/webshop/produit-7-5-46-469913-microcity.KingstonKVR16N11S8-4DDR3-1600Mhz-4GB-Value-CL11-%28-1x4GB-%29.html 4 of those. The hard disk: http://www.microcity.be/webshop/produit-7-5-19-272630-microcity.ToshibaDT01ACA1001000Gb-SATA3-DT01ACA100-%2835%22%29-7200-32mb.html Is it normal that ALL the hard disk reviews look like flamewar from outerspace ? I choose this one because he costed just one € more than the cheapest and got 500 Go in bonus. The disk thingy (where you put the cd): http://www.microcity.be/webshop/produit-7-5-22-853122-microcity.Asus90DD01G0-B10000DVD-Writer-DL-24X.SATA-Black.OEM.html The power supply: http://www.microcity.be/webshop/produit-7-5-23-1059952-microcity.Cooler-MasterRS550-AMAAB1-EU550-Watt-G550M-Power-Modular-80+Bronze-**-Best-Choice-**.html (I got 384W from this http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine but I prefear to be on the safe side) It got good review and my guide say "you get what you pay for", so it is twice the price of the cheapest. For the rest I have no clue. (And could use a tutorial if someone got one ) I apologise for my grammar and general english and for my lack of knowledge (google is not helpfull for once) (I am still looking and will upgrade as I learn)
  4. http://www.elak.be/ After asking to a friend he pointed me out this store, if that could help ? It has ton of z97 and i490k. (I apologise for not having done that before ) EDIT : Can I take 2 ram thing for now and add 2 other, after ? (assuming the motherboard have 4 slot)
  5. My take on this would be we launch a nuclear bomb on their ship. If they survive, we excuse ourselve and blame a crazy dude in the military. If they don't, we salvage their ship. Because, if we don't try to protect our own system, they would try to colonize it.
  6. What are you planning to do with this compuer? Please be as specfic as possible. Mostly KSP, modded as possible and coding (python and java). It would remplace my actual laptop wich has a an i3 and a nvidia geforce 720. That's a personnal computer, and for to play. What is your budget? 1000 € Does this include a copy of Windows? Nope Does this include peripheals (a keyboard, monitor, mouse, speakers, etc.)? I got a micro+headset and a mouse. Are you from the United States or a different country? Are you ordering from your own country or from across borders? Belgium, buying in belgium. Wherever you may be from, does the store that you are planning to order from have a website? It's okay if it isn't in English, we can manage. http://www.microcity.be/webshop/catalogue-7-5-12-microcity-Processeur.html?page=2&MC=all&BRAND=all&sp1=all&sp11=all&sp72=all I am going in a magasin, thought Do you plan on overclocking? If yes, do you have a specific goal in mind? Yes, if possible and that would be about MOAR POWER. Would you prefer the build to be particularly small? Nah. Would you prefer the build to be particularly quiet? I don't really care. I would probably change fan cooling for a water based one, once I got money for it. In general, do you prefer this to be a computer that you can spend money on now and let it rest, or a box built for continuous upgrading? Upgrading. Once every 2 year or so, thought. Do you ever plan on utilizing NVIDIA's SLI or AMD's CrossfireX technologies? These features, with a compatible motherboard, allow a user to link multiple identical graphic cards together for added performance. In real world terms, this lets you buy a second identical graphics card down the line as a relatively cheap and easy way to gain a fairly large boost in performance. However, this requires buying a SLI/CFX compatible motherboard and PSU now, which may result in slightly higher initial cost. If that's more cost efficient, I am all for. For the time being, I want to build a pc in a tower, but I will probably upgrade it into a case with a glass, led and water cooling, for the awesomness sake. I have a 3D printer if that can be used and I have already built things in arduino (a car and a quadrocopter). That would be my first hand built pc. For "experimental technology" (overclocking, SSD, watercooling,...) I am all for.
  7. ) that's the point of going fast. so you have uniformized gravity (one planck length for the ship). I was asking if it was possible to survive by doing so ?
  8. You can't orbit it. it's a blackhole. Or so I tought ? Anyways, that don't change my question, can we survive a blackhole (inside one) ? (Just asking for gravity and the time don't matter.
  9. Well, the trick is when you enter the blackhole, u are ripped apart by the gravity. So the question was, is it possible to survive. Going out is out of question. For the alcubierre drive, I think, yes. Since it modify the spacetime, thus gravity, it normaly should be able to run away. But I am totally not a fiable source.
  10. If you begin to destroy an aircraft carrier, you are probably already in WW3. I mean, why would someone even try to do so if it isn't for a giant war between two superpower ?
  11. I know there is an interstellar thread but I think it don't belong to it, because it's more about how stuff work than the movie 1) Does the oberth effect can explain why they use a so small ship ? (They are going fast in the first planet, so ? :-p ) 2) If u go fast enough, u can make your vessel smaller. is it possible to make it so small (planck length) that it can enter the blackhole with no problem ?
  12. The path that the center of mass of the space elevator follows is indeed a gravitationally curved part, since it is in geostationary orbit. It must at least be geostationnary. but he can be longer. And the movement is curved because the end is locked to the planet, not because of gravitation forces
  13. Of course they do. They orbit in GEO. According to wikipedia they don't describe an orbit, "an orbit is the gravitationally curved path of an object around a point in space" A space elevator is not gravitionnaly curved, thus, they don't orbit. I believe we don't have the ability to make space elevators currently, if ever. I believe we are referring to modern technologies to deflect the asteroid, if I'm not mistaken. We can. Just not on earth
  14. Space elevator don't orbit the planet they are locked to, don't they. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orbit Thus we can mount weapon on them
  15. Alguas gonna be my bet. The low gravity shouldn't affect them too much
  16. My guess would be trying to convert a simili asteroid into usable materials (iron,...) Because what ever nation got it (asteroid) and can get one when they want, is a nation that have tons of dollars. like big tons of them
  17. Rubbish. Very few asteroids share the same orbits. Going from one orbital inclination to another is extremely expensive in terms of delta-v and can potentially take years. Flybys can be coordinated if you're lucky, but actually matching orbits is hard and expensive, even more so if you are moving hundreds of tons of construction material from one orbit to another. There are tons of them between mars and jupiter that share a similar orbit. Humans have only ever migrated to pursue a better life. That is human nature. We seek to increase the wealth, the comfort, or the safety of ourselves and our children. Migrating to space increases none of those things. In fact, living in space typically costs more, is less comfortable, and much more dangerous than living in even the most inhospitable places on our planet. It might be fun to travel to space for the thrill of a short vacation or an adventurous job opportunity, but moving their permanently with your children and expecting them to have a better life than they would have anywhere on Earth is simply wreckless. We want to protect our genes. Going to another planet reduce the probability of the human going exctinct. Thus protecting part of the genes. Even if we die, our family will survive. Our genes will survive.
  18. Btw, who want's to terraform an asteroid? People who wanna live in space. An asteroid is perfect. Many matérials for the humanity to expand and almost no energy for to go to another asteroid. Why is that obvious? Because we are human ?
  19. Because it's easy to live on a planet. I mean, we, as humans, obviously need to expand to the solar system. And mars is the easiest to colonize. 1) planet with athmosphere. U don't have to care about gravity or meteorites. That's great. 2) Near of the earth 3) digging hole is easy. Transform an asteroid into a spacestation is hard and we don't know how to do so. 4) low gravity and reasonnable dv to orbit. we can use it as a base for to explore the universe. Moon is harsh with plants and venus is hell. Asteroid would need way better knowledge of space things (terraforming an asteroid is HARD) and of others asteroid. We are goin to mars not because it's hard, but because it's easy
  20. I am not sure we got a rocket motor powerfull enough to get something in escape trajectory from the moon. Otherwise, it's "easy"
  21. Free will is the ability, if we are put twice in the exact same conditions(same state of mind, same time, same everything), we would react differently. I don't think we do have free will, but we can't be for sure (we can't just restart the universe for to see if we react the same). We can have free will : basing your decison upon the roll of a dice Please excuse my bad english, I am still learning.
  22. I may help. Just what is it and in wich language
