  1. I'm in love with everything about the update, but man - I cannot seem to go to space today. All of my rockets wind up with the fiery bit pointing upwards in the new Atmo.
  2. I imagine it's something like Kerbal Toys of some variety. Though something like Tweakscale going stock is another thought I had.
  3. I like the eyelashes. I agree with the poster above who said they are necessary. I think she looks great!
  4. I always assumed Kerbals did use real fuels analogous to what we have in our world, and they just "do the math" to make the ships, fuel tanks, engines, etc. work how we see them work in-game.
  5. It also helps to know that the contract orbit will show a string of lights moving in the direction the satellite is supposed to go. If your satellite is moving against the direction of the string of lights, you're going the wrong way. Also, I'm less sure about this, but I think the contract language is usually a good indicator of the direction you need to go. I've noticed that when it says "put a satellite in orbit...," then you are dealing with a standard eastbound orbit. When it says "put a satellite in a *specific* orbit...," usually there is something funky going on with the orbit (such as it being westbound).
  6. Well, plans change, right? That said, I didn't know about Squads "day job", as it were. Honestly that probably mean we'll be getting free stuff for a long time. Also DLCs aren't the only way to make money. To quote Yogurt from Spaceballs: "Merchandising! Where the real money from the movie is made!" We already see MaxMaps all over that. Who here doesn't want a Jebediah bobble-head for their dashboard? I'd wrestle a bear for one. And KerbalEdu could be a real money maker. Plus the Pixar movie rights. And the inevitable "Behind the Music" VH1 documentary detailing the scandal after success goes to all the Devs heads and Harvester breaks up the band, followed by a "Hell Freezes Over"-like reunion tour which makes billions.
  7. To be fair, things like DLCs are sort of a requirement if you want a company like Squad to stay in business and keep working on the same game. Without alternative streams of revenue and new content, eventually the numbers of people purchasing the game will dwindle, and the company will make less and less money. We don't pay subscriptions to keep playing KSP. Games like Eve Online, WoW, etc. get constant revenue and new subscribers (and renew old ones) when they kick out an expansion. KSP can't do that, and so DLCs and expansions make a lot of sense when the company looks at the bottom line. I dislike DLCs too, but they aren't that bad and in a lot of ways could be very good for Squad and the game in general. Or they could just scrimp along and wait to be bought out by EA. As for what I would pay for? I'm not sure. It's a tricky subject because as noted above: almost anything can be acquired through a mod. Maybe expanded content that is difficult to mod. Stuff like explorable cave systems or submarine exploration. Strange moons with layers like Europa. Expansions on the level of the NASA asteroid thing maybe. Tough to say. In any case, it's easy to rattle sabers at DLCs, but the truth is nobody wants to work for free, an you have to put milk on the table somehow. DLCs are *one* way Squad can do that.
  8. Really? I think it's completely reasonable to expect (or rather, hope for) reactions to be the same. It's not the devs fault if people get resentful over when and where the devs choose to post questions to the community. You say: "someone made the gracious favor of pointing...", which - to me - sounds like someone went to some great burdensome trouble because the devs simply couldn't be bothered to post on the forums. To me, your choice of language makes it sound like the developers are going out of their way to poopoo on the forums. Maybe that wasn't the tone you were trying to convey, but that is certainly what I read into your post. But that's not really the truth. The truth is: someone cross-posted something they saw on Reddit, and forum-goers chose to allow themselves to get riled up and react emotionally rather than just looking at the data. I did this search, and while there are a few good ideas in there, there isn't really anything as specific as what was required in the original post on Reddit. Further, while all the good stuff is really buried in there, I think it's reasonable to expect that the developers taken note of the best ideas in there. Finally, as has been noted before, Reddit probably has a wider viewing range, and access to more new players who might be able to provide the feedback they were looking for. What I don't understand is how it is unreasonable that the developers went to a different forum for feedback when they wanted to cultivate that forum specifically for feedback, and why it's unreasonable to expect people on this forum to react to that situation...reasonably.
  9. To be fair: you just explained the main problem with the forums right now, and gave a very compelling argument for why the Devs may be looking elsewhere. Looking at the two threads asking for feedback, the difference is startling. One is filled with lots of useful ideas and helpful feedback. The other is mostly filled with gripes, complaints about how KSP isn't ready for 1.0, individuals saying they haven't used the tutorials in a long time, and to be fair - a few possibly useful bits of feedback. I feel these forums have probably turned into a threatening environment for the devs. Every day I see examples of people on this forum taking more and more antagonistic stances against Squad. And I don't get it. I agree totally. That might be what the Devs are thinking when they get positive responses on a Reddit post, and effective crickets (at best) and attacks (at worst) on the Forum post. To be fair: I'm kind of new here. I don't post very often, but I lurk a lot. Maybe there's some nuance I'm missing, but I for one am getting kind of tired of the general attitude I read on the forums. The main change should start with us, the community, and we can start by not caring how the Developers get information they are looking for, and instead try being happy with the results. Every bit on preview information we are given, be it by Tweet, Reddit post, Facebook message, blogpost, Twitch preview, etc. is a gift given to us by the Developers. We should say "thanks", and enjoy it. Yes, we can be critical, or bring up things we're worried about, but there's a difference between a critique and bitching and honestly it feels more like bitching lately. KSP is successful because of the Developers interaction with the Kerbal community...we shouldn't make them regret it.
  10. If the feedback is identical, what difference does it make? It seems reasonable the developers could have read the feedback on the forums, cross-referenced stuff on Reddit and other areas, and fixed things that seemed to bubble up to the top over and over again. Maybe they gave Reddit credit because that's the last poll the ran, but really the forums had a big impact. Is this really just about people getting angry about not getting an e-pat on the head?
  11. Oh, please. People are being really childish about this. It was one tweet on a developers private twitter account. Folks need to get over this. Frankly, I can't blame the Devs for turning to other areas for feedback. People on the forums act as if they are the end-all-be-all of the KSP community when it is demostratively false. I'd, even say the vast majority of players do not even hit these forums, ever. The main people who use these forums are going to be die hard KSP fans, who may or may not actually give good useful feedback in polls, surveys, and "general user experience" issues. Why? Because they are die-hard KSP fans who do crazy things like calculate dV while sitting on the toilet or design ships during meetings at work. People on this forum are prone to having very strong opinions about how the game should be run, and flip out if someone posts a random tweet as a teaser or start burning down barns if they don't like what they see in an early release photo. If te developers need feedback on the average user experience, this forum is really not the place to get that feedback. I enjoy reddit way more than these forums lately, largely because the level of stupid seems lower, and actual enjoyment of the game seems higher. This is supposed to be a cool community. How about we start acting like it, and not flip out with stupid drama over fun tweets?
  12. To be fair, there have been times when I have wanted to select Kerbin (or the Sun) as a target, and simply couldn't do it because of this weird behavior. It's always been frustrating and it has always seemed (to me) to be a potentially useful tool. I think either all bodies should have the same behavior (ie: the user can target all bodies the same regardless of where they are) or the game should give useful information when it refuses to do so. Something as easy as a note which says "cannot target the parent body of a system," with a sad sounding beep would probably suffice. While they're at it: having the Kerbal space port viewable as an icon that you can target would be great, too. "Space ports" could be a new tab in the map view/tracking station, with the ability to right click on them, switch-to, and set intercepts.
  13. I would imagine that a standard testing procedure in the development process is to create a stock craft of some kind as a baseline and launch it from every body in the system.
  14. Personally, I think KSP is ready for 1.0 whenever the developers think it is. Almost every game in existence gets new content added to it after release. To me, this makes zero difference. I purchased the game I wanted in .23. Everything else has just been gravy since then. Other rational actors will purchase the game they want in 1.0. For them, new releases will also be gravy. In my experience, Squad has developed a reputation of churning out great updates on schedule, with vast changes and huge work. I have never played a game which feels like a new game every 3 months. They aren't making any noises about changing that, so I don't see any reason to flip out over a number. Congrats on moving to 1.0 Squad. Keep up the great work!
