I don't know, mostly I do it because of all the mods. Once I have a stably running copy I keep it. That sucks. Have fun building a new one though! Thanks for the new badge, I've got a whole collection now! I'm already working on a better design of the shuttle with a new robotic arm for assebly purposes: https://imgur.com/a/UHhaB

Thanks for the new badge, working on the Laythe transfer right now, but I'm coming in horribly fast which caused some lost parts and a significant loss of DV, so I'll have to try that again. And after that I'll be building a serious base on Duna, cuz why not? Which brings me to your next post: Building an outpost on the Mun was fun, so let's build one on Duna and expand each area of the current available missions. I would also recommend to add some more missions with multiple transfers to ease the learning curve on that a little bit, because as it so stands you need to use a couple external tools in order to be able to make the transfer Duna-Eve-Kerbin transfer happen in any kind of reasonable form which makes it really hard to figure out. Links to some of these tools would be beneficial, but there's more orbital maneuvering that can be done, such as a figure 8 transfer around the mun or a minmus-mun-kerbin transfer maybe? Just thinking out loud here. I'll see if I can invest some time in that discussion to pick some things out of it that would seem useful.

Thanks for the badges @michal.don Work has begun on the space potato recovery. The round black thing is a fuel tank, it's called dragon capsule fuel tank and some tweak scale with some Small RCS tanks clipped into it and the engines attached to it as well as the grey landing legs Those wings do sure work though! Once you understand the entry trajectory the whole thing is a breeze to land as long as the roll flaps don't start to wobble that is. The nose cone a single part, belongs to something called NCR, it's also where the cargo bay comes from. I believe it's parts of "Near future launch vehicles". I wouldn't presume to know how to make a hinge with stock parts, let alone a nose cone I can open and close at will.

So, that concludes Dune STS 3: https://imgur.com/a/5Jkn6 Nice to learn how to set multiple transfers to a single burn. Not much of a learning curve, but more like a learning wall as they say, but it sure did pose a challenge! I like having 2 landers at the Duna base, due to a failed attempt with a bad quicksave that required an abort and return to Kerbin I had to leave 1 there earlier and attached the second one on the final flight. each can carry 8 Kerbals to the surface and back to the station. I'm planning to build a base on Duna's surface where they could dock on top of the central column and refuel so they can also function as escape vessels for Kerbals on the surface later on. First there's 2 more things to achieve: catch a space potato and visit Jool.

Thanks for the fresh badge @michal.don ! Must be nice to come back to such a full house So I've recently found out that STS Duna 3 is REALLY hard if you've never done a proper fly-by planning... But with some tools and a bit of fiddling I've made it! https://imgur.com/a/iBWnY Just a preview, still need to properly position the sattelites and land the shuttle, but that's all pretty standard fare by now.

Here's the promised full album of my Duna visit nr 2 with the new and improved massive 5 meter BFR-esque shuttle: https://imgur.com/a/A70jG This was hard! And required several attempts at several moments in time, but managed to complete the mission unscathed in the end. Now to figure out how to do that Duna-Eve-Kerbin transfer, that'll be a s...show...

Here's a sneak preview on tomorrow nights full mission report: https://imgur.com/a/rt6zV STS Duna 2 is finished, but required support due to forgetting to set an action group for the retro rockets and burning way more fuel than required on the way back up. Also working on a STS Duna 4 plan (I know that's not on the rulebook (yet)) building a massive Duna base of which I've positioned the first piece on this mission. Expect a massive report and base on that one! or 3 (hopefully) ('cause this thing's large enough to accomodate multiple large items every trip)

So after having tried a whole bunch of times to land several designs of shuttle on Duna I can't seem to find a way to build a shuttle that doesn't crash at rediculous speed on Duna even if it flies well there at around 130 m/s... Anyone got any tips on how to tackle this obstacle? (going to try an old shuttle design that barely wanted to land on Kerbin due to excessive lift.) Edit: finally managed, answer is moar boosters, in this particular case positioned right under the center of mass pointing downwards to slow it waaaaaaay down in the vertical speed department. (needed like 20 odd attempts to figure that out...)

Couldn't resist doing STS Duna 1: https://imgur.com/a/ZL7Qs I wanted to do it BFR-style, but realized the BFR cannot land on wheels, so I had to figure out something that has a similar look, but isn't in fact similar at all. The one really big problem with this thing that it doesn't want to slow down when flying, it just keeps on going... And putting it at a Space-X like angle is just not possible in KSP, I would tear it to shreds! These fuel tanks just have no heat resistance and the wings apparently don't offer enough protection... Managed to do it though, but I needed a little fly-by-wire for the atmospheric bits. No autopilot, but stability assist was definitely required.

Not sure if your question was answered or not, but here's the answer: Normally you would just slap on a torsion wheel to stabilize your sattelites, instead you will need to figure out a way to spin the sattelite around it's main axis to maintain trajectory while you fire the engines to bring it into position. There are many ways to do this. I found for myself it was simplest to just put several small engines on my sattelites and angle them a little bit off the prograde to get spin while firing the engines, but I've also seen some beautiful sattelite deployments using a bunch of sepratrons to obtain spin. For inspiration you can just browse the history of this topic for a bit, there's a whole bunch of examples in here. Hope this helps answer your question @sh1pman!

Here goes my elaborately long Mun 2-(4)7 mission report. It's actualy so long it requires two imgur albums: Part 1: (the shorter part because if you upload them 1 at a time imgur puts the latest image on top, so you have to do it in reverse order if you don't wanna sort 500 images that have been arranged in a totally random order from uploading them all at once. One might almost think they don't want us to their service for this purpose anymore....) https://imgur.com/a/zLgwZ Part 2: https://imgur.com/a/Ayx4w I actually flew the missions a while ago, but organizing 564 screenshots was not something I was looking forward to. I forgot to race around with the crew inside the rover, but I've clearly shown the rovers driving capability so I hope you can look through that.

A little tease from my MUN STS-2 > 4 mission reports, just finished MUN STS 2 to my own satisfaction at 84 degrees south, now I'll have to get the other stuff over to the base (I'll likely make more than just the three trips to complete the base) https://imgur.com/a/yjkAY Full report will follow once all missions are completed

I managed to drive it off the ramp by moving backwards and forwards a lot, it's a bit of a sh*tshow. Even lost a solar panel in the process. And not because it doesn't fit, it does, I tested it on the KSC grounds a couple times, but because on the mun for some inexplicable reason the wheels lock up every other second. In the end I freed it up by throttling up the shuttle after which it fell out and the panel broke off. I'm not sure why the wheels freeze up though, they work just fine on the KSC grounds... I think for the next round I'm going to see if I can create a somewhat roomier cargo space. It's almost (don't kill me) a podracer, right? It looks like those massive LRB's are just dragging the shuttle behind it like a capsule on a string.

And on we go with STS Mun 1, which I'll admit is significantly harder than anything before it. Had to rebuild my shuttle three times before I got it just so I could reliably land it on the mun. And then had to rebuild once more because I messed up my aerodynamic stability with an empty hull... https://imgur.com/a/rXusl I had to capture in 2 parts in order to make it to the KSC, hope you don't mind.

And STS 5-8 while I'm at it, this is a long one! 226 screenshots in a row: https://imgur.com/a/pgB6W There's a couple screenshots where one of the parts is bugging a bit and during reentry it flares up insanely. I'm still uncertain about which part caused it, but I managed to get it off the STS shuttle, so in later missions it doesn't show anymore. Also, airbrakes are insane, it's like having a proper parachute on your vessel. I sometimes break them due to reentry heating, but by then I usually no longer need them anyway.
