  1. Hes reviewed several of your mods. Thats how I learned about them. I have kind of a dumb question. What if my payload is too short to fill up the space inside the fairing? Am I supposed to fill in the gap with cube struts or something or is the bottom connection strong enough to hold the payload. Thanks.
  2. I finally looked at LEM pics from what they actually used and saw Its quite a bit different than the pic I was going off of. Saw some even earlier designs that look like 1950s design stuff I might try next.
  3. I never have used subassembly's before. Plus I'm old an slow.
  4. I did the probe core trick to save it as a subassembly. Thing is the bottom node dosent show up when importing it to be able to attach it. Also I did a new version of the LEM which is simpler and weights about a ton less. Also I must mention I am loosely basing it on an old schoolbook I had as a kid from 1967. So its before the final LEM version that landed on the moon years later.
  5. Thanks I'll give the probe core a try. Yeah it could probably do with less parts.
  6. I just checked and the Kerbal can EVA from the lander can even with the vernor engine there. To get him in the top pod I just do a transfer and select transfer and then select MK1 pod on top. It has a very small piece you can select from the back. And the bottom and top both have fuel. Most probably I will use it at Minmus due to less fuel needed to land and take off.
  7. I'm building a stock LEM and am having a couple of problems that I'm hoping someone can answer. I used a stack separator between the bottom and top part which does its job but seems I should have used a decoupler instead. Its lighter and a less violent separation for the bottom stage. Thing is its recessed into the bottom lander can and now I cant seem to get at it to select it to change it from a separator to a decoupler. I think the bottom lander can is the root part? The whole root part think confuses me somewhat. Also how do I save the entire LEM as a subassembly so I can build a rocket and then load the LEM? Attaching the LEM inline of a rocket is it best to use docking ports or decouplers? Anyways I hope someone can help out thanks.
  8. How will this mod install to a career save that's unlocked up to the last tier of the tech tree? Dose it break anything? I haven't used mods except Kerbal Alarmclock and RCS build aid. Trying to do an Apollo style with LEM lander and trying to use stock for faring's but not being too successful at it. Thanks
  9. Thanks for all the helpful info. Yes I will only be sending unmanned probes to the first planets I plan to visit. I can do Mun/Minmus missions. I haven't used any mods cuz I wanted to learn the game first, but I see that's theirs a lot of info the game dosent tell you that is important. Like the DeltaV and TWR stuff. Plus I was afraid of Mods breaking the game or causing problems that are mod related, and without playing the game stock I wouldn't know for sure if it is mod or game related. I am constantly reading the forums and viewing all the youTube vids to get more info. So thanks again.
  10. I wasn't aware MJ is parts on the tech tree. Can you install it mid career or do you have to install and start a new career? I'm at the last line in tech so Ive almost unlocked everything. Thanks for the info. Seems alot of people use it so I might as well. Moho seems to be the first encounter according to KAC in another 53 or so days. That might be the first planet I send a probe to then. Thanks
  11. Sounds like trying to bring the probe back to Kerbin would be wasted effort then. I'll just shoot it of to deep space. thanks
  12. I too havent gone to Duna yet. I dont get when the planets are in the right phase. I'm at day 84 and every calender/calc which tells you when to launch is sooooo many days in the future it seems like it will take forever to just get to the launch window. Maybe I'm playing to linear just doing other flights while I have a flight going to Minmus/Mun. I do have KAC but dont have MJ or KER. I guess I should install them so I know about the deltaV which Ive been just guessing at. Can one turn off MJ and use it just for the deltaV info?
  13. Im thinking of using the spaceplane to pick it up and return it, but the probe doesn't have RCS or a docking port to attach it inside the cargo bay. Not sure if a lose cargo is good for landing. The other day I discovered the landing legs on my Minmus base lander when deployed blocked all thrust from my radial mounted engines so I had to land without the legs. Still little things you end up missing in ship designs that come back to bite ya.
  14. Well guess what. I just checked and YES its upside down. I guess I screwed it up building it in the cargo bay of the MK2 spaceplane. Thanks and I guess they can delete this thread then.
  15. I have an ION probe in orbit around Kerbin but anytime I plan a maneuver node it seems backwards. If I want to burn prograde it burns retrograde. Its the opposite for every other node also. I did a node to match inclination of Minmus and lining up on the maneuver node it starts ADDING velocity instead of subtracting it. Whats going on??? How does one use them if there're backwards? Thanks
  16. Thanks so much for this clear concise simple method for landing. I was able to land a moon base on the first try. I usually try to land by the seat of my pants and burn alot of fuel in the process. So thanks for the tutorial.
  17. Easy? Maybe in sandbox with all the parts available, but trying to get into orbit with the basic jet engine which cuts out around 24k it sure aint. I figure I need to unlock the turbos after many unsuccessful tries. I have gotten to orbit once and actually landed at KSC on the first try in .25 but that was with the turbos. Its a much bigger balancing act.
  18. Bloody hell Did more testing thats what it was. I was looking at the resources panel which shows the jet fuel combined with rocket fuel. Too many bleary eye late night Kerbal sessions. Either way I still cant get into orbit. SSTOs sure are hard to figure out. Sorry bout the post and thanks.
  19. I will recheck again. Maybe its because the jet fuel is added to the total amount bar in the upper right menu so it reads as having leftover LF when the oxidizer runs out so I think its not running out at the same time? Thanks for the help
  20. The build was using mk2 parts. I used the round jet fuel tanks for the two basic jet engines which is all I have unlocked at the moment. They didn't have fuel lines to the mk2 LFO parts so the rocket engine wasnt using any of the jet fuel. I used the mk2 LF+O part and the part that narrows at the back to attach the rocket to which also has LF+O in it. I'll have to post a pic a bit later. I did play around with adding fuel tanks of just oxidizer but still run out just before or at 70k.
  21. Trying to build an SSTO and my oxidizer keeps running out faster than the liquid fuel so I never can get into orbit. Shouldnt they run out at the same time? I switched over to rocket lv-45 around 20k from 2 basic jet engines. I did a forum search and found someone with a similar problem and people seemed to think the fuel/oxidizer should run out at the same time and it was a bug or corrupted file? But there was no fix listed in the post. And its only showing up in SPH builds not in rockets built in VAB. Any ides? also whats the point of closing the air intakes when switching over to rocket mode from jet power? Drag? thanks
  22. Not sure if people know but you can accept contracts for testing parts that you haven't unlocked in the tech tree in career mode and the part will show up in the VAB/SPH for testing as experimental. Just did 2 tests at 206 science and over 800k each. Really rolling in the cash now. I haven't even landed on the Mun yet. So it really pays to keep an eye out for those contracts. -Cheers
  23. OK got it working. Rechecked the paths files etc and did a recopy and paste. Will check more tomorrow but sounds great. Thanks to all who put so much time and effort into it. It adds SO much to the space feel. Thanks
