[1.1] BDArmory v0.11.0.1 (+compatibility, fixes) - Apr 23
ziogatto replied to BahamutoD's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Is it possible to have the chance of destruction of a part depend not only on its impact tolerance but also on its empty mass? Something like chance=chance/(1 + empty_mass*gun_caliber_constant) the 1 is to avoid potential division by zero for massless parts. It's a bit weird when a little vulcan gun tears trough those massive B9 parts like a knife trough butter. XD -
Well for radio waves it depends on what the medium you're propagating trough absorbs. In free space there is no absortion so all frequencies will have the same "strength" at a certain distance given the same power budget. The thing you're asking is probably this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free-space_path_loss That formula has a dependency to frequency but only to compensate the implicit definition of the antenna. Basically you get more power at lower frequencies only because your antenna is bigger and absorbs more power. If you instead keep the same antenna then you'll find no dependency on frequency. If you however propagate trough a medium then it depends on what you're propagating trough. The relationships are usually rather complex. For example the losses due to propagating trough water are like so: hence why submarines tend to use very low frequencies for communication.

Best energy alternatives to stop global warming
ziogatto replied to AngelLestat's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Hydro? I'm pretty sure your sources ignored the banqiao dams when they rated hydro as safer than nuclear while still taking in account chernobyl. It may be unfair to add the banqiao dams in but if you factor in chernobyl in nuclear then you should factor banqiao in hydro and seeing as 171.000 people died from that disaster hydro's death toll skyrockets way past nuclear. -
How do I make unmanned probes useful with the new science system?
ziogatto replied to brooklyn666's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I think you should give up on sending probes with those kinda experiments and isntead send probes with very light experiment modules like the temperature etc... I agree that some (not all) experiments should be re-usable, otherwise voyager like missions would be very akwardly loaded with hundreds of science modules. Perhaps a new science part like a camera which takes pictures could be a reusable science module... it's still early developement and the possibilities are many! -
I don't think tourism should give flat unlimited money, it should have the same approach as science, the first ones to get to somewhere new will be willing to pay a lot but as you repeat the same kind of tourism then kerbals will be willing to pay less and less till you barely pay the gas bill to get them there.

Well I hope the rings don't just get painted or as fuzzy patches with some rendering effects but are actually implemented as something like this: http://youtu.be/h7eREddMjt4?t=4m1s

I agree with the general idea tough not so much with making it mandatory. What KSP essentially needs is a better telecomunications model than the current very basic implementation. I'm not complaining about it since it's the very first implementation and telecom is probably something like a "cherry on top" for most people but in some expeditions this aspect had crucial roles for example in the galileo probe the high gain antenna didn't open so they had to use a low gain antenna to transfer the data at a much lower rate and they were able to salvage a good portion of the experiment data but they had to sacrifice some of the most data heavy experiments (mostly photos). Other than having a more complex model for data transmission, one that varies the speed and energy cost of transmission based on distance and antennas used, what we really need is something which forces us to use it. Some real world examples would be: -Temperature measurement, this is just a bunch of numbers and would likely occupy just a few Kb -Videos and photos, these can take several Mb or even Gb (think for example a very high definition photo of a space telescope or a video of a landing) There are orders of magnitude of difference between these two kinds of data, we need that so that if we want to send a probe to measure a bunch of numbers we can probably get away with a small and light antenna, if we want to take HD pics of other planets then we should need to put high gain antenna otherwise it would take an insane amount of time to transmit (weeks or even more). I really hope this aspect of the game doesn't get overlooked in the final product.

Who won the Space Race? Community poll
ziogatto replied to czokletmuss's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Who said the race is over? If america being a fox thinks they've already won and take a nap the turtles behind will catch up before you realize it! -
Orbital Fighting [Star wars is a good example]
ziogatto replied to bulletrhli's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Changing direction relative to another ship does not require immense delta v, if you fly over them at 50m/s then you want to change direction 180° and fly over them again at 50m/s you need only 100m/s of delta V. That said there's a KSPer on youtube called Macey Dean who is roleplaying some orbital battles and they're really fun to watch. -
On the energy side I'm very optimistic, there are many valid alternatives and not just renewables, for example this video was posted on these forums some time ago: ^It's just an introduction but there is a youtuber which made hours long montages about it answering pretty much any doubt about it that came to mind, It seems like a valid alternative and some governments are already working on this with china on the lead. On the side of climate change and in general pollution I'm much more concerned: I'm afraid our corporations are too lazy and scared to invest in anything new while the government is too short sighted (or too corrupted) to introduce any meaningful regulations to propel us away from fossil fuels. I just hope we run out of oil before we run out of air to breathe, at that point willing or not everyone will have to adapt.

[1.0.2] NovaPunch 2.09. - May 6th - 1.0 Compatibility Update
ziogatto replied to Tiberion's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Take your time and do it nicely, you\'re not a worker you don\'t need to meet some deadline or anything xD Anyway I think you should do the rescaling as you said, or at least match either 1.75 or 2 to the size of stock things because one thing that is severly lacking are decouplers that hide engines... i mean they look like they\'re floating in the air above the other stage! XD -
^ Harv mentioned that he wants to include the ability to build structures and assemble ships on other planets or moons, i don\'t see why it couldn\'t be done on asteroids as well Well on a gameplay note, this has to be carefully balanced otherwise the asteroid belt is gonna get spammed with stuff mining all sorts of things (or at least i would).

Ohh these ones look very nice! I was expecting something like a random black and white pattern because in the past modelers who had no textures simply put that and said 'it\'s carbon fiber!'. Glad i was wrong =P
-
Patience young padawan XD BTW I don\'t know if anybody noticed this yet but the new chute has a little bug in it, it might be that i screwed something up tough i\'ll post a pic and somebody will hopefully check it. It\'s a little missing texture on the far side (the one opposite where you usually look when you load it):

Robotic lander on the surface of Eve... Beautiful! Those dense fogs make it so mysterious it\'s a really inspiring picture.

Make a large space plane
ziogatto replied to Dr_Pockets's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
In my experience sometimes the problem was that when placing parts in weird configurations that were not meant to be by the designer some collision boxes freak up and cause explosions. Try distancing the parts by using lateral decouplers for example. -
Kaledonia's Guardians in the Sky!
ziogatto replied to Asmosdeus's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
The first ship reminds me of the stargate ships, it\'s really cool xD -
The mod packs are awesome, i haven\'t used a stock part in so long XD
