  1. For every 1000 science now you've cleared the tree, reward yourself with a new mod, like the mk 4 spaceplane stuff?
  2. Swap the blunt nosecone on the Mk2 short adaptors for a Type B tail connector (the slanted one) to blend the radial MK2 parts into the main hull? Looks pretty good either way though.
  3. My second ever working spaceplane - I wanted something that could take 20 Kerbals up at a time. Lots of failure later, I end up with this. It works, now to tidy it up. Makes a 100km orbit easily (point the nose at 25 degrees off the runway, and let her rip), with enough Dv left to rendezvous with my station at 150km, dock, deorbit and land at KSC with a little to spare. Powered by 8 Rapiers and lots of derring-do!
  4. My Minmus mining / research base. Assembled on site using 2 crawlers and many, many launches. Got reasonably good at landing within 300m of the base. Beauty shot with my crew transfer "Space Bus Mk2" in the background
  5. Got my first successful crew transfer SSTO operable today after a lot of fiddling about - I present the Hamilton Class SSTO (crew transfer variant). Enough fuel to get into a stable 75x75 orbit, rendezvous with my station at 150k, deorbit and land at KSC - with some spare. Small satellite variant next.
  6. Cheers folks! That looks good Rune, I really like the use of shielded ports, may poach that :-) I'm going to switch back to regular docks for the next iteration, and combine some functions - i.e make the Hab module a 3 way connector and the science module a 4 way, which only means an inline is needed, like yours above. Building that one was a great learning experience though.
  7. A few shots of my just completed test base. Fully modular, assembled on site using 2 rovers in stock career (tech tree still isnt fully open). Original inspiration from Temstars modular base designs. Part count - far too many - framerate is down to about 10fps :-) Lessons learned : Make it smaller, use less parts, make more allowances on clearance for mass, Minmus is forgiving of mistakes if youre careful, rovers suck for delicate work - plus a few others. Quite fun to put together, if a little painstaking. Next challenge - refine the design and build one on the Mun. Hope you enjoy! Phase 2 - interconnections & power test Phase 6 - finally manned& 2nd power module being slotted into place Phase 8 - Delivering the Hab modules Phase 8 - everything in place
  8. Thats great! +rep for you :-) I can just see all the kids going "What the hell is Blake's Seven?"
  9. Minmus Mining Co, currently under construction. Fully modular ground base, 8 flights so far!
  10. Simple Crew Transport Vehicle for hopping between Kerbin / Minmus / Mun, aka Space Bus.
  11. Nope - I figure that if theres life present it'll increase the mutation rate, and may one day result in an intelligent species.
  12. Hold a broom handle out at arm's length and try to turn on a lightswitch - thats basically what youre dealing with. All the control is at one end, and the tinest change at the control end brings about a large change at the far end - very difficult to exert any fine control over. I generally do as Slam suggests - make each large component either a self contained vessel, or at the very least equip it with RCS thrusters so my tug can take over that duty.
  13. Use it as an opportunity to build up some intra-system infrastructure. Stations around the mun, minmus & kerbin for research and fuel supply. Shuttlecraft to move personnel around between them, stuff like that. While the initial costs are high, longer term the costs broadly even out. I use mine to do science while unlocking the tech tree, and to move groups of tourists around in system. The downside is managing it all, it can get quite involved. I currently have a group of 8 tourists and 5 personnel just arrived back at Kerbin having completed a Min, Minmus, Solar tourist and experience run, and have another group of 12 tourists waiting to go up.
  14. Heres my first modular station in 1.0.2 - took 5 flights to get it in place as Im still not great with the new aero Flight 1 - Station Core (Research Module, monoporop, batteries & docking ports) & Orbital Tug Flight 2 - Command Pod, Hab One & Comms Array Flight 3 - Fuel Tank Storage (4 orange cans, slightly clipped to give a lower cross section & sent up empty) Flight 4 - Docking Hub & Docking Arms Flight 5 - Hab Two, Science Pack & Docking Adaptors Each flight also had a big Rockomax fuel tank with it which was temporarily stored off a spare docking port until it could supply the main tanks)
  15. Career mode here, just over 1/3 of the way into the tech tree at this point. After completely borking my launch and munar insertion for a remote fuel delivery (a full Rockomax X200 - 32 with the junior docking clamps), it was stranded in a 100 km munar orbit, with my station at 20km. Taking stock, I had no LFO left, but 240 Monoprop. "What could go wrong?" I thought to myself. So I dumped the main propulsion unit as it was deadweight, and planned my rendezvous. After a nerve wracking 30 minutes I managed to dock with the station, with a grand total of 0.2 Monoprop left. Jeb has nothing on the mad piloting skills of the Probodoboyne OKTO!
  16. I havent opened up the later ones yet (career player), but if theyre anything like the small landing gear, right click on it and select "unlock steering".
  17. Currently, mine are Transfer Windows and Aerobraking. I've just managed to get a successful spaceplane built though, typically just in time for the whole aero model to change!
  18. Hi guys Have to say - what an incredible game, and what a fantastic community. I've learned so much from just lurking and reading I thought it was about time to say "Thanks" and join in! Heres a pic of my testbed for a modular base system, loosely based on Temstar's tutorial - just one of many, many projects... Its a little haphazard as theres several iterations of Hab / connector in there, but the core of it is done. Pic includes a core module, 2 hab modules, lab, power, comms, multiple connector types, a crawler for moving stuff about, a big science rover and a big tanker rover
