CobaltWolf, Thank you. I'll take a look at KAS tonight -
It should say in the assembly area build info, but i believe ideal is 70,000km (close to atmosphere boundary) but operates up to 125,000km

Hello all, The SSTL outreach team are looking for a couple of volunteer KSP proficient programmers to work with SSTL_Pete and Akron (author behind ProbesPlus) on the SSTL Satellite Pack mod . SSTL would like to add some gameplay features that enhance the game around the use of satellites. We are also thinking about adding to the parts pack some of our more unique satellites, one being a satellite that removes debris that has a number of technologies to capture space debris, including a net and harpoon capture system. However this has a number of technical game challenges if we want to replicate. If you’d like to volunteer please get in touch and or post below with some examples of past work. A few features/ideas we had were; Create code to allow a harpoon to attach to another part Create code that would capture another part Create a solarsail that can be used for propulsion and also as a means to deorbit within an atmosphere Create a mod that when a satellite (Core Probe) has less than 10% electricity it enters "SAFE" mode. Which triggers WARP to return to x1 speed, turns off any payloads, points solar panels towards sun. Minor animation that moves the 300S1 X-Band antenna towards the closest communication node Create a mod that allows you to write a set of instructions that can be uploaded to the satellite and when a specific time is reached, the instruction is actioned (to be used with the RemoteTech mod). This would be a reasonable representation of what we do in reality which we call SKEDS. Create a 'Frequencer Filer' mod to pseudo replicate 'Frequency filer missions that are done in reality. The mod would issue a contract to get a satellite to a specific orbit range within a specific time limit. If the contract fails then no communication can occur to any probe cores in that orbit range. Create observation contracts that if successful allows players to earn a code, with that code a player can then download a password protected file from the internet containing a unique SSTL satellite image or video. i.e. in-game Easter eggs. Create a mod that whilst under WARP the 300S1 satellite imager points towards the orbiting planetary body Enhance SCANat mod to; When two or more satellites are connected their combined FoV are increased FoV is dictated by the orientation of the 300S1 satellite imager and the direction it is pointing in, with regards to planetary body The science collected is a function of the satellite being located at its optimum altitude If anything here can be replicated by an existing mod we would like to hear about these as well Kind regards The SSTL Outreach Team

Cheers Andiron. There was an issue with the SCANsat compatibility configuration file. Satellite pack has now been updated to version 0.3 and should work now.

Great stuff Kerbal01. Love the images! -
Calling all Kerbinauts, Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. has released a part mod, containing SSTL Satellites. In our first release of this mod we have the 300S1 satellite and launch ring adaptor. As features and more satellite parts are added to this mod we hope to set some interesting and unique challenges to the community using our satellites. However for now our first challenge is relatively simple. Constellation Challenge #1 - Start date 06/04/2018: Set up a constellation of a number of "SSTL 300S1" satellites from a single launch around Kerbin such that in any one standard Kerbin day 95% of Kerbin is scanned and mapped. Rules: Stock parts only apart from those found in the Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. - Satellite Pack Must use the SCANsat mod (default settings) to map the Kerbin biome Prior to starting the scanning period (i.e. 6 hour Kerbin day) all previous scanned data of Kerbin should be cleared. [NB: Rules will be updated if required, if clarity is required. This is our first challenge so we may mess things up] Scoring: Score = total cost of launcher and components used (including 300S1 satellites) * the total mission time in seconds since launch Verification: Supply some images from launch to final global coverage and post below Leader board: Winner is the person with the lowest score Name Score Enjoy and have fun! Mods to simulate a Ground Control Station

Tunefix, Just had a look, looks very good. Where in the world are you based? If in the UK I can organise for you to visit SSTL for real and see how our Spacecraft Operation Centre looks and works. Something that would be pretty good, would be some sort of Schedule. So you upload a number of commands into a schedule and upload it to the S/C. The S/C then actions the commands in sequence at specified times (dictated by the schedule). Back end to the mod - a schedule is not actually sent to the S/C, the mod just delays the passing of commands to KSP and only sends set commands). If you then make this compatible with one of the other mods that limits communication (i.e. passing of schedule) to S/C to when only over a ground station you would then make a fairly accurate simulation of what its really like trying to communicate to a satellite. Cheers Pete -
I'm running an outreach event soon and i was wondering if there were any mods that converted the game to allow multiple players to work together to control and launch a single rocket much like they do in a real mission control centre. Cheers Pete

Cheers for the initial responses. I have been given some time to co-ordinate this project, but not enough time to actually do the work of creating the mod myself. The ideal situation would be one/team of you fine modders to volunteer, get in touch and tell us exactly what you need (types of CAD files and what format, physical parameters etc), i can then work on the SSTL side and gather the relevant information/files. We are open to either real scale/look or kerbal scale/look. Its important to us that it engages with as many of the KSP community as possible and ultimately inspires people to seek out more information about SSTL and possibly put a job application in, in the future. Our basic goal is to have SSTL satellite models that could be launched within the game. As additional features of the mod the following would be very desirable. After launch from the Kerbal rocket, the satellite detumbles (in the same way it would normally) and point its camera towards Kerbin. The satellite then deploys any deployables. When the satellite passes over a ground station the player has the opportunity to upload new instructions to the satellite The satellite will take a picture of the ground as instructed When the satellite goes over the ground station again the photo(s) is/are downloaded and accessible to be viewed by the player I hope this all sounds of interest. If interested, please send an email to; p (dot) shaw@sstl (dot) co (dot) uk Cheers Pete

Hello, I'm part of the outreach team at Surrey Satellite Technology limited (a UK based company that builds small satellites). One of the ideas we recently had was to create a mod for KSP, which allowed the KSP community to try and launch SSTL satellites into space and orbit Kerbin. As a design and manufacturing company we have plenty of CAD designers and engineers but not so many KSP programmers :0) If it helps we already have graphical models of our satellites. Is there anyone who would be willing to work on a voluntary basis and help create a satellite themed KSP mod? If you are could you please send screenshots or descriptions of some of your previous mod work to p (dot) shaw@sstl (dot) co (dot) uk I hope to hear from you soon Kind regards Pete
