  1. Coincident with the MAVEN launch I present to you a compilation of my 'A Mission a Day' (http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/55412-A-Mission-a-Day%21) series thus far. Enjoy twenty missions in three minutes!
  2. Symmetry mode counts as one modification. So you could add 1,2,3,4,6 or 8 of any given part and have it count as one modification. Boosters + Decouplers are two modifications, although as far as I'm concerned you can play fast and loose with those rules as long as something hilarious happens. Here's my attempt at JayCheetah's devilish VAB Booster/Lander. I lost count of the amount of modifications but in my humble opinion I came up with some hilarious workarounds. I'm still cracking up re-watching the video Enjoy it, uploading took the better part of the evening!
  3. Losing them is never the plan. If a launch goes awry and the capsule survives but is plummeting, I try to salvage the kerbals if there's any hope to do so. Stranded kerbals get a rescue mission if I can afford it, but money comes before test pilots >
  4. Day 14 marks an exciting day with a science mission to Jool! The paid-for module brought along on the request of a contractor doesn't fare so well however, putting our space program in dire straits! Today's episode is in three parts, because real life kept getting in the way!
  5. Killing the nosecone. Clever. I didn't do that and the craft... grew. I made a video of my exploits again which will be up later today
  6. It took me almost an hour to get that thing on top of the VAB!! Also I discovered if you put anything underneath the radial engines, their thrust goes to zero. Made for quite some confusion!!
  7. That is very similar! And some crazy designs in that topic as well, oh my god. Still, it's about half a year old, so I don't see any problems
  8. That's impressive! I'd honestly not expected you to do it with such few additional parts Great! Where can I pick up the .craft file for the next run? Oh and just to note, anyone here on the forums is very welcome and in fact invited to try and beat our designs, or come up with your own challenges!
  9. I was noticing this as well, this explains it! I wasn't too sure because my latest transmissions happened in a fairly stressful position
  10. Is that a tower on your launchpad or are you just happy to see me? Today I combined a manned suborbital launch with a probe to Vall. The suborbital mission failed while the probe was pretty succesfull. This in part because of the recently installed Ferram Aerospace mod combined with Deadly Reentry (no, the poor Kerbal didn't burn up, in fact he drowned, but that's another story). The mission was combined to save launch costs and to piggyback the exploration mission on a commercial (read: paying) mission from the Mission Controller plugin. When the probe got to Jool it decided to forego the aerobraking in fear of some Deadly Reentry and tried to slow down propulsively, which succeeded.. sort of. All in all, a pretty interesting day. To see these adventures and more check out my 'A Mission a Day' series (link in signature). The Jool/Vall/Drowned Kernie mission will be uploaded tomorrow Cheers!
  11. Mission 13 turns out to be not quite so unlucky as its number in sequence might imply
  12. Me and fellow Kerbonaut JayCheetah have devised a little game for one-another. Basically one makes a horribly crooked, impossible to fly or downright stupid craft, comes up with some rules and objectives. The other party (in this case, me) then has to pick up that design and modify it so as to accomplish those goals. More points, esteem, fame and bling are awarded the lower and subtle the amount of modifications are. JayCheetah came up with the first botch-rocket by the name of Big Punt. Get the .craft here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jcyrkmnaho4mocp/Big%20Punt%20Mk1.craft The objective is to get the craft in an equatorial orbit and the rules are as follows: -No part can be removed -All alterations (made by you!) are also final, best think twice before trying something! -No more than two alterations per launch attempt -Symmetry mode can be used, parts added in such a way count as one alteration -Staging can be rearranged, which counts as a modification I managed to get his craft going with three rounds of modifications, see them (and the crazy craft!) in action here Cheers, Lorenzo
  13. Back after a week's hiatus! Installed some new Mods and immediately feeling the consequences. Oh dear.
  14. In a forum campaign I did ages ago I had two flavours of 'missions'. One were straight up missions, achieve objective and get paid. The general challenge being to build a rocket that's (significantly) cheaper than the posted reward. The second flavour was 'contracts', these took many forms but the crux was that you didn't pay for the rocket and the reward was relatively small (after all, no rocket costs). The idea was that you were contracting out your expertise, not facilities and rocket building. I still like that setup. It allows for the objective based and cash restrained gameplay many like, while also incorporating design freedom in the form of contracts (no rocket costs!) whilst simultaneously allowing a player to earn money whilst broke.
  15. I reckon I'm going to have to ask the community (external contractors!) for missions
  16. I'm recording more missions today and oh my god it's disaster after disaster. My spaceprogram is going bankrupt!
  17. Thanks for the nice comments. I wasn't planning on making this a series, but I just might!
  18. I made this video for a friend, detailing exactly how to get started and explaining the VAB, Navball and staging setup. If you've ever gotten anything anywhere, you'll find this boring. You have been warned!
  19. On day eleven we were happy no one was watching
  20. On day 10 we gather some Graviolistic science closer to home!
  21. A probe to Jool/Vall takes an unexpected turn..
  22. Today Bill takes over from Jeb and shows us how it is done
