  1. Why do you like the real solar system?

  2. ORCUS! Great! Also, that new Vesta is way better than I ever expected Vesta could be in KSP (In my old planet packs I couldn't get Vesta oblate because of how big it is, how did you do it?). - - - Updated - - - I just took a look at it, and IMO I preferred the old one. The new texture seems a little too white/red rather than orange/brown as the real pictures came out.
  3. I agree that Ceres should NOT be flatter. I've seen a lot of Dawn images, and the ingame Ceres is pretty close to the level of unevenness on Ceres.
  4. Saying it again, this pack is awesome. I finally got a chance to try a mission with it today. Realism Overhaul was having some issues (my biggest problems with it is the realistic ion engines, I don't have a year to wait for a burn, does anyone know how to fix this in the configs?) so I went without it to send a lander and orbiter to Ceres. I was about 5k dV short due to underestimating it, but I used the lander to fly really close to the surface and took a picture a little higher up above Ceres that I wanted to share:
  5. I'll try to figure out what the problem is when I get back to my computer as I'm currently traveling. Can you post specifics on what failed?
  6. Ceres and Vesta are planned for the future. I wanted to add Neptune's moons because 1) it is the only gas giant which has a number of moons small enough that I can add them all 2) It offers a new challenge and reason to go there and 3) these moons are so obscure that nobody would know what they are otherwise. I learned a lot making them, so others probably will sending missions to them.
  7. I finished the first release of an expansion pack for RSS! So far includes Charon, Styx, and all of Neptune's Outer moons as well as Proteus. Have the download link here because KerbalStuff isn't working http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/126795-1-0-4-Solar-System-Expanded-Real-Solar-System-Expansion-pack Does anyone know how to add Trojan asteroids?
  8. Solar System Expanded - Version 1.0 Expansion Pack for the addon Real Solar System You may have seen this mod in KSP 0.90. I completely redid everything to work with the new 1.0.x RSS, and added some new things, with a lot of the old objects coming later. I also gave it a real name (SSE). Essentially, this mod adds new real life moons, dwarf planets (coming soon), and asteroids (coming soon) to KSP through Real Solar System. I decided to make a thread for this release because some users were having installation issues with the last version and helping through Reddit or Youtube is more difficult than a thread that anyone can contribute to. LICENSE: CC-BY-NC-SA Uses RSS by NathanKell The Pack currently includes: Moons of Pluto: Charon Styx * Note - I am aware that Hydra, Nix, and Kerberos are missing. I felt that Styx served as an example of a small moon and I am waiting for the New Horizons flyby to add in the rest of them. All Outer Moons of Neptune Nereid Halimede Laomedeia Sao Psamanthe Neso Inner Moons of Neptune Proteus Expect many more bodies to be added in coming releases. Note that this pack will use more memory than standard RSS and will take longer to launch due to Color maps being .png instead of .dds. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS (ALSO PRINTED IN README!) 1. Install Real Solar System. 2. Copy the Gamedata folder from SSE and paste it over your KSP Gamedata folder. Merge when prompted. Replace config with the SSE config when prompted. 3. Launch KSP. If you have memory issues, try OpenGL mode or Linux 64-bit. DOWNLOAD LINK (inoperative until a license is shown) (KerbalStuff is currently broken for me and I can't upload files. Therefore I can't upload it there until I figure out how to fix that.) Credits: NathanKell for Real Solar System Space Engine for object textures Album of Everything New in Version 1.0 Some Examples of what you might see using SSE: Proteus, 2nd Largest moon of Neptune STYX, Pluto's smallest moon, with CHARON, Pluto's largest moon, in the background Video Tour of the new moons in 1.0 and information on the mod: STUFF FOR FUTURE VERSIONS: Ceres, Vesta, Pallas, Lutetia Jupiter and Neptune Trojan Asteroids ALL of Neptune's moons (Currently, all outer moons are in) Kuiper Belt Objects, Scattered Disc Objects All of Pluto's moons (After New Horizons Flyby) Sedna
  9. Does anyone have color and height maps for the Uranian major moons? I am trying to create my RSS expansion again and I wanted to add them in, however, the Space Engine textures are utterly broken (ingame ones are horribly blurry, and the exported ones are completely wrong).
  10. KSP was completely broken, mods or not. Space Center was glitched and the VAB was just a blue screen. It may have been an issue with GPU Drivers but I couldn't install them off of NVIDIA's site. But just using OpenGL works pretty well for me, a crash only sets me back about a minute if I quicksave a lot.
  11. My Linux install didn't work at all, but I decided to just try 8K textures with OpenGL on 32 bit Windows. And they work! Occasional crashes but the mod is beautiful. I made a first module of the Bigelow Lunar station concept and put it into orbit around the moon: http://imgur.com/a/B3nc8
  12. Setting up an Ubuntu dual boot with Windows so I can play 64 bit KSP and get the 8K textures with mods. Looking forward to it. One question, are 16K textures even possible in the context of this mod? How much memory would this use? Maybe for just one or two planets?
