Fuel Transfer Question
OscarJade replied to OscarJade's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Good to know! Will try to post screen shots when I get home tonight. Really want to solve this fuel transfer mystery. - - - Updated - - - Well, took a screenshot...but also made sure that crossfeed was enabled on the Attach-a-tron...and got a message in yellow across the screen: "This docking port does not permit fuel transfer." So the 637 gallons of fuel in Munar orbit is going to be wasted. But lesson learned. Thanks all. Cheers. - - - Updated - - - Well, here it is anyway. On the right is the space station 'Independent' in Munar orbit. On the right is CTV (crew transfer vehicle) - 2, used for shuttling crew. My hope was to descend to the Mun and retrieve six Kerbonauts from my Mun base... EDIT: Will not paste from Steam url. Oh well. -

As a side question: on the fuel transfer windows that pop up (or any ship part window that pops up when right-clicked), you can choose between a green triangle/arrow or what looks like a tiny red clock when you click on it. What is this function? Or what choice is being asked? -
Fuel Transfer Question
OscarJade replied to OscarJade's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I think so as well, but my tank with the surplus fuel has a Rockomax decoupler currently mated to the other brand docking port, so was just grasping at straws until I can get back to the game tonight and check things such as whether I'm in time warp, or whether the engine for the surplus tank is shut down. I guess it could be a bug of some kind. -
Fuel Transfer Question
OscarJade replied to OscarJade's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Just had a thought: I *might* have the other kind of docking port on the space station side, between the Rockomax decoupler and the tank with the spare fuel. Wondering if the different brand docking port is an issue? Also need to check that crossfeed is enabled on that one... -
Fuel Transfer Question

Good call on the time warp; don't think I am but naturally not 100% sure. Will check that too...in 8 hours. Grr. EDIT: Embarrassed to admit I don't know to do & share a screenshot... - - - Updated - - - Standard clamp-o-tron docking ports; 3-man command pod on lander side attached to 1 hitchhiker module & then the tank I want to transfer to. On station side: 1-seat lander can, hitchhiker module, mobile processing lab and other fuel tank in question at far end. -
Fuel Transfer Question
OscarJade replied to OscarJade's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
My R & D is maxed out in the research tree. It's standard rocket fuel between two identical Rockomax tanks. I've got a simple station in Munar orbit with 600+ gallons of spare fuel, and want to transfer it to a lander for descent & return. The only possibility is that I shut down the engine on station to prevent accidental activation (station has been in orbit for 169 game days and nearly a month in real-time, so I can't remember, LOL, and I'm at work away from the game, so I won't be able to check for a few hours). That's the only possible issue as far as I know. Would that prevent transfer? Seems it would be the safest time to do it. -
Is there a trick to transferring fuel between docked spacecraft? I've right-clicked and Alt-right-clicked the tanks I want to exchange fuel between, and instead of there being buttons saying 'in' or 'out' as transfer options (as older tutorials on YouTube show) I just have the words 'in' or 'out' there, and clicking on them does nothing. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance

Satellite contracts with MechJeb
OscarJade replied to OscarJade's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Hallelujah. Completed one; about to complete another with the same satellite. Was obsessed with numbers instead of just eyeballing it :/ That said, MechJeb is great for maneuver execution (precision). I'm glad to barnstorm landings and docking by the seat of my pants, but MJ can have burn duration/execution. Sorry for above frustration! -
Satellite contracts with MechJeb
OscarJade replied to OscarJade's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Wow, unfortunately still just feel stupid. Guess I'll try to see if YouTube has anything I can actually watch. Guess I just don't comprehend. Thanks anyway, all I'm glad it's easy for so many. -
Satellite contracts with MechJeb
OscarJade replied to OscarJade's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Thanks so much, everyone! I can't wait to get home tonight to give it a try Still wrestling with the LAN thing and holding the takeoff vector to follow the inclination...I think I can plug it into MechJeb's guided ascent? Definitely didn't have any luck with the autopilot on launch...another question is plugging the desired LAN into MJ - there are three fields to fill and four digits in the number (although the last two are separated by a decimal point). At any rate, I'm gratified by and thankful for the knowledge and generosity of this community. Will talk soon, I'm sure. Thanks again, and cheers! -
All right, I guess I surrender. Having an impossible time trying to get satellites into the orbit required. I couldn't do it without MechJeb, and I can't do it with MechJeb. Do I need to circularize first, then do apoapsis, then periapsis, then inclination and finally longitude of ascending node?? I'm not even sure how to plug in the numbers for the latter. Invariably I end up with an orbit that approximates what is called for, but is off in some way. Trying to execute my own radial, normal- or anti-normal burns seems to accomplish nothing. I guess I'm too slow for MechJeb even? The MechJeb autopilot, when used with ascent guidance, seems to take me into random encounters with the Mun etc if I call for the altitude of orbit asked for (18,692,804 meters, or about 18,692 k(?)). I'm open to pointers or suggestions; want to play the game properly but tempted to use the 'debug' key to cheat-complete all the satellite contracts I've foolishly take on. Suggestions are most welcome

Well...I'm still pretty much a rookie. I've landed on the Mun once so far (no autopilot, of course), and it was white-knuckle all the way, but very satisfying to achieve. Tonight or tomorrow I hope to pull off orbital rendezvous for the 1st AND 2nd times in the same flight - one to rescue a Kerbal on EVA, and the other to dock with another capsule that's been in LKO for 16 game days

I *do* have a folder for MechJeb2, with icons, parts & plug ins. And I have MechJeb parts showing as available in the VAB, but haven't tried to use them yet. Guess I will - thanks! I don't care about the error message as long as it works, LOL. The thought of trying to land a spaceplane on a runway manually with my keyboard is pretty intimidating...
-
I am getting an error message that MechJeb 2 isn't loaded correctly, although all I did was put the file in the gamedata folder and unzip (extract) its contents. I do have Kerbal Engineer loaded also; is this the issue? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated for this non-techie type. Thanks!
-
I have downloaded the .90-compatible MechJeb2, but KSP tells me something to the effect that the files aren't in proper order, so MechJeb won't work properly. I simply extracted the zipped file and moved it into KSP gamedata; have I done something wrong? Full disclosure: I do already have Kerbal Engineer installed - is there a compatibility issue I'm not aware of?
-
Thanks! I guess my fundamental #2 question is: how do I get to the KSP game data file?
-
1. Munar orbit problem: Even when using a maneuver node (and doing the indicated burn length), I arrive at the encounter point before the Mun does...and when the Mun's gravity does finally grab me, it's on the far side and pulls me into a clockwise path that will fly me directly into the Mun rather than around it. Will burning early fix this or make it worse? 2. How do I install a mod one I've downloaded it? 3. I purchased Kerbalizer, but when I click 'use app', I'm directed to a graphics download site (which I have downloaded) instead of the app itself. Help? Thanks!

Hello there! I've been playing KSP for about three weeks (started just before .90 was released), and I must say that in my opinion this is the coolest game since computers were invented. I'm fumbling my way through career mode, trying to learn the finer points of Munar orbit insertion and orbital rendezvous...I've heard that Kerbal Engineer is a big help. The available versions I see say "Compatible with .25" - will they work with the beta version? Thanks in advance, and it's great to be here!
