Couldn't ESA buy KSP2 and continue funding and developing it?
Darmok replied to Dinlink's topic in KSP2 Discussion
Out of all of the things that will never happen with KSP2, this one will never happen the most. -
I loved KSP1 and spent 2250 hrs playing it so I was very excited about KSP2. Saw the negative comments at release so I took a wait-and-see approach. I did end up buying it a few months ago when there was a Steam sale because I really like the idea of interstellar and colonies and I figured they'd get it working eventually. I still haven't played it. Don't know if I ever will.

What small mistakes did you make that ruined your mission?
Darmok replied to syfyguy64's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I had a small mistake that nearly ruined the mission but I got lucky with the time of the failure. I forgot to add solar panels on a Mun rescue mission. Fortunately I had enough batteries to last through the return trip and I didn't even notice until I had managed to get a return that dipped down to 50 km on Kerbin. At that point I lost control and I was wondering why SAS stopped working. I was thinking, "the batteries are dead; how can the batteries be dead? Oh ... crap". It took a few orbits before the return capsule slowed enough to land but luckily the parachutes and landing legs can be deployed without electrical power. -
Moho, Dres, Eeloo... No Atmosphere, No Moons, No Game
Darmok replied to CalMacDa's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I've been to Moho 4 or 5 of times mainly because I stranded someone there and it took several attempts to rescue him. I've been to Eeloo three times, most recently for the Kadvent challenge. I've gone to Dres just once and never had any desire to revisit it. Poor Dres. -

Day 27 - Although the PHB said there was no budget left to test the MK3 Shuttle we figured it would be perfect for the South Pole contract. At first everything seemed to be going well but there obviously were still some kinks to work out. In the end we did complete the contract but we also left Addin stranded at the South Pole. - - - Updated - - - Day 29 - The resupply mission ran into a Kraken and part of the port wing was torn off. We're still trying to decide whether to send a rescue shuttle or to fly this one back as is. -

Day 26 - In retrospect developing and flying a shuttle to the Night Wind space station the day after Khristmas when everyone was still hung over from too much holiday cheer was a really bad idea. One might say it was doomed to failure. At first we tried to develop a SSTO but after testing many different designs the result was the same - an uncontrolled flight into the ocean shortly after leaving the runway. At this point the SSTO design was shelved and more traditional design was attempted. Getting to orbit was no problem for this design but in our haste we failed to do adequate testing on important things like could it get back from orbit. We then started up a skunk works program to develop a shuttle that could at least glide somewhat adequately. This one did not fly at all adequately. Looks like we need another test pilot. We made more extensive changes and this one flew - briefly. The next test pilot wisely insisted that we install an abort sequence including some parachutes. This one flew but it took some effort to keep it up since it constantly wanted to point the nose down. OK, it's getting late so let's widen the rear landing gear and adjust the position of the engines so that it hopefully is more forgiving to fly. While were at it let's just send it up and hope for the best. It was a success although the landing was not as planned. -

Day 24 - I really tried for Eeloo but in my haste I neglected to do any testing. Not surprisingly the result was a spectacular failure so I landed a tree at KSC. -

Day 21 - I'm finally all caught up again. I just read the fine print. No Kerbals allowed for this launch so I'm going to have to redo it. Let's pretend the first one never happened. OK this time I completed the launch and rendezvous without Kerbals: -

Day 19 - If we're going to have fireworks we need some spectators so first I built some stands for those attending the fireworks. When the seats were filled the fireworks were set off. -

Days 13 and 14 - This one kicked my butt. It took multiple attempts before I even got an encounter with an asteroid then when I finally did grab one I tried an aerocapture that was way too low and the asteroid crashed into Kerbin. The next time I decided to aerocapture at a much higher periapsis which was working until the advanced grabbing unit snapped off and then an unfortunate Mun encounter sent the asteroid crashing into Kerbin. Finally after much swearing I managed to save Kerbin; well if you can say that preventing one out of three asteroids from crashing into Kerbin is actually saving it. I'm kind of the anti-batman. -

Day 12 - I've never actually gone there before so this will be interesting. -

Day 9 - I was almost finished the challenge when I flipped the rover and both Jeb and Bill became debris. With no way to recover I started over. Here's the first failed attempt: And here was the second successful attempt: -

Day 8 was the day that Murphy showed up. First we ran into problems with exploding engines. In order to resolve that we had to use more fuel from the transfer stage than planned and I wasn't sure if we would have enough to make it back. And finally Burmy got knocked out while doing a simple crew transfer from the lander back to the command module. When he finally regained consciousness he had drifted several hundred meters away. -

Day 7 was bitter sweet; the free return test was fairly successful but we lost Billy-Bobmon. Billy-Bobmon could have returned in the command module but elected to try to land the Mun lander on Kerbin. We had thought that Billy-Bobmon was just going to skim the upper atmosphere while Burmy Kerman landed the command module but Mission Control lost track of him at about that time. He is lost and presumed dead. RIP Billy-Bobmon. -

Day 6 - I was a little worried about this one since I often have boosters crash into the second stage and have to do a bit of iterative engineering to get everything working. This time everything went well. For the actual Mun attempt I may try a pancake style to avoid that issue. -
Today I made my first visit to the Mun arch Weeeeeeeee

Day 5 - Well at least this is something I've done many times. Hopefully I remember all the little gotchas that have caused too many a failure. I does say "kerbals on the Mun" so this lander holds two. -
