  1. Fresh 1.8 with (currently) no mods. Sending a probe to the Mun proved too challenging for the 30 part limit of the basic VAB, so we had to send something less complicated: Jeb. Surprisingly, he did a respectable job of piloting an unwieldy rocket to low munar orbit without so much as a manoeuvre node. From here, a stir of public interest led to a boost in funding that allowed us to employ a mathematician to plot his route back home. Despite not landing and only carrying 2 basic science units, Jeb managed to bring 135 data points back home, opening up the next phase of rocketry research. (If anyone can recommend an alternative to imgur, I'd like to hear about it. I can't understand their new UI at all )

  4. Copy it to a folder outside of Steam's jurisdiction and run from there. I have versioned game folders from 1.3 through 1.6

  6. Fair point ... but I may not want to wait as long as it will take for the full set to happen x) Also, I've done a stock+OPM career log before, I'm quite used to visual discrepancies
  7. Wow, last time I encountered a necro this powerful I was playing D&D... Anyway, I'd say Vall. It's a surprisingly nice blue - however it is the 2nd least convenient of the Joolian moons, so it's hard to justify using it for anything.
  8. Ooo... probably a good job I still haven't migrated my 1.4.x to 1.7 then... (I tried but it crashed after just 30 minutes and I couldn't be bothered working out why. Maybe I'll just do a simple stock game with 1.8, check out the new terrain and such.)
  9. Assembled a "minimal" 1.7.x modpack and got started on a new career! But it crashed 3 times in 3 hours. Don't know which mod to blame. Might play stock + KER + KAC for a while...
  10. It'll do for a while at least My game time is... very limited. And so far all I've done this career is achieve orbit
  11. Hours and hours (maybe days), designing a 0.1 scale Jupiter mission. Mothership, lander, rover, etc. Sent it on its way. Did a variety of basic tasks in Earth SoI while it was en-route; some satellites, think there was a moon mission in there... Got to Europa orbit, a couple of real-time days later - and the docking port doesn't undock. Pretty sure I raged and hyperedited the ship back, disembarked everyone, launched it again and hyperedited it back to Europa x)
  12. This pack looks different and interesting Might be a silly question, but is there a delta-v map floating around anywhere? I tend to customise my mod loadout to fit the planetary system I'm playing in, so knowing the averages and maximums helps

  14. Awesomesauce, I used to love these pods back in my 0.9 career, but they sadly became incompatible with later versions. Great to see them back, thank you I have to ask - and it's fine if this is beyond your interest, it really is just a query I've been sitting on for 3 years - is it possible to give the kerbal's chair a toggle-able orientation? As in allow us to flip between facing "forwards" for launch and orbital flight, and "outwards" for landings?

  18. My own personal inability to start a career that will finish before I burn out. I always go for enormous planet packs and dozens of mods, and I end up getting half way through, and then reality interrupts for a couple of weeks and... I never quite manage to pick it up again until half a year has passed. And then when I come back, it's a new version, and either I have to go back to a now-old version, or start a whole new game

  20. By the community? Neither. Some people take great pride in waiting 30+ years for the optimal encounter (or in some cases, a flyby that puts their AP/PE in the right place to theoretically get them to a 3rd body, in however many decades). This is a good demo of how minimal space vehicles can be if you have lots of time. Other people take pride in orbital fuel depots, sometimes (but not always) supplied by tanker SSTOs that have no purpose other than to lift fuel to LKO. Others build massive rockets because the game typically overfunds you anyway and maybe you just want to get there inefficiently but quickly because your time matters more than esoteric "how it should be done" criteria None of these things are wrong or frowned on.

  23. Looking good @Shadowmage Btw, are you aware that medium wheels have a wobble issue at 3-4x timewarp and high spring+damper ratings? It may be a game-physics problem and beyond your ability to fix. My only workaround was either 2x timewarp, or low ratings, which stopped them wobbling. I think it's about right as-is Unless you could do something that would measure elapsed mission time on the ground and make them dustier as the days pass
  24. Interesting to know, I'd actually missed that... but I insist on many mods, so I suspect it will be years (or never) before it's a viable option for me :<
